"Isaac laughs remembering "One time we were looking at the monitor and Guillermo said to me, 'A European would never make this movie that we're making. This is a Latino-telenovela version of the story. It is not a coincidence that my Victor Frankenstein isn't being played by an English person, it's being played by Oscar Isaac Hernández from Guatemala." Speaking in Spanish with his director was comforting to Isaac. "It was truly the first time I felt like I was making something with a family member. Even though its Mary Shelley, and the story takes place in Geneva and Scotland, I felt so connected to my heritage. It bubbled up from the earth. It felt like an ancestral journey for me." [Frankenstein: Written and Directed by Guillermo del Toro]
yknow reading this interview made me realize that it's not just acting that has a race problem, it's all of the film industry front to back.
oscar isaac has been in the industry since 2005, and while he considers english his first language, imagine how infrequent his experience with spanish speaking directors is if he's saying he found speaking spanish with guillermo comforting.
I've been in "chrysalis mode" working on various projects and i haven't had much to share recently - so lets look back at some older works!
I started working on moving toward freelancing in 2020 and since then I've made a lot of drawings I'm proud of. Here are some faves! Many are available as prints in my shop. :-)

fucking disgusting that nobody cares about actual children
when i was a kid, for a very long time, my thoughts were focused on suicide. when, where, how. came close to acting on those thoughts many times. punching myself was my version self-harm, no cuts, only hideable bruises, i didn't realize it at the time, i just knew it took my mind off of things, that pain.
but why? because no adult in my life saw children as people. i was thing, dragged along to show off how good my parents were. anything different needed to be hid. i was forced to attend school where i was bullied, othered, talked down to, harassed, or ignored otherwise. i had no choices, no way of standing up for myself, because it punished if i did. and i was punished over and over again.
i was hit, i was verbally abused for two decades by my immediate and extended family, and i was sexually abused by my older brother before i was allowed to understand what was happening.
children desperately need rights. they need the power to say no and have that be backed up by a system that will support them. i didnt want to kill myself, i wanted to escape my family and there was no other option available to me. i isolated myself for years because of the abuse i faced and many more never made it past their suicide attempts.
children need rights so that the rampant and plain-as-day abuse they face can have a chance of being stopped. when children have somewhere they can go, away from their families and abusers where they have a guaranteed bed to rest in, when children have the knowledge they need to identify when they're being abused, when children arent forced into labor by parents, guardians, or companies, when children arent forced to say yes to adults, when children have the freedom to express themselves, when children have the freedom to choose who they are and transition,
WHEN CHILDREN CAN SAY "NO"
is when i can finally be truly happy

sorry not sorry but just get Firefox with adblock, yes even on mobile
ads on the internet have long been shittifying things my friend, this is a solvable problem. why would you go here when you don't have to.
I, and the person who made the original post, & most tumblr users (because the average tumblr user is a 35 year old furry working in IT) are using ad blockers. Just because I go out of my way to keep that bullshit off my screen doesn't mean I can't complain about the industry that employs people to invent new ways to shovel it onto everybody's screens.
Like, just consider the wasted resources that go into a single advertisement (whether or not it actually gets rendered, because ad blocking only stops this very last step). Consider the incentive networks. Consider things like smart TVs, which inject their own ads & will refuse to even work until you sign a document saying they can sell all your data (including, presumably, the audio recordings they take in your house for "quality assurance" on their speech recognition tech). Consider how ICE is bulk-buying location data from ad targeting networks in order to track people (something that won't be fixed by an ad blocker; turning off GPS on your phone will help, but you're still going to be able to be localized down to the tower if you're on mobile data).
I'm a software engineer, I run linux as a daily driver, and I have a half dozen privacy-related & ad-blocking browser extensions, but I still can't fully keep up with the enshittification. A month or two ago Google broke the fucking POWER BUTTON on all android phones by making it redirect to their chatbot, and I had to look up how to disable it (even though I had already previously disabled all their LLM bullshit). Managers and product designers in tech for whatever reason feel entitled to your computer, your data, your attention, and your money, and they should have to earn all of those fucking things.
