Went down a bit of a rabbit hole and ended up creating a demonic (Echolian variety) language for my upcoming fanfic. This took me much longer than expected, but once the idea got in my head, I couldn't let it go. Excited to share Glitch's first introduction with the fandom soon.
Little snippet of what it looks like so far:
seg’e g’ug’ for̊uǂ reŕ g’ʉ˩ŕ hwuhŕ řø e eŕʉ˩ṛ ; suhř rǒresuh ru duhǁˤʼ hwuhǁˤʼ řø hǒǂě .
(Take this soul and shape it to my will; hold captive that which seeks to spill)
ǂǒhuhr dohw ǁˤʼuhṛ , řodz ǂeřuhǂ g’ug’ tithe , duhr̊ e ěṛet řodz r̊e døṛě .
(Bound by blood, I offer this tithe, so my enemies I may smite.)
You can only write regularly if you’re willing to write badly. You can’t write regularly and well. One should accept bad writing as a way of priming the pump, a warm-up exercise that allows you to write well.
i know we are our own worst critics. but exclaiming “my writing is horrible” is not at all helpful. be more gentle with the words you use.
you know how detrimental those words can be to other writers. that’s why we don’t go around saying it. you gotta give yourself the same respect you give other writers

Mason watched over the forest from his spot on the roof, as he did any night he didn't sleep. Lily was once again on his mind, and he didn't know anymore whether or not to keep fighting the confusion taking hold of his heart. He knew these feelings were not of friendship. She might now be an agent, a proper member of Unit Bravo, but he couldn't bring himself to call her his friend. He wanted more, he knew he did. This yearning for her went above any type of desire he had ever experienced in the past, the constant need to be near her, to make sure she was safe and unharmed... He kept drowning in everything she was, from her flustered reactions and sarcastic answers, to the way her hair flew in the wind and her face lit up whenever she figured something out. He kept drowning in her and wanted to take another deep breath, let her invade anything of his he could ever offer, keep her closer than the air filling his lungs and the moonlight caressing his skin. He craved her in such an unknown way, yet he never wanted to fight it, never wanted to fight this urge to be close to her, to keep her safe and away from any type of harm.
Mason sighed. Pinching the bridge of his nose, he let his head hang low, his hair hiding him away from the rest of the world as he tried to make sense of the mess he was feeling.
"I'm just enjoying watching you experience this."
Nate's words still rang in his ears, and just like every time he remembered them, he frowned.
"Why would I tell you and ruin the surprise ?"
Mason groaned in frustration. Lifting his head, he let one of his hands rest on the ground behind him, keeping him in balance as he looked up at the night sky.
"Going to your happy place ?"
The familiar voice snapped him out of his thoughts. His head turned quickly in surprise, and the pleasant feeling of warmth spreading through his chest at the sight of Lily almost completely replaced the one of frustrated confusion that had been haunting him for the last few months. It was always the same thing. Whenever she was near him, whenever she was in his sight, whenever he heard the sound of her voice, Mason didn't hate everything just as much. The singing birds weren't as loud anymore, the wind stopped whipping his skin, the sun hurting his eyes was no more...
"You're offering to help ?" He smirked back at Lily, chuckling lowly as her teasing turned to her quietly making her way next to him.
Mason looked back at the trees as Lily sat down next to him, the emotions she stirred in him being too much for him to handle. He almost scoffed at the thought. How ironic. She softened down every single aspect of his life, muffled every single sound and light that were stinging his skin, his ears, his eyes… but his mind and heart had never been as solicited before she walked into his life. Hell, the thought of her invaded him so much he hadn't even noticed her before she made her presence known.
All he knew was being a vampire. From pheromones to hypersenses, Mason knew nothing but how to read others, make them talk and admit a truth they might be too scared to share. He knew nothing else but to decipher and read between the lines, and yet, he couldn't come close to identifying whatever he was feeling. He could see through the little details and hidden subtleties, but how was he supposed to see the bigger picture ? He knew he wanted Lily to be safe, he wanted her to be by his side, close to him, both literally and figuratively. He knew he felt something...
