❝ Whoa! ❞ Once the balloon begins taking flight, Vanth rushes to join Sal at the edge of the basket, the loose pieces of hair framing his face lifted by the gust of air like wisps of colored wind. The people below them gradually shrink the higher they climb, and soon Vanth likens them to ants, so small and numerous over the earth below. ❝ Haha, this is crazy! I feel giant. ❞ Sal's question grabs Vanth's interest. He turns, grinning wildly against the backdrop of sky, as his answer comes to him easily. ❝ I'm here just because! ❞ In other words, it was a whim decision with no deep thought behind it. ❝ I hate the ocean, and I've spent enough time on the ground, so I thought the sky was the next best thing to conquer. ❞
"This is...amazing.." Sal looked down with Vanth, in awe of the sight. So, this is what most birds got to see everyday, huh? He looked back over at the other, smiling from behind his prosthetic. His hair wasn't as wispy, but it was certainly floating with the wind.
"I kind of wish I had wings now." He stands back from the edge, but looks towards the horizon.
"Heh, yeah...I feel like, in this place...if you don't find something new to do every once in awhile, you can go kind of crazy."
She brushes the side of his face, thumb grazing gently against the corner of his lips. She listens, hanging on to his every word.
He didn't remember anything from his last time here. It's as if time were reverting. Like, time reverted back for him from before his last visit. While she remembered the worn-down look of Sal, the haunted look in those eyes, the way he carried himself back then...
There was no memory with Sal right now. She inhales a shaky breath and then shakes her head.
"Okay....Okay," She whispers and brings both her hands around him for another hug. "It's okay. You don't have to remember anything else." It was fine. He was here the way he had been before. She was okay with that. Sal was Sal no matter which version.
"Did you eat? Are you...Are you hungry?" She grabs his hand after releasing her hold on him and pulls him in further into the house.
Sal wasn't hungry, in fact his stomach felt like it had literal stones in it. Heavy and uncomfortable. What was this weight he was carrying?
He shook his head, and then he took off his prosthetic. That wasn't something he did willy-nilly, not even with the right people around. He just felt kind of muggy and hot. He hoped feeling the air on his face would give him some relief.
"No...I'm okay. I'll be okay. I'm just kind of confused." If anything, Ismael looked more freaked out than he did. "I feel like I should be the one comforting you."
The way she holds him. She's so afraid he'll just disappear again. She knows that isn't how it works. They had time, but still. She wants to beg him to stay. To never disappear again, but she knows---they BOTH know that something like that was impossible. He didn't get a say in whether to stay or not. She didn't have the power to keep him here either. As much as she'd want that kind of power, it wasn't hers to have.
"Sal..." She sniffles, finally looking up at him with tearful eyes. This time, she's looking for something. Last time he was back, he had been a little different. Sadder. Something had happened. Something awful. They hadn't had the chance to talk about it, really.
"What do you remember last?"
Sal placed his hands on her shoulders, looking at her in the face. It was difficult for him to recall much when seeing her so upset. So he closed his eyes and lowered his head slightly. "I....I'm not sure..."
"I wish I had a better answer for you, but ...I can't remember anything. I just know.....I know you, I know me...I know this house...but..." Any specifics weren't coming to mind.
More Sals!!!!!
I wanted to make another piece that doesn't edit the original drawing a lot, like the one I posted for the game anniversary last year :D
I had a lot of fun drawing the silly goobers around the edges, my favs are the ones with sphere hands
SALLY FACE
old art but still wanted to post it
sally face is just scooby-doo for emotionally unstable teens
Summer sucks. Vanth concluded this last year, after being faced with an overwhelming majority of water-related activities. Although there's been progress on that front thanks to Sebastian's kindness and patience, Vanth's no more willing to take a dip or get splashed while out on his own than he was before. The natural course of action is to set one's sights dryer—maybe even higher, and... Yeah, a hot air balloon sounds about like what he's looking for, actually! The line for single admission is way too long, so Vanth opts for the trip for two. Maybe if he's lucky, it'll be someone with a bad attitude, and they'll fight 5,000 feet in the air. Or, if they're unlucky and the rope snaps, it'll be someone funny that won't mind a few premortem jokes. Realistically, the chances are it'll be some nobody that Vanth won't even remember. Man, isn't anything exciting anymore? But when the basket rocks and he turns around, he's pleasantly surprised to find himself proven wrong—at least at first blush. The guy climbing aboard looks cool, and his vibes are so chill! Vanth has to strike up a chat, stat. ❝ My balloon buddy, Sal! ❞ Vanth greets, wearing a grin stretching ear to ear. ❝ I'm Vanth. ❞
❝ Sick style you got, by the way! ❞
"Heh. My balloon buddy, Vanth." Sal returns the cute quip just as easily. He doesn't mind being around people that're talkative or high energy. He's a good listener that way. Certainly not looking for a fight either; even if that would be exciting. It just wasn't Sal's way.
"Oh, thanks, you too." Just then, the balloon began to slowly rise into the air. Sal took the opportunity to grab the edges of the basket and look down as it started. His long blue hair fluttering side to side as the wind picked up.
"I thought this would be a good idea. Seeing as how I'll never be able to actually fly myself. What about you?"
