Sam felt the picture he just ripped off the wall leave his hand as it crashed against the wall behind Lily who was standing right in front of him. “You see that?! That’s what our marriage is now! Broken and replaceable!” He yelled at the top of his lungs as he grabbed another one, this time it hit the T.V., shattering it where it stood. Emotions ran through his mind. A mixture of sadness and disappointment that she had went without him, but mostly anger. She was leaving him and he couldn’t handle that.
“You want to leave? Go! I’ll be glad when you’re gone!” The anger taking back over his mind as he danced with her around the living room. Glass flying and breaking every other word they spoke to each other. “Don’t try to pin this on me Lily. You were the one who went to audition. You were the one to take it upon yourself to not say a fucking word! This is on you!” Sam yelled once more, this time their Champaign glasses hitting the ground right at her feet. He resisted the urge to grab her and throw her through the glass window. He did not need murder on his hands right now. “If you walk out that door, you are never coming back.”
He watched as she grabbed her bags and head out the door. She had sealed their fate and it unnerved him how easy it appeared to be for her. Sam took a deep breath as he looked at the destruction path the two had caused. He ran his fingers through his hair, almost ready to pull it out. “She’ll be back...” he whispered as he picked up one of their wedding photos from the damage.
The anger finally subsided and the sadness replaced it. By this time, Lily was there to help get him through the emotional rollercoaster that was bound to happen, but this time there was no one. The emptiness began to consume him. His feeling of loneliness too strong to handle. He gently placed the photo on the freshly cracked granite counter, opening the door to the liquor cabinet and pulling out a bottle of scotch, drinking it straight out of the bottle and quickly. Sam needed to forget and this was the only way he knew how.
Present Day
“Are you ever going to file for divorce Sam?” he could hear his new assistant James ask as he sat there and twisted the wedding band that still rested upon his ring finger. He couldn’t bring himself to take it off, no mater how much he thought he wanted too. He shook his head and looked up at James who was standing in front of his desk waiting for an answer. “I still love her. I can’t yet. She will be back...” Sam said lowly, his attention quickly taken away from their conversation and toward a crowd hustling down the hallway with stacks of magazines. He furrowed his brow, getting up and heading toward his office door. “Sam, you don’t want to....” He held a hand up to silence James, turning the corner only to see Lily’s face plastered on the screen with the headline “Miss Lockwood, America’s hottest actress.”
Sam quickly turned on his heels toward his assistant and pointed at the screen. “How long did you know she was using her maiden name?!” he yelled as he turned back to the room full of people, their faces now showing fear. “Now sir...to be fair you said you didn’t want to know....” one of the girls stammered as she backed up as far as she could, Sam now face to face with her. “Get rid of it. Now.” he growled through his teeth as he pulled himself away from her, leaving the room. He made it back to his office and pulled out his phone, quickly calling for his helicopter. “James, I’m leaving. Handle this.” Sam ordered as he grabbed his bag and headed up to the helipad.
Once he got to the set, it didn’t take long for Sam to by-pass security. He let them know that he was the owner of Entertainment Weekly and that he personally wanted to interview Miss Lockland himself for the piece they were writing. Navigating the sets, he quickly found the one she was working on. It really wasn’t hard with her face in the center of the promotional image. He silently slipped in and took a stand behind the director who was now calling cut for what felt like the millionth time.
He crossed his arms and watched her get ready for another take, this time stepping out to where she would be able to see him. He raised an eyebrow and smirked the minute she had noticed him there. Sam stared at her as he watched her start to lose herself, his attention being taken by the director. “Ah yes, closed set. My apologies. I’ll be leaving now.” He said politely as he walked out of the set and toward Lily’s trailer.
“Miss Lockland huh?” Sam asked as he clicked the lock to the trailer door, the two of them now in close proximity. “I fucking waited for you. Kept my wedding ring on in hopes you would make your way back and you.....” he paused, inhaling sharply. “You just write me off like I am nothing to you?!” His voice beginning to raise as he moved his way closer to her. “While you were away I built an empire so that way when you returned I could give you the life you deserve. But you were out here doing it yourself without me!” He balled his fist, quickly hitting the wall next to him. “This little charade you have going on here, it’s done. You’re coming home. That is not for discussion.” Sam growled, not budging on his decision.