Mason dared glance in Lily's way. She was staring at the forest as he had been a few minutes ago. She looked stunning. Her green eyes softly shined in the moonlight's glint, her blond hair was loose, a bit messy from sleep and maybe from passing her hand in it. She was beautiful, she always was, always had been and always would be, even with the tired look she had been arbouring for the last few weeks.
"Got trouble sleeping ?" Mason questioned, already knowing the answer. Either Lily's mind was plagued with nightmares, or preoccupied by yet another unsolved case Unit Bravo was assigned to. Sure, she wasn't a detective anymore, but that didn't mean the workload and stress that came with it were less to deal with.
Her resigned shrug was enough to confirm his guess, and his heart clenched at the idea that there wasn't as much as he wished he could do to ease her worries and exhaustion. A light frown settled on his face as he looked over Lily once more, taking in the way she seemed to be in her own mind, thinking of things he wished she would tell him, even if they made no sense or were as uninteresting and annoying as a fly trying to fly out of a closed window. He looked at her more and more, his eyes trailing from the length of her nose to the way her lips pouted slightly as she gazed at the scenery in front of her. He took in the way her shoulders were tense despite the fact her stance looked relaxed as she leant her weight on her hand, the stiffness of her fingers matching the anxiety remnants that had her heart beat so loudly in her chest.
Licking his lips, Mason let himself look back towards the horizon. The sun was slowly starting to rise behind the trees, but this time the lighter blue of the sky didn't hurt his eyes as much as usual. He sighed in relief, embracing the rare enjoyable feeling of the sunlight caressing his skin.
Without tearing his gaze from the forest, Mason let his hand rest on top of Lily's, the sensation of her soft skin against his enough to drive his worries away. He might not know much just yet about the feelings she was stirring in him, but for now, he did not care. Not when moments like this existed. Not when he could feel her muscles relax under his touch. Not when they had each other anyway. Whatever the appropriate terms could possibly be, in this exact moment, Mason was content to just look at the sunrise, Lily's hand in his, with her now steady heartbeat lulling both their worries away.
Sometimes it's the little things that bring back the spark of inspiration and sometimes it takes seeing your beloved OC through the eyes of someone else, even if they raise the bar for you to live up to with your own writing, haha 😂😍
#love your fandom mutuals #love your (fandom) artists and the inspiration they bring

@doulyeah Thank you SO much, I absolutely adore this piece and it's just perfectt for the pair. I feel truly blessed!! Now I need to go read it again, because I keep finding new bits I absolutely love to bits. THANK YOU 😍😍❤️❤️👌
Ahh.. it was so much fun participating in the fic exchange! Thank you so much @wayhavenficexchange for the tremendous amount of work you put into this with all the organising and spreadsheets and what not!
Thanks also to my giftee, @apenapaperandadoofus for letting me borrow your wonderful detective for this little bit of fluff. I hope you like it, I really enjoyed getting to know Theo.
The fic can be found here, with a little extra thrown in at the end.
I'll share a snippet if you share one? ;) Only if you want to of course! If you prefer not to, I would also love to hear what has changed in that fic because of b3?
Hello dearest friend! Thank you for asking! I would love to share a snippet and would love even more to read yours!
This is something I’ve been working on for a few years now (oh my!) and I’ve shared bits of it here and there. The ideas for it have evolved once from a book I read (The Liar’s Dictionary) … and it inspired on that ask on where each UB member would leave a hickey
What’s changed here has to do with Nate’s continued weakening of his resolve around Suri’s blood. There was a scene in early b3 where N avoids the detective’s neck but then later, on the pool table, the detective feels N’s fangs on their throat.
So! All of that can really be played with here in this little scene. I was glad to not have finished it yet as we hadn’t learned that important bit yet!
Thank you for asking!! Please share yours!
Edit: I realize that this doesn’t actually show any kissing anywhere!! But it’s later and I haven’t written it yet 🤦♀️
Here’s mine, it’s from my antique store AU! Under a cut, because it’s 18+ (minors dni)
A sweet kiss follows, almost chaste, if it weren’t for the words he murmurs against her lips, “Tell me where you want me to touch you.”
It’s a question, a request. What does she want?
Heat pulses exactly where she wants him, but with a semblance of self-control, she takes one of his hands to guide it down to her breast. His thumb circles her nipple through the sheer fabric, and her back arcs at the sparks it sends through her.
