I keep seeing posts from people who claim they will be blocking anyone who posts any content from the new Harry Potter show that begins airing in December.

So I wanted to say you’re all being ridiculous. You consume media all the time by actual rapists. You watch movies with actors who have killed people. You read books written by racists and homophobes. All. The. Time. And it is so unimportant to you that half the time, you don’t even know.

This business with JK Rowling is a witch hunt. She follows a different kind of feminism than you do. And sometimes she’s a little rude about it. (But we don’t tone police here.) She has never put hands on anyone. She has started charities with her own money. And she is an outspoken advocate for women experiencing domestic violence.

She has expressed acceptance for LGBT people, yes including trans people. She just does not believe a person can genuinely change their sex, that some ‘inclusive’ terminology dehumanizes women and that sex segregated spaces are necessary to protect women.

There is a reason that JKR is being derided the way she is, and it’s not because she’s the worst person in the world. And if you step back, if you read her words, you’ll see why.

If you are defending her I know none of this matters to you but I wish this to be a known thing for anyone who tries to question whether or not Rowling is "actually just misunderstood."

Keen argued for removing "Gillick competence" (a legal tenet allowing minors to consent to medical care, including abortion) to prevent children from accessing puberty blockers. She acknowledged this could restrict abortion access for minors, stating it "requires a rethink".

There is no public record of Keen explicitly stating she wants trans women to die. However, she has used violent rhetoric, such as calling for men to carry guns in women's bathrooms to patrol for trans women.

On thought experiments: some of my most frustrating experiences in graduate seminars have been carefully constructing a thought experiment to provoke the relevant intuitions or highlight the relevant normative or descriptive features that I am talking about, only for my interlocutor to contrive some way of missing the point. And then you keep chasing your way up this tree where you restrict by further specification and they contrive some new way of missing the point. And you try to say "Surely you can see I can just keep adjusting the cases until you confront the intuition that I am actually trying to get you to address" and they say "I don't understand. It's about the deflationary thing that explained the first case." And you try to say "That might have worked five cases ago, but I have really been nailing down any way you could misconstrue this and you seem to be intentionally misunderstanding the cases." But eventually the instructor tells you to wrap this up and you decide that the person you're talking to is just stupid.
