Mitama blinks in soft surprise. Well. That was...certainly a calmer reaction than she expected. Having been separated for some time after the war's end, she thought that reunions might have more novelty to them. It seemed that Asugi was as calm as he ever was, taking this moment as just another day.
She deflates a little...but it is better to have a friend at all than not, so her change in demeanor does not last for long.
"Not sneaking, he says / and yet I arrived here first / better ninja, who?" She laughs at her little tease as she lets herself settle into a more relaxed posture.
"Ah, not to worry. The Church may fail in many ways, but they certainly go above and beyond when it comes to protecting their own toys." The Goddess Tower was a bit more than just a toy, but the remark stood. She pulls the broken device out from behind her back and holds it up for him to see.
"I was curious at their latest little indulgence and thought I would investigate to see if I could figure out the magics that made it function. Unfortunately, it appears that I was a bit...overzealous in my efforts." This time, her laugh comes more sheepishly. "It broke."
Asugi gives his own short little laugh at her teasing, watching as she relaxes. It was nice to see Mitama. Asugi would never admit it out loud but having familiar faces around was always nice even when he wasn't really supposed to get terribly attached to anything.
"Yeah, yeah. You've one-upped me in the ninja game. I'll start asking for lessons from you the next time we have some free time," Asugi jokes before continuing. "I probably wouldn't have broken that device but who knows."
Asugi steps forward to take a look at it in Mitama's hands. Well, he didn't want either one of them to get in trouble.
"So... Are we ditching this thing and pretending we never saw it?"

Her instinct to trust the young man turned out to be correct. Now she had someone on her side against the accusations. Good, because Hinoka would have honestly thrown the accusations back in her accusers faces. She closed her eyes and breathed in, an action she had learned to lean on after she became Queen. An action to calm herself. Her hand tightened into a fist before she breathed out, releasing the anger. Not really, but it was an attempt.
She could see the desire for the finger pointing to continue written all over the faces of the staff of this manor. A fear about them, needing a resolution. But the thought of this turning into a political mess with another nation stayed more wild claims. If Hinoka could be allowed a moment of wild speculation, she thought that perhaps the killer was amongst the servants.
Considering how quickly she had been accused after all.
"We are... just trying to show caution....!" one of the maids said. "Lady Hinoka was the last one seen entering the kitchen...! At least, that was the claim!"
An eyewitness...? A faint frown formed on Hinoka's face. She hadn't been anywhere near the kitchen until just earlier. Clasping her hands together tightly, and with a practice tone, she offered a diplomatic solution to the problem.
"Why don't we all split up and search for the real culprit," she offered. Asking questions to clarify supposed witness shouldn't be in front of everyone else. "If the soldiers are on their way, then we have until they arrive. Plenty of time to gather evidence."
And clear her name. She nodded to the young man who had helped her, in thanks and a quiet indication that they should talk once they were able to get away from the crowd. Hopefully once everyone looked around.
Asugi waited for the others to start to clear out to gather their evidence to hover nearby Hinoka. His hand rested on his hip as he stood there, thinking about the various possibilities. He headed over quietly to just outside of the kitchen. He gave a single glance over to Hinoka as he did, an invitation for her to follow him.
Once alone, Asugi stopped to let himself think. Obviously, the witness had to be questioned. They could examine the body too but it wasn't likely that anything would be left behind. He would wait for Hinoka to start offering his thoughts, if she followed at all.

