In a flash of eerie green, the dark, skeletal wraith of the Baron appeared, hovering above the smouldering remains. Its eyes glowed ominously as it bellowed: “Out of my home, thieves!” as it charged toward the witchers.

The Drifter and the Swan was full of life that evening. Apparently, there was a travelling bard in town, and most of the little town of Dowbeck had gathered in the outdoor seating area to listen to him play the lute and sing ballads.

Sasha had always been a bit of a loner, but Janek’s endless chattering and occasional bouts of singing were, surprisingly, a welcome break from the monotony of travel instead of an annoyance. Though, they could’ve done without the victorious crowing from Janek whenever he got them to laugh at a particularly stupid joke.

There was a brazier sitting in the middle of the room. They lit it with a snap of their fingers. They should make as much light as possible, to make it more difficult to see in the shadows. As the brazier burst into light, a dark figure with wild red hair stepped into view beside a nearby pillar. She grinned, slow and satisfied.
