When it’s done, the oil at the surface of the water has to be collected in a vial. I can add that to what I’m working on here, so if you could get that done it’d speed things up. We can make a … weird production line.

That’s...almost like cooking, I can definitely do that. I’m good at cooking. Is it best to do a big bunch of herbs or a smaller amount? Oof...that’s pungent. Okay

I’m sorry about your friend, everyone. I’ll do what I can to help with defending the manor. Not front lines. I’d be bad at that and die real quickly. But I’ll do what I can. I’m sorry. The wolves don’t deserve to keep dying and losing people like this. And you don’t deserve the treatment I’ve been giving you. Let’s just… try to survive another day and maybe I’ll come up with a better way of saying all of this. 

…Moving on, I think it’d be a good idea to set up a low grade healing station, if this great big battle is actually going to happen. I’ll supply it with medicine I find and start brewing up some potions. I guess if we get the privilege of anticipation for a fight for once, we should use it to our advantage. If anyone wants to help, I can show you some things.

Is there anything I can do to help? I was first aid certified before, but that’s pretty much the extent of my knowledge. But I can measure or hand things or...mix? I don’t know.

It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going, because they were holding on to something. That there is some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for.

I… I know. But… I don’t believe this is the end. Or more so… I just can’t. You’re right, this… us and everyone. This can’t be the end of our story. So, I have to continue thinking that it’s not, that we’ll be okay. Even though with every passing threat, I get more scared every time.

I do, too. I’m scared that I’m not ready... that I’ll be useless and in being useless will get others hurt. That in spite of all the training and all the effort that I’m not cut out for this

I keep thinking of that line from the Lord of the Rings movie -- did you ever watch those? There’s a king facing the destruction of his kingdom and the likely end of his people and he’s hyping them up for a fight and someone is talking to him about his tactics or something because other people thought there was a better way, a better chance...It’s been a while, I’m fuzzy on the details, so I don’t fully remember all the build-up but he says something like If this is to be our end, I would have them make such an end as to be worthy of remembering. I never really got it -- why fight if there was a solution, even a far-fetched one. I get it now. And I just...Of course, in the movie, they weren’t wiped out. The odds looked terrible and a lot of people they loved didn’t make it through the fight and I cried but then Gandalf rode in on a really gorgeous horse and brought an army of trees. I don’t know what I’m saying anymore, this story really got away from me... point is, I don’t want this to be the end and I’m still hoping for a white wizard to show up and save the day, but if this is it... if the superior army is coming? I want to give them hell.

Me either. I think... I think everyone else thinks we’re coming up on the end. They’re preparing for a last stand. And I get it...We’ve been jumping from one funeral to the next, watching our numbers and our chances dwindle into odds that just seem impossible to beat. But this can’t be the end, Laurie... we haven’t had enough time.

Jordy bit the inside of his cheek when she handed him the stuffed animal, and he recognized it. “The one from the fire,” he murmured quietly, remembering Charlie grasping it when he carried her out of the burning den. And the day that… he killed her uncle. He thought he saw her holding it after that too. “Um… thanks.” He sniffled quietly, holding Balto gently and trying to focus on that instead of his body’s urge to start crying again.

You’re not alone, Jordy. I know it feels like it and that me saying it probably doesn’t change how you feel, but...you’re not. So, if you ever need anything, whether it’s a sparring partner or a distraction or a hug or, I don’t know, anything. I’m here.

I have news that I should share with everyone. Victoria sent me here to inform all of you… Its Eden. Her body. Ellery, Victoria and I found it about half a mile past the perimeter and the wards where the forest almost meets the surrounding lake. We’ve brought her inside, Mr. Lontoc, Victoria, Ellery, and one of the humans, Alex are currently examining her body to determine her cause of death. 

Outside the wards? Eden...Eden wouldn’t go outside the wards by herself, she knows better. She’d already been taken once. That doesn’t make sense.

I feel like I should apologize to everyone for breaking my own rule about a lockdown in the manor just a day in. But it felt important to find closure for all of you. For all of us. We can’t have a large burial, but we will bury Eden’s body and mark the spot for a ceremony when this is over.

This pack doesn’t really feel like my pack. It’s like the anti my pack. And I’ve already done the new pack thing before so – I mean no offense. I’m making it work. Don’t plan on dying or anything. And the more new people come the better it feels. For now I’m just going to keep doing a lot of sentry because shit gets boring.

I mean...It’s kinda personal...never mind.

A lot has changed over the last several months, I think it’s normal to feel a bit unsettled. You still have Jordan - he was part of your boys club before, right? And...if you wanted to be less of a jerk, abs or not, you could expand your circle. Might feel awkward but it might be worth it. Or, you know, just knock someone down in training tomorrow for old time’s sake.
