Currently splitting his time between hanging out at Merrock Fire Department or having a fight with paperwork at Merrock Hospital. Lives alone in a house by the coast. Youngest of two, born in a leap year, celebrates birthdays once every four years.

Cori was enjoying her afternoon walk around the coast, what was left of her midday coffee from Cobblestone in hand, when she ended up at &Chips for lunch. Walking up to the establishment, she came across a familiar face. "Quick pit stop for food or are you getting a proper lunch?" she asked with a smile.

Sam looked up from his phone when he heard the question to see who was talking. "Oh. Hey, Cori," he returned the smile before letting out a small chuckle and answered, "Proper lunch. I should eat a proper meal once in a while. You? Going to get it to go or gonna take a seat for a bit?"

Taryn smiled as the wind blew threw her hair. She didn't get out to the coast or beach much and she realized she needed to change that. She leaned back as she popped a strawberry half into her mouth and dug her toes into the sand a bit more. Hearing her name from a familiar voice, Taryn smiled and waved Sam over to her spot on the beach. "Come over here! See, I told you I could get you to do something fun on your day off. The beach!" she said excitedly as she put her arms out at the scenery in front of her. "We get a little piece of Cali right here in Merrock. Is this the first fun thing you've done all day?" she grinned eating another piece of strawberry.

Sam couldn't get out of his house fast enough that afternoon. Was he glad that his parents wanted to stay in town for the summer? Yes. Was he looking forward to their commentary for what felt like every single thing he did or didn't do for the day? Not really. When Taryn suggested going to the beach, he welcomed the excuse to get out of the house (on his day off!). "I know, I know," he replied with a laugh, walking over to where she was after calling out her name to let her know that he'd arrived. "Oh, I don't know. I was having fun at home. My parents and I are redecorating," he said but also rolling his eyes. He eyed the strawberries and pointed at them, asking, "May I?"

Letting out a whistling breath when Sam asked about whether they should keep going or not, Jason knew that they could. They could move through he woods as long as they wanted to, but that didn't mean that they were going to find anything… but turning back could mean that they left someone out there who really needed help, too, and then what would he do? He had a duty to protect everyone who entered the woods, especially if they needed help. "Can you reach dispatch from here?" he asked, looking back at Sam, "see if they have any updates? I know the service isn't always the best here, or we can use my radio to page the lodge, if someone can't reach us, maybe they called the office and they have an update there? Might be better to check in before we decide to go further or go back and find out there really was someone out here the whole time."

Sam looked towards the trail, hoping to see further down enough to make a decision. And hoped whatever decision they made, they wouldn't be regretting it. "I can try," he then said when Jason asked if he could contact dispatch from where they were. He pulled his phone and realized that the signal was indeed terrible but he gave it a try anyway. He was hopeful but not the least bit surprised when he only managed to say a couple of words when it connected before he got cut off. "No. I can't reach dispatch. I would suggest one of us go up a tree to get a better service but that's probably a terrible idea," he joked. Not because he didn't think the situation wasn't serious. But he just wasn't sure what else they could do and he was really worried. "I think you should check with the lodge and see if dispatch contacted them. Then we'll decide what we should do because I really don't want to go back only to learn that there's someone injured and waiting for us."

"I think it's a crossed wire in our head or something. Any even vaguely baby like and our ape brain just goes," she flashed her hands like a siren, "cute, cute, cute." A bit of fluffy cotton and some big black eyes could do that to a person. "Tough luck with the darts. What's been the best ride so far? I've been so laser focused I haven't been able to even do a perimeter sweep and see what the got this year."

Sam let out a chuckle at the provided explanation of why they would think that this stuffed animal as cute. "None of that makes sense but at the same time, I can believe it," he grinned. "I went on the Ferris Wheel before I volunteered at the dunk tank. Then I went on the swings. It is now the good time to walk around and check the other booths and games because I need to dry off even more."

Sam emerged from the water, having spent the last half hour surfing. The waves were a bit higher than usual but it wasn't too high that it was unsafe for the casual surfers. He noticed Tae standing not too far away to where he left his towel and water bottle. He gave a wave in greeting towards the younger man as he approached. "Hey, Tae. Thinking of going into the water?" he asked as he placed his board on the sand. "The waves are good," he grinned.

