i don’t know if anyone else does this on here but i never tag my fics with just the name of the person i’m writing for. like if i were to write for [insert name] i never use a tag that only consists of said name.

which i do solely bc of the fact that i hate when i’m looking up certain characters for example and all that pops up is fanfics. like no baby i want to see gifsets. i want to see analyses. basic text posts. fanarts. the general stuff. if i want to see fanfic i will look it up with the tag that’s meant for it ‼️

Any tips how to start writing longer fics? I can never churn out more than ~2000 words 😔

okay first and foremost, big huge massive disclaimer that i don’t really consider myself to be a solid writer (those folks are to be found on ao3 more often than not). but here’s some things i swear by!

this might sound like a captain-obvious type of reply but i think the bottom line is that you really gotta love your story to the point you don’t wanna stop writing it, if that makes sense? for most of my longer fics i had a lot of inspiration in the beginning so that made it easier to get to a higher word count from the start. (there will also most likely be the inevitable writer’s block. sometimes u gotta recharge yk)

for certain longer, plot-heavy fics i make a little index/table of contents in bullet points to see if the story is balanced out well + if it works in general. if you feel like it’s all over the place, it might be good to check out typical story structures. in several of my fics for example i use the basic structure of mc + love interest meeting > build-up of their dynamic > eventual conflict > conflict is resolved > ending.

and lastly i’d recommend not to rely too much on tropes. personally i use these a lot in my tags as an indication of the contents of the fic, which is fine imo but if you see the shit they’re talking about on booktok…

anyway that’s pretty much it i think. also do whatever you want. write whatever you want. the world is ur oyster something something

and i don’t have a specific way i get ideas for my fics tbh! sometimes i just come up w a single scene and then i decide to write a whole fic around it, other times i draw inspiration from music or film or poems, or i simply get a sudden flash of a certain scenario in my head… writing for me is pretty messy overall but it works i guess :D

i see the student x teacher pairing sooo often (all the university professor fics) but for some reason i’ve never felt that drawn to it. maybe i’ll eventually write a drabble if i have the inspo though bc i do kinda see the appeal!

are there any like popular tropes you will never include in your writing? just curious hehe

mmm ngl i do love a lot of the overused cliché tropes. like if there’s only one bed or some shit i will always eat that up.

from the top of my head a couple tropes i will never write and don’t like to read either would be pregnancy, abo, girl falls first (death sentence for this btw), anything set in high school, that super specific biker guy + flower shop owner girl scenario… can’t think of other ones rn
