This really annoys me, people posting a controversial status and getting outraged when someone disagrees to their status. Your opinion will be challenged online by someone cos there will be someone who disagrees with you somewhere. I donât post controversial things on my social media pages, I prefer to avoid the conflict, I keep my opinions to myself and donât throw them in others faces

Liking is simple and easy to do. There's only one way to hit the like button. But commenting takes a bit more effort. This photo equates the efforts into two different exercises and number of reps. The poster clearly expects to receive more likes, so sets the reps for sit ups at a lower amount to the reps for squats. Do we sometimes like statuses because it's easier than commenting?
I was listening to the radio the other day and the topic was video game rage. There were girlfriends calling in telling stories of how their boyfriends had smashed holes in the tables, walls etc because of their anger towards a certain game (note: normally FIFA). Is this ânormalâ behaviour? Surely playing a virtual world that engulfs your life so much that you smash up your goods is not healthy!?
FIFA has always been one of those games that has baffled me anyway- why not just go outside and play real football? But no I wouldnât say that smashing holes through things due to getting frustrated on a game is normal behaviour at all. But maybe it is in the terms of the game? People let go of anger in varying ways, and maybe theyâre all just caught up in the heat of the moment and itâs just an impulse reaction that simply comes across as having all this anger towards a certain game.Â
Games like FIFA allow people to play football when they can't play outside! They allow you to be immersed in the sport 24/7

How do retweets and re-posting memes like this present something about ourselves? Even though this doesn't say "Charlotte:.." We assume that is what is meant. We assume Charlotte has this trait. How does this carry over to Twitter... Sometimes we just RT something because it's funny, but it forms a representation of ourselves to our followers and the Internet. Do you think about how what you RT reflects you, even if it doesn't necessarily relate to you?
I actually read my app updates the other day, God knows why. Normally I just accept them in auto pilot, perhaps due to an inherent trust I obviously have with these companies. What interested me was how each app presented the features of the update differently. Twitter didn't say anything, messenger playfully introduced a new emoji and Instagram was very professional and direct. Does this affect how we see the apps? Is Instagram a more professional app than Facebook messenger? I think so. How about you?
This post on Facebook is like Russian dolls. The girl has shared Yik Yak's post on FB, which is a screenshot of a yak which features a screenshot of a tweet. That's a mouthful. The point I'd like to make here is how each social media platform seems to spill over into each other. How many times do we see this on our timelines? And why do people do this?

An example of click bait, a statement âdear Caitlinâ and a unsolved ambiguous statement âim reluctant to further anyâŚâ which entices you to click on it. I think also click bait is effective because it uses someone who is prominent in the media, or some strange fact at the centre of its story to make you want to click on it even more.
Could you identify what is click-bait, and what would entice you enough to click on it?

Even so, I do think it is wrong and unethical. It can distort stories and usually when you follow through and click on the article it is nothing like you were expecting it to be. For those who donât fall for it but read the heading alone may come to wrong conclusions which creates lies. Click bait is extremely controversial.Â
Yeah I agree! Itâs like its still hazardous to our perceptions on certain things, even if we donât click on it!
One thing Iâve noticed recently on Twitter and FB is that people are now commenting on the clickbait to let you know what the post is talking about, as if to say âdonât waste your time loading it up, Iâll fill your knowledge gap right now for youâÂ

words have a standardised meaning that is commonly accepted but in my experience a lot of emojis have different semantic uses depending on the userÂ

Iâm not going to lie, Iâm a huge fan of the Kardashians and do watch every one of their television series. Even though Kim Kardashian isnât my favourite out of the famous family, I really respected her response to all the criticism she received for a naked photo she posted on Instagram. At the end of the day, what we post on the Internet and for others to see is our own choice and only we make that choice. Having others criticise it is all well and good, since social networking sites are open to the public, however why should we shame someone for something like this? Sheâs not hurting anyone posting a photo of herself naked, sheâs not implying that people need to look like her, sheâs simply posting a photo. I agree she probably posted this for media attention and to gain publicity, and received plenty of that, but itâs hardly offence or discriminating against anyone, so why are people making such a big fuss out of it and shaming her?
I completely agree with you. I think the backlash she has received is quite telling of our society - sheâs a woman who feels comfortable in her own skin and is happy to share it with others. Why should she feel ashamed and why are people so quick to shame her? I canât say Iâm a huge Kim K fan, especially after a particularly controversial photoshoot with Jean-Paul Goude, but just let her do her thing.
I saw Sharon Osbourneâs response earlier today and I think itâs amazing. I think that too many of us, as women, are exposed to all kind of forms of body shaming and I think if a woman wants to take back some of that pride, she should be allowed to in any way she wants!Â

I agree with you both however, Iâm sure Kim has lots of younger followers and itâs not really setting the best example of how to use Instagram for that demographic. Why does a woman need to post a photo like this? She should feel like she has more to offer than her body. Celebs get a lot of criticism about stuff they post online and its important for them to be responsible when they use media. Also, just another viewpoint, I bet feminists are like âwhy does she have to cover her breasts?â because men can post topless photos but its different if a woman does it because our bodies have been sexualised by the media.Â
Youâre absolutely right, she doesn't âneedâ to post these kinds of photos, but why should that invalidate her desire to? As a feminist, Iâm going to have to disagree with the idea that a woman should require âmore to offer than her bodyâ because I think thatâs a harmful narrative. It just doesnât sit right with me. If you saying she should âoffer moreâ then itâs implying that her body âoffers lessâ. She is making an important political statement about female physicality and the male gaze: she could have written an overly verbose academic journal full of jargon and references to dead philosophers, just to prove how much she has âto offerâ, but she shouldnât have to and she clearly doesnât need to.Â