Warm. Safe. And just how she remembers him to smell. Sal was here. This was no dream. She inhales and exhales slowly, buries her face into his chest, and tightens her hold on the man. "Sal...." For now, it's all she's able to say. Just his name and the emotions that follow with it.
He really IS here.
"I---I forgot so many faces..." She whispers, "so....many faces....but---but not your's. I---I missed you so fucking much, Sal."
Despite his mind fog and slight confusion, Sal now was focusing on giving Ismael whatever comfort that he could.
"It's alright, I'm here now." He gently rubbed her back with his hands; small circles. This had happened before. He'd disappeared before.
They couldn't control it. He couldn't; and that was one of the most terrifying things about this world.
@thetoyboxcharacter - MAZE BY PIXIE LIGHT
An elaborate garden maze illuminated by magic lights provided by the pixies of the village. This event only runs at night and can only be experienced in pairs, but the prize for success is a doozy: a crystal flower that is traditionally exchanged between pixies, meant to promise themselves to one another. Receiving this flower as a couple is a promise to remain at one another’s sides through thick and thin.
---
Sal hadn't realized that this activity was for a couple, or best friends -- until it was too late. However, he didn't think that they really needed to back out now either. "I got an idea." He glanced over at the stranger.
"We get through the maze ...as a pair, but...as ...platonic acquaintances, and then we play rock paper scissors for whoever gets the flower. No hard feelings." The pixie light just barely lit up his prosthetic, casting shadows in an unflattering way.
PUNK ISNT DEAD
@blightsbite - HOT-IN-THE-AIR BALLOON RIDES
The hot air balloons seemed to be one of the more popular activities on the Isle of Umber. So much so that people were having to wait and take their turns to get a ride. Sal could've waited longer, and gone solo, but somehow he felt like doing it by himself wouldn't have been as fun.
An joy shared is happiness doubled. That's what he thought.
"Hey." He casually greeted, stepping into the basket. "I'm Sal."
one cant tell if his eyes are lightened up with the way chris looks at the scene with emotionless expression, but the excitement is there. He's already making something before the stranger next to him spoke. Determined and half listening to what the other around him was say.
When he stops and stares at Sal, Christopher merely tilt his head to the side. "Like... this???" He asked, what he made looked much like a blob. A blob of nothing but clay. How does a person make something like this is a mystery, it is if Chris tried to build something and the simulator just gave up on it.
"I was trying to make a robot, does a robot look like this??" HE asked, clearly his own imagination was different from others or he just doesn't know what a robot looks like. "I think robots are... cool."
Sal stared at the blob for a moment, but then he walked over and knelt down next to it. That defintely didn't look like a robot, but at least he'd made...something?
"Heh, yeah, robots are cool."
He gently reached over and touched the blob with a finger; and the blob suddenly transformed into a small robot with a square body.
"Oh, I didn't even...mean for ..."
He glanced back over at Christopher. "If you were going for "robot" they look a bit more like this."
Kris snorts, holding their own suspicious electronic device - a game controller that's probably expensive if one were to buy it in a proper store - and tossing it idly from one hand to the other. They eye the guy with the mask for a while through their mess of hair, curious about what he was doing.
The guy they've stumbled across for this little adventure seems chill. Better than some of the noisier people anyway, and the Soul seems eager to get them to interact with new people so it's going to happen regardless. The remote snaps easily, and Kris has a vision of themselves in the future, sick from eating way too much sugar.
At least this guy is probably going to... oh, he's not eating it. Makes sense... mask and all that. Have to stay mysterious.
They can respect the grind.
Looks like Kris is alone in stomach pain central later.
C'est la vie or whatever. They better pace themselves otherwise they're not going to be able to make as much of a mess as they'd like.
"I didn't read the rules." Kris says flatly, mirroring the masked person's action. Theirs turns out to be an actual game controller, which is tossed blandly onto the shelf. Second try with a different controller gives them better results - dark chocolate with a red jelly. They take a bite of it unceremoniously.
"Don't like caramel?" They gesture with their candy to the one that the other broke.
"I've done this a few times before, so I have the rules memorized. Heh." Did that make him a nerd?
Sal was here simply for the thrill of earning fake points and getting that sweet sweet investigative satisfaction of figuring shit out. If he was alone he would've been eating some of the candy, but he wasn't so he didn't.
"I'm mostly in it for the thrill, but I also don't usually.. eat, unless I'm alone." That made him sound kind of suspicious, so he opted to explain it a bit better. "I mean--" He gently pointed to his face. "I'd rather not worry about my prosthetic falling off if I can help it."
Glancing over, he saw a pillow that seemed a bit too glossy. "Oh, this is cake." He tried to grab it, but it... "Never mind, I'm wrong."
@kleinstar - THE HAUNTING OF SPIRAL HOUSE
"Remember, it's all fake." Sal had his arms crossed as he walked through the artificially spooky halls. There was defintely an actor dressed as a vampire trying to stalk the both of them though.
Sal didn't want to say something rude and offend the actors, but he defintely wasn't feeling this one. Maybe he'd just been through too much to get a thrill out of this. ...It was defintely cute though.
"I mean....the decor is really well placed, and the costumes are pretty realistic, just...if you get scared, bring yourself back to reality."