The crack is louder than anything else that can be heard within the Goddess Tower. Louder than the wind leaking in through the windows and certainly louder than the sound of her breath that freezes in horror as Mitama realizes what has happened.
The ridiculous devices that the monastery was oh so proud of, as it turns out, were also quite fragile. This was evidenced by the now broken piece that Mitama was holding in her hands.
That…was not good. Mitama held no strong feelings for the church. Honestly, she stayed because she was comfortable, and she enjoyed the company more than anything. The church itself was just an unpleasant thing to deal with. But no matter how unpleasant their demands could be, it still served her nothing to be rude to her hosts. Breaking their fancy new toys which they were so certain would be the solution to their problems was not being polite and a good guest.
What to do, then? Obviously she was not going to confess. That was ridiculous. Why should she be punished because they did not protect their machines properly? She absently turns the piece she holds over and over in her palm as she tries to determine what to do.
As she ponders such a mystery, the door to the room creaks open. Mitama jumps at the sound and quickly hides the piece in her hand by folding her hands together neatly behind her back. She turns to the door with a polite smile. "H-hello! Is there something you…"
Wait a moment, she know that face. Mitama's eyes widen in surprise as she stares at the person behind the door. "Asugi?"
@saizovi
Mitama was the last person that Asugi had expected to see in the Goddess Tower. He had been wanting to explore around and see if he could sneak past the surveillance devices that others had been boasting about but it seemed Mitama beat him to it. So he straightens up and fully steps inside, closing the door behind him so no one would follow.
"Hey Star. What're you doing in here? You're not really the sneaking around type. Where's the monitoring thingy in here?" Asugi lifts his head to look about the hall they were in but so far he sees nothing. He doesn't suspect her of having broken it, why would he?
"Seems lazy to not put one in here after everyone kept talking them up..."
It seems he's more interested in looking around than he is in bothering her.
"I felt like checking this place out. It's religiously important yeah but you can't blame a guy for being curious."

You’re sent to House Burgundy as part of a security unit. The viscount is extremely paranoid that he’s going to be the next victim and has been disrupting all other investigations and meetings to demand protection. This is mostly to keep him quiet. After two days, the man is found dead in his kitchen with a knife in his chest, and now YOU’RE being accused of doing it. [Grants Sword +1] starter for @saizovi
This was ridiculous. Volunteering to help out with security for a man she didn't know but thought she could protect anyway, and now she was being accused of his murder. First of all, the absolute failure to protect the viscount stung deeply. But to be accused of the one to kill him?! Anger flushed through Hinoka as she stood straight, faced with the accusation thrown at her.
"I beg your pardon," she snapped, eyes narrowing. How she longed to grip her lance, but she had forgone bringing it this time in favour of a sword that was easier to carry around. Even that had been taken from her. "I am the Queen of Hoshido, I've only been in Fodlán for a few weeks! I didn't even know the man, saved for meeting him as part of his security!"
Her anger was boiling hot, she was barely keeping it contained. The insult of it all burned. Surely someone else would speak up for her...! She looked at everyone else and for some reason, her gaze was drawn to the young man who looked like Saizo.
"Anyone here could point out that this is ridiculous!" she added, her gaze becoming a little pleading. Don't let her get accused of murder...! Don't let her anger explode and make the situation worse.
The shouting is more than enough to make Asugi take action. He was quick to step forward, his hand coming up between Hinoka and her accusers. He wasn't going to question anything here just yet. Especially not with Hinoka referring to herself as the Queen of Hoshido. What had happened to her brother? Asugi doesn't ask questions. It wasn't the time for that.
"Hey, hey now. There's no way the queen would do something like that. You hired us to take care of the viscount. Let's use our brains a second," Asugi started. His hands stayed up as if to defend Hinoka. It wasn't as if she needed it but if she was really the queen then it was Asugi's duty to her and Hoshido itself to keep her safe. "She's right. It is ridiculous. Not to mention a disaster politically. You arrest her and then what? She turns out to be innocent and there's a political mess on your hands." Asugi really hoped this worked.
"Isn't there an investigation process here? Jeez. The poor man's body isn't even cold yet. Maybe we should focus on finding the real culprit who's getting away as we speak."

@hoshidosflame
Sitting in a jail cell wasn't exactly the ideal way for Asugi to start off his education. It had barely been two days and he was already being assumed a killer. The viscount had been annoying but Asugi didn't want the man to die. He had snuck away from the rest of the security team in the hopes of trying to find out any more information on the murders and if there were any real indicators that the viscount would be next. When he entered the kitchen, he found the crime scene and saw someone fleeing out the backdoor. He had chased after them, of course he had. Though that just made Asugi look even more suspicious when the guards finally caught him. It was just his luck to have found the man murdered and immediately be blamed for it.
Asugi rubs his fingers against his forehead, thinking about every little detail. What was he going to do? Who would even bother to vouch for him?
The young man's shoulders slump as he thinks about it in the cell. If more murders occurred then they would have to let him go, wouldn't they? His head was spinning with the stress of trying to figure it all out.
"At least Dad isn't here..."
