Mermaid Speculative Biology
except the B in Biology stands for BULLSHIT lmaooooooo Okay! This is for my fic Water Dogs, but it also can stand alone as a hashtag mermaid post. I've got three genuses, each with 3 species. This follows the Fantasy/Alien rule of "just imagine Humanoid is a common thing to evolve into" like carcinization but Human instead of Crab. I did give them all scientific names! Which I had sooooo much fun with!

(Plus ceremonial/celebratory outfits for Homaffinis and Hominaltum) (Hominaltum do all have chest mouths its just Polite to cover them up, youll see in the genus-specific pics) They do have clothes underwater dont ask me about that im focusing on funny biology, not textiles. if you wanna focus on textiles you can tell me How they would make clothes other than just animal skins, but im not worrying too much about it lmao
Most of them are based (loosely for some) on various cultural Water Spirits. The last 2 are Plot Ones, so they get Irish names to fit in with Fuath. Anyways here's Genus-specific character sheet things.
I've heard tumblr Fucks the quality. which would be bad because uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh there's a lot of little text on here.... check alts if you can't read it! I use she/her for all of them, cuz these are the females of the species.
Anyways if you're here from Water Dogs, Simon is technically a Fuath, but yknow. they unstable. So he's got some Uaisle-uisce traits in that: chest-mouth teeth, and it comes up to a sorta point between the collarbone. the right arm's bones + musculature turned into mouth, so he can kiiiinda move it, but not fully closed.
