Fictober 2018 - Day One

Prompt - Autumn

Dean leaned against the porch railing, mittened hands wrapped around a steaming cup of hot cocoa. The wind bit at his cheeks, turning them a rosy pink as he looked out at his family playing in the yard.

His husband let out a gleeful laugh as he dove into a newly raked pile of leaves. Following closely behind, their two kids, Emma and Claire, sent out equally joyous shouts as they piled onto their dad. Dean grimaced as he noticed Castiel take a knee to a particulary sensitive area.

Setting down his mug, Dean descended the porch steps, leaves crunching underfoot as he made his way to join the pile. Being careful not to squish his kids, he threw himself to the ground, leaves puffing up around him. He turned to Castiel with a grin. Their eyes met. Castiel reached out and took his hand, giving it a firm squeeze. Around them, Emma and Claire continued to play, throwing handfuls of leaves into the air and laughing as they fell back around them. Dean closed his eyes, content. His life was pretty good.