"Let's agree to disagree, Samuel." JJ let out a laugh as he held his hands up in defence, knowing that it was best not to argue any further about something so trivial. Because it did sound as if the two of them were arguing about toothpaste. "Who knew that we could be so passionate about ice cream flavours?" He remarked, letting out another laugh before he shook his head. "Yeah, I try my best to take a break whenever I can. Between work and raising Mia, I don't get a lot of time to myself. But now that my parents are both retired, they've been wanting to spend more time with their grandkid, and who am I to refuse? If it gets me a few hours to run errands and even stop for ice cream on my way home, I can't complain." JJ knew how lucky he was to have parents who did not mind watching his toddler for a few hours, even if they did have their moments. As a single father, he appreciated all of the help that he could get, but within reasonable limits. "Work is alright. It's a lot less busy in comparison to the hospital. I work a nine-to-five schedule and have my evenings and weekends off. I think I prefer the mundanity of giving developmental checkups and treating sinus infections over working the night shifts in the ER. The days are a lot easier and more predictable."

"Hey, there are worse things to be passionate about," Sam laughed. Making a serious argument and actually fighting about ice cream though, or toothpaste, yeah, that wouldn't be a good thing. "I can only imagine. But, hey, you get a break, Mia gets to spend time with her grandparents, and your parents get to spoil their grandchild. Everyone wins," he smiled. He had met all kinds of people in his line of work, seeing the aftermath of people being overworked and overwhelmed. And with young kids in the picture, that was even more important to keep things from being too much. "I appreciate that you don't use the q-word in describing your day and said that things being mundane instead. If you jinx us, we are not talking again ever," he pointed a threatening ice cream spoon towards JJ before giving a chuckle. "But, I still can't imagine myself working a nine-to-five. Having a weekend off sounds good though."

Taryn smiled and nodded her welcome after he thanked her. "Something tells me you have plenty of time to take off and go on a trip, Sam. You know the firehouse and ambulance won't disappear if you're not there for a week, right?" she teased. She knew that getting a break for Sam was much harder than scheduling one for herself, but she also knew that he more than deserved it. "Hmmm, so they just always want to be in the warmth. I get that. The cold is only fun in the beginning." she nodded.

She chuckled and nodded. "That is very fair. It's very hard to say no to three sets of puppy dog eyes." Taryn always found it hard to not give into puppy dog eyes so she was screwed from the start. "Yeah, see, I have way too many clothes for that. And shoes come to think of it. Only having a backpack is definitely something Si..." she started before shaking her head. "Maybe it's a man thing." she grinned softly before drinking from her water bottle. "Well, the dogs' stuff is always more important than our own. Maybe because they can't unpack things for themselves is the reason their stuff always gets unpacked first."

"Definitely not, but could be interesting. I probably would just watch it for the plot." she grinned softly. "Thank you, Sam." she said as she gave him a genuine smile. Her smile grew as he tried to prove to her that he didn't just work all the time, but it was proving difficult. "You haven't told me anything you've done for fun. I'm not sure you getting the second room ready would pass the fun vibe check. There has to be other things you do...right?"

"Them not disappearing for a week and them letting me disappear for a week are two different things, Taryn," Sam said with a laugh. Would he like having the whole week off so he could take a trip? Sure. But that was easier said than done. Although he did decide that he'd wait until he'd been with the team for over a year before he'd try asking for a week off. "Yeah. A week in the cold is enough for them," he let out a smile. Which was why his parents were a little surprised with his decision to move. And curious. Hence the summer plan.

"Three against one will never be fair," he let out a chuckle, and a quick look towards Cosmo who didn't seem to mind that he kind of got ganged up on. No one was fighting so he took that as a good sign. He gave a smile when Taryn faltered trying to mention Simon's name before then returning the grin. "Maybe. I just got tired of things not getting unpacked when trying to find stuff. Backpack seems easier. I can just leave it alone too just in case I get asked to help emergency services from other cities." It didn't happen that often, thankfully. More often that happened was his sister or his parents contacting him and asked him to drop by. "No, that's definitely true. And even if they can unpack the bags themselves, everything will be just everywhere all over the house. We'll get more work having to tidy everything."

"I'll just stay on the side and be the onsite medic, just in case," he grinned. He returned the smile at her thanks then let out a dramatic groan when Taryn mentioned that he had yet to mention anything that he did for fun. And that getting the second room ready didn't count. "Oh, come on," he made a dramatic protest and then let out a laugh. She wasn't wrong. "I'll get more fun stuff in the summer when I don't feel like I'll become a frozen statue the moment I step foot outside the house. I think a good swim in the ocean or a morning surfing is overdue."

