I don’t know how much of a hot take this is but, I think that people who wants to become future indie creators. Especially when it comes to creating media aimed at an older and adult audience.
They should try and broaden out their media palette instead of rewatching shows like Steven universe, the owl house, and other media aimed at children/general audience.
Not saying that these shows are bad or don’t have any complex themes. As I love these shows to death and literary grew up with them. But there’s only so much that children media can cover and explore compare to media aimed at older audiences/adults.
If you want to create media aimed at an older or even adult audience, expand your media palette so you can get inspirations and examples of how different media handles their stories.
Or hell even if you aren’t a creative and just want more interesting and complex stories. Start watching media aimed at your age range.
Shows like Steven universe and the owl house are great introduction to more progressive themes and nuance storytelling. But it shouldn’t be your only frame of reference.