“There, yes, and,” she gasps when he unhooks her bra and bends down to tease her nipple with his mouth, “and lower.”
He angles her with her back to the bed, pushing gently until the mattress presses against the back of her knees, the hint clear. She lets herself fall, while Nate sinks down on the floor and bends down, down. Deeper than needed to—
Oh.
His lips press against the inside of her ankle, soft and warm, and Yael inhales at the unexpected touch. Catching her eye, he smiles at her as he kisses her other ankle before taking off her shoes.
“Low enough?”
A laugh escapes her. “I think you may have been a little… overeager there.”
His eyes sparkle with amusement and something else, something smouldering and full of promise. “Let me try again.”
As for the reason I love this, it’s because in this AU, Yael first meets Nate at a time in her life when she feels everything went wrong. She has no idea what she wants. But she decides to go to the event where she meets Nate, she flirts with him and it goes well! She asks him to come home with her and he lets her take control like this and it’s good.
It doesn’t solve everything, of course, but it gives her a little boost of confidence, which is a start to her making some other, larger decisions.
Oh I remember this one, Seren, it's so good! Also love the added snippet, both of these are a treat. Can never get enough of Nate with my fav. Detectives!
Hello my beautiful friend! Note sure if you are taking prompts, but if so:
"A midnight kiss, the stars in your eyes, my soul in your hand" for Nate and Yael pls! <3 <3
Hi Witch <333 Thank you so much for the prompt, dear friend. What was supposed to be a romantic piece turned a lot more angsty and a little spicier instead haha. Hope you'll like it!
The sultry summer air carries the sweet scent of blood. Nate can almost taste it on the back of his tongue as it fills his lungs, rich and intoxicating. Familiar.
Yael.
Fear spikes through his body as his step falters.
She’s hurt.
Where is she?
Wayhaven’s forest is wrapped in shadows and silence, or as silent as it can be. Leaves rustle in the breeze only to fall quiet again, her scent gone before he can determine which direction to take, the air unmoving and heavy with the day’s lingering heat. He inhales once more, deeply, but the rich and enticing smell of her blood that had swept through the air like a siren calling across windswept waves truly is gone.
That physically hurt my heart... Thank you for your brave sacrifice, sometimes curiosity not only kills the cat, but stomps all over your heart as well.
OoooooOOOooOOOo new commission type unlocked everyone! I will be adding the 'sketchy comm' option to my commission master post, but I wanted to give it a post of its own so I can show off example works of the style!
Essentially what we're working with here is loose lines and flats, with some light shading and little to no rendering. Still lots of fun effects and bright colors because...it's me we're talking about here... These will also probably have a quicker turnaround time than my fully rendered comms as well!
I'm excited to offer you guys some variety (and perhaps some lower price points as well)!
If you want more details about my commissions,😍here is the link to my masterpost! ✨
I’m excited to announce this Wayhaven gift exchange!
Now that Book 3 has been released for a while and we’ve had a change to read it and let everything sink in (and read it again), this seemed like a great time to do a fic exchange.
The idea of this exchange is that you will get assigned to another participant, your “giftee”. You will then write a fic featuring that person’s detective*, and someone else will write a fic for you, about your detective. This can be a sweet, romantic fic about the detective and their LI, but it can also be about found family feels with UB, or you could go in a more angsty direction. Whatever you think will make a great gift for the other person!
At the end of the exchange, all participants will share their gifts with their giftee and on here, so everyone will be able to see what has been created for this event ^^
When?
Deadline signing up: 9 July
Everyone will receive a message with the information of their giftee before 14 July
Deadline for turning in fic: Monday 14 August (09:00 CEST)
This corresponds to 17:00 AEST; 01:00 CST
Gifting: 20 - 27 August
Since the gift is meant to be a surprise, the gifter will only reveal themself to the giftee when sharing their fic.
The minimum word count is 800 words.
If you want to sign up, send me a message! You will get a link to a sign-up sheet on which you can give some basic info about your OC(s) and their worldstate.
*** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** ***
Looking forward to hearing from you and to reading the no doubt wonderful fics that will be written <3