"I'm not against it - I've just been busy at the last couple events. Obviously there's the mural, but I helped with kids coloring pages at the winter market." The idea of doing face painting with Sam did sound fun, though. They could understand why Sam didn't want to do a mural, it had been more pressure than Harley anticipated when they signed up. But it was always fun to try a different medium, and it was for a good cause. They were surprised to find out there had been no negative reviews - Harley couldn't overhear what people were saying about it, so they only knew what people were willing to say to their face. "Really? Nothing negative? That's....unusual. Wow." They tried not to smile, but they couldn't hide how good it felt to hear that. "I mean, I'm not planning anything right now, but how do you think it would be more challenging there?"

"I get it. I'd usually just be on standby or the onsite medic. But since there's a special cause this time I figured why not try to take part a bit more," Sam shrugged. He did debate a mural for a brief moment but he immediately tossed the idea for the reasons he just shared with Harley. Face painting seemed less pressure, or so he thought. He only needed to draw something small but at the same time he'd get direct reviews if someone liked it or not. And rarely anyone was able to hide it if they didn't like it. He might need to think it more if he wanted to do it again next time. He then gave a nod to Harley's words. "Yeah. The ones I heard are positives. If anyone says anything else, I didn't hear them," he said with a chuckle. "Well, the medium, I guess? For some reason, I'm imagining painting on barn walls. Which probably not going to be the actual medium used but suddenly flat walls downtown full of people sound easier," he said then let out a laugh as he shook his head. "Look, I've never done a mural. It's all challenging to me."

"Oh sure, make sure that it comes back to me for the blame," he said with a low laugh, knowing that it was highly possible, given his reputation in town. If someone learned anything from a lawyer, there was a very good chance that he was the lawyer that they were referencing. For better or for worse. "Okay…" he reached for the mirror as it was offered it, glancing from the kid that seemed to be checking themselves out in the big mirror to the little one in his hand… and then let out a laugh, "okay, it's not nearly as bad as I was expecting." And then he paused, realizing that it might come out as a little offensive, offering Sam a lopsided, apologetic smile, "not that I expected you to be an awful artist or anything!"

"You can talk your way out of it, I'm sure. No one will think I get the idea from you," Sam said with a laugh. He definitely wouldn't be naming names but he wouldn't be surprised if they came to a conclusion that it was Rafael that he was talking about. He had heard about the man before he even met him all those time ago. He then looked towards the kid as Rafael took the mirror from him. The young client seemed intent on making sure to check all angles, which internally made him worry a bit and the kid wasn't even his client. Sam then huffed out a laugh at Rafael's words, moving his hand to wave it off. "Hey, I'll take that. I don't usually take part in something like this. My art is usually confined to my sketchbook. And the occasional uploads to my art account that barely has any followers. 'not as bad as expected' is pretty good to me," he grinned. And he meant it.

"Me? I'm just trying to support the cause," Kennedy gave a teasing grin, though, to be honest, it was probably her competitive nature shining through. Even if it was just a silly little carnival game, she got annoyed every time the target barely budged. She wasn't sure if her throwing arm was off, or if it'd been intentional, but she'd been locked in on the concept of finally dunking someone. "Nothing on you, I'm sure I'd be just as determined if it was anyone else in hindsight," she laughed, before she gave a nod at the mention of the sweet treat. "Suppose that's as good a consolation prize as any."

"Well, thank you for supporting the cause," Sam said, returning the grin. He wasn't annoyed or upset the slightest that anyone hit the target. He volunteered fully aware and prepared to get dunked. The water was cold and not exactly the cleanest but, like she said, it was for a cause. A good cause. "Good to know," he gave a nod and a chuckle. "Cotton candy is always a good consolation prize. Or so I've been told. But also it feels like there's something missing if you skip on anything sweet at a carnival. And that's coming from someone who isn't a fan of anything overly sweet."

Alice gave him a smile. "All in the name of the newspaper," she said, clicking her pen, before sticking it behind her ear again. "Honestly, I'm kind of surprised I even hit anything because I swear I had my eyes closed," she laughed. "I'm just glad I didn't hit you," she smirked. "Did you have fun, though? Do you feel like you contributed to a good cause?"

