Finale project from my 3D concepts class. We had to find an object that was personal to us and that gave us a strong memory or feeling, and create a sense of empathy through material and design. I chose a teddy bear because police officers will often carry teddy bears in the trunks of their cars to hove to children who has suffered traumatic events. Being the recipient of a bear, I decided to create one out of a fragile material and purposefully break it. It is representative of the sexual abuse I experienced as a child and the resulting irreparable damage that comes with a traumatic event, as well as the loss of innocence and and safety. The effect was achieved through duct taping a teddy bear and dipping it repeatedly in melted soap (which is how I created the layered color effect), and then cutting a seam and removing the shells of soap and placing and sealing them back together.
