Murphy, a rescued bald eagle who is known for fiercely protecting a rock he considers his egg, will be getting the opportunity to become a father to an orphaned chick ❤️
Previously Murphy was the eagle known for:

It’s time for the head does of the herds to chase off the yearling bucks and the yearling who lives in our yard is BAFFLED
Also here are two particularly colorful mushrooms that the internet said I could eat but we all know not to eat things based solely on the internet
Taro and Bolivian begonia thriving on kitchen gray water
Solomon’s seal, fern assortment, emergency caffeine bush
Today’s garden mission: use this miraculous day where my new, less-good migraine medication is working to cut back Stupid Privet from around random things in the woods that I do like, including:
three magnolias that may bloom at some point
forsythia, which is not native but is nice to look at
cedars, which I feel protective of, because they have a lot of diseases here
an interesting rock
I’m also putting chicken wire fences around my plants from last year, including the miraculously-not-dead pawpaws, the miraculously-not-dead elderberry (one of two, the other I think has been murdered by maple root), and the miraculously-not-dead-but-definitely-not-blooming-this-year blueberries that were eaten down to nubs by last year’s twin fawns.
Oh, and I chopped all the berries off some heavenly bamboo, since heavenly bamboo is randomly toxic to some birds at some points and birds are doing their best right now to not die of things.
Ferns, alumroot (first sighting), daffodils wrapping up, greens sets I started doing better than I should expect, pea plant starting to grab, strawberries in the most aggressive enclosure to date
Pea sprout!
Week of 11/1 planted oats and winter wheat two weeks late
Some frost damage on the Malabar spinach; sweet potato greens continue well. No frost damage on the tomatoes and peppers between the buildings, but the sun has shifted so they’re in very full shade. Leaves have fallen off the pawpaws.
Sweet potato harvest 2021! Slips are not worth it! All but two of these are from one sweet potato that sprouted!
Trying to actually cure them this year as in previous years I’ve eaten them uncured and been confused
Turned my back on the cucumber vine for 3 days
I just feel like if concerted subcultural human effort can endanger wild ginseng, goldenseal, and white sage, surely we could use our group ecological pressure for good on North American microstegium
A shady divot by a highway :)
I am GOING to get my hand stung eventually trying to identify bees I can tell you that for free
