Samuel says, as he sees Alex ride up.

Alex nods, 'Hello, Samuel. I need your help. Gilan was stupid enough to get captured by some nasty bandits.'

*Samuel chuckles* "And what did he get himself into now?"

Alex rolls his eyes. 'He got ambushed, and since I'm just a kid, I can't save him alone. That's why I need your help.'

"Fair enough. I'll help." I trail off, muttering something about how the person or people who caught Gilan must be very good at tracking in order not to get noticed by him. I look over and see you watching me. "Not every kid gets to be an apprentice Ranger, you know. Give yourself some credit."

Alex raises an eyebrow, unsure how to respond. He doesn't get compliments that often.

'Right... follow me. It's not far from here.'

*Samuel mounts his horse, Belle, and follows Alex.*

"How's Gilan doing these days? Other than being captured, of course." *I ask*

'He's annoying as ever, so I think he's doing fine,' Alex responds as he leads his pony Coco into the forest. 'Keeps thinking I'm trying to be funny. Utterly ridiculous. How's life treating you?'

"That's good to hear. Gilan's always been kind of annoying. My fief's kind of quiet, but that's a good thing."

'We are supposed to keep the piece after all,' Alex adds, then abruptly makes Coco stop. At that exact time, the pony neighs in a warning. Alex glances over to Samuel, unsure what to do.

*Samuel also stops Belle, then whispers to her* "Where?" *Belle angles her head towards the left. Samuel pats her neck and Belle relaxes.* "Dismount quietly, and keep your bow ready" He whispers to Alex.

Alex dismounts and acts like there's something wrong with his bow. He seems to test out if it works by loading it with an arrow. Someone is whispering in the bushes.

*Samuel glances at Alex, giving him a quick look, almost as if telling him to hurry up. Samuel says aloud* "Whoever is in the bushes, show yourself. There's two rangers with a pin on your location. If you don't show yourself, you're going to be full of arrows."

From the bushes two men arise. Alex is tense and in classic apprentice core unsure what to do. Then he seems to realize something.

'Wait a minute- you... GIVE BACK GILAN YOU LITTLE-' Alex continues to scold them.

*Samuel angrily snaps* "Alex, let me deal with them. You may provoke them to fight us, and we don't want that if we can avoid it." *Glancing at the two men, Samuel adds* "On another note, I'd also like to know what you've done with Gilan. If he's hurt, you're dead."

Alex immediately shuts up, though he's clearly still furious. He continues to glare at the enemies as he waits for an answer. The men hesitate and decide to just not say anything.

"Well? What do you two have to say for yourselves?" *Samuel snaps, raising his bow in a threatening manner. He's pleased with Alex's restraint after the reprimand.*

Alex still glares at the two men, one of which finally dares to say something. 'He's not dead yet, probably, there's still time!!'

Alex responds by flipping them off.

"Take us to him NOW. If you don't, I'll kill one of you, and torture the other until he tells us. Do you want pain, or the easy way?"