"Uh oh, that's worrying. What kind of headlines will you make with my soaked, half drowned look?" Sam asked with a smile. He then let out a chuckle when Alice said she was taking aim with her eyes closed. "That's even more worrying. I'm so happy none of the wild throws hit me," he joked, giving her a grin. "I did have fun. Always glad to help for a good cause. Would be better if I don't have to get wet but it's summer. I'll dry quickly."

"Wait... Why?" Erin raised her eyebrow at the other as he approached her. She sipped the last of her frozen lemonade before tossing the cup into one of the bins. Hearing his response caused her cheeks to turn pink, and she looked down at her feet in slight embarrassment. "Oh... That," she paused for a moment, nodding as she looked up to meet his gaze. "Well, every year, I come out to the dunk tank to watch all of the hunky, shirtless men get dunked. The park ranger who went before you, he and I kind of had this eye-to-eye thing going on, and then this kid dunked him, and he had to go. Then, you came on, and I guess I took all of my anger out on you," she explained with a shrug. "I'm afraid cotton candy's not better than eye candy, Samuel. Do you think you could get me that park ranger's number instead?"

"Okay. This is my first time volunteering at the dunk tank and I'm not quite sure what to say to that," Sam said with a chuckle. "But glad I could help? I mean, better you taking out your anger at me at the dunk tank than an unsuspecting soul who had no idea that you had things kind of planned with one specific park ranger," he smiled as he tried to remember who went to the tank before he did. "Yeah, I don't think anything can win against eye candy," he said with a laugh then tilted his head as he contemplate her request. "Remind me who it was that went before I did? I don't think it's Jason. Was it Jason?" Okay, the man wasn't the only park ranger in town but for some reason, he was the one that came to mind even though Sam wasn't sure if he saw Jason before he took his turn at the dunk tank.

ఇ "Apologize? Never. Aren't we supporting our firemen and first responders by helping them cool off?" Seungbin hadn't meant to dunk any other person besides JJ, but then the fun had kicked off and he'd been carried away in the heat of the moment. "Unless you were responsible for that anonymous tip about Bigfoot they tried to have me announce..." He considered going along with it but ultimately had run out of space in the morning announcements, leaving it for another morning to try if he chose to. But he stretches out his arm and nods. "Why not?" He'd yet to have any and he had not tried the berry mix since he was a kid here.

"Then instead of an apology, I'll say 'thank you for the help' then," Sam said with a laugh. It was for a good cause and he didn't really have that much of a problem for getting dunked. The water still felt cold despite the weather so the other had a point anyway. It did help him cool down. "No. That was not me. Wait. There's Bigfoot in town?" he asked, wasn't sure if he should take that seriously or not. "Awesome. I'm actually not a fan of anything sweet but since it's carnival, I figured why not. And if I don't have to go alone, even better," he chuckled.

"I feel like I should apologize to you for…something," Sam said with a chuckle as he approached the other, having just did his turn at the dunk tank and had now changed so he was dry, mostly. His hair still needed some time. "I mean, I'm not sure what I did but felt like you were quite determined there earlier when I was at the tank. So, I gotta ask, what did I do?" he asked with a grin to say that he was just joking. "Cotton candy on me?"

"Come on you've got to admit he's the ugliest, most grotesque cutie ever stuffed with cotton." She was prouder by the moment for her accomplishment. She pushed her funnel cake toward Sam, offering him some as she nodded. "Ring toss is grueling work. The rides will be a lot more fun."

"Yeah, I don't think I can argue that. How is it possible that's he's both ugly and cute at the same time?!" Sam said with a laugh and put the stuffy on the bench just so he wouldn't accidentally bring it with him. He accepted the offered funnel cake and said his thanks. "Oh, yeah. Tried darts earlier, won nothing so I can definitely agree that the rides are more fun. Granted, I didn't spend two hours at it so…"

"Two hours!" Cherry leaned back against the picnic benches on the edge of the fairgrounds. She'd taken to them with some funnel cake needing a reprieve and some space to brag. "Two hours at the ring toss! I was going to go insane. But I saw this," she lifted the stuffed animal from her lap and tossed it over. (The ugliest, and somehow cutest, blobfish stuffy.) "And I knew I had to have it." She tipped a piece of funnel cake into her mouth. "Now the fun can really begin."

Sam caught the stuffed animal and raised his brows as he looked at it before letting out a chuckle. "Fair enough. If it's calling to you then it's calling to you, I guess. I admire your persistence." A thumbs up was given as his other hand was still holding onto the stuffed blobfish. "'Now' the fun begins? More fun than two hours of ring toss?" he laughed.
