I wasn’t going to reblog this but I do think its very fun and timely in light of the December traffic stop we are all now learning about.
this is an insult
I once applied and interviewed at a bookstore cafe for a barista position. It was way closer to my home, and I had almost a decade of experience working in a coffee shop at that point.
Got to the interview, and it turned out they didn’t want a barista, they wanted someone to spearhead their new cafe, as the cafe that had been in the store before didn’t want to resign their lease with the bookshop. They wanted to put their own cafe in its place, all new menus etc. They needed someone experienced to train their new staff, to handle window displays, to communicate with the bookstore owners about changes and needs of the cafe, to be able to handle inventory and ordering.
Okay, I had basically done most of that stuff at my previous job. I asked if cafe positions would also be required/trained to work the bookstore. They would. They would be required to run the book sale counter, stock and reshelf books, and help bookshop customers find things. They would also–despite having an outside cleaning company–have to help maintain bathroom cleanliness. They’d have to take out trash, and clean spills, and vacuum. Wow, that’s a lot, I said. Is this a manager’s position, then?
No, I was told, it wasn’t, but there was a chance that after a training period it might become one. And that made me pause, because I’d been working as the front-of-house manager at my cafe, and I knew how much work that entailed, and what kind of money I was making, and it was only the commute that had me looking for a new job. So I asked what the job paid. $8. E I G H T D O L L A R S. Per hour. Barely above minimum. For all of that work. For someone they expected to get an entirely new cafe up and running, and then also do the work of the bookstore and the cleaning company as well. I thanked the woman for the interview, said I’d have to talk to my significant other about the impact a four dollar pay cut would have on our finances, and that I wasn’t sure it was the job for me. She asked me to sleep on it, and she’d call me the next day. This is a job I was way more than qualified for. I had years of experience doing exactly the things they wanted. It was a convenient location, close to my home–I could walk there if I absolutely had to. I did not go home and talk about that four dollar pay cut and what it would do to our finances. I knew as soon as she told me that not only was it not feasible for us, it was downright insulting. That little money? For a frankly ridiculous list of responsibilities and expectations? She called back the next day. I thanked her again, and told her in no uncertain terms that my time was worth way more than what they were offering. And whenever people bitch about Millennials being lazy, not spending money, not buying houses…whatever the complaint of the month is…I think about the very nice lady who conducted this interview, and how confused she was that I didn’t want the job.
Big Hit Announces Decision To Reschedule BTS’s “Map Of The Soul” World Tour Due To COVID-19
Big Hit Entertainment has announced the decision to reschedule BTS’s “Map of the Soul” tour due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. The announcement was made on April 28 and it reads as follows: “Hello. This is Big Hit Entertainment. The following is an announcement regarding BTS’s “Map of the Soul” tour concert schedule. The decision has been made to completely reschedule the “Map of the Soul” tour, originally scheduled to begin in April 2020. With the global proliferation of COVID-19, the tour’s Seoul performances were previously canceled in February with the subsequent postponement of the North American leg of the tour in March. Ticket sales for the European and Japanese performances are imminent. This tour involves the participation of staff and crew from around the world as well as global logistics systems. While there are certain countries, regions, and cities where conditions have improved, including Korea, it is difficult to make the decision to begin the tour based on these recent developments. Due to the nature of BTS concerts involving travel by thousands of international fans no matter where the performances are held, it is also difficult to resume the tour with the current strict restrictions on cross-border movement still in place. Moreover, it is impossible at this time to predict when the first performance marking the start of the tour will be able to begin. Therefore, we have made the difficult decision to suspend the previously-announced tour schedule and develop a new schedule. Big Hit Entertainment will completely reschedule the tour and provide a new tour schedule to our fans as soon as it becomes clear when the tour can begin. This may require considerable time as the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve. However, we will work to ensure that BTS and their fans will be able to meet each other as soon as they can. We will also create new ways for our artists to engage with their fans and respond to the “New normal” while we wait to resume activities halted by COVID-19. The decision to reschedule the tour was made with the health and safety of our artists and fans in foremost consideration. We have devoted considerable time to prepare the best performances possible, and we hope to express our appreciation of your patience by striving to deliver the best shows. With sincerity and commitment to transparency, we will inform you of any and all further changes and continue to provide updates. We ask for your generous understanding of the circumstances behind this decision regarding the “Map of the Soul” tour. We will endeavor to bring you the best concert experiences possible. Thank you.” BTS’s “Map of the Soul” tour was originally set to begin in Seoul on April 11, 12, 18, and 19, but the concerts were canceled due to public health concerns over COVID-19. BTS was scheduled to begin holding concerts in North America in late April, with the US tour dates then being postponed, and they were also supposed to be performing in Europe and Japan till the tour wrapped up in September.

On tour announcements and disappointment
BTS, at this point in time, has between 10 and 20 million dedicated fans, possibly more.
The newly announced concert tour has six stops. Even if they sell out all 447,000 seats, that is still less than 5% of the fandom! 95% of our fandom will not be at any of these concerts!
Reasons devoted fans won’t be going:
1. They don’t live anywhere near where the stops are.
2. They don’t have the money.
3. They have other important life stuff going on.
4. They can’t afford to travel.
5. They can’t get the time off school/work.
6. Their parents won’t let them.
7. They are parents with child care responsibilities.
8. They won’t be able to get tickets when the tickets go on sale.
9. Their physical or mental health prevent them from going.
And millions of other reasons.
If you are feeling sad that you can’t be at these concerts, you are not alone! 95% or more of ARMY is right there with you. Whatever specific reason it won’t work out for you, there are definitely other ARMYs going through the exact same thing.
So take a deep breath and think about the joy BTS has already brought you. You are not less of a fan and you are not alone.
in case you needed to hear it ♡
For everyone’s information:
The plan for the 17th, when the adult content ban comes in, is to protest.
To do that, we are making as much noise either side of the 17th as possible, and using the site as normal.
On the 17th, dead silence.
People are saying log off but what they really mean is don’t open the site or the app.
But, on the 17th make as much noise as possible on every other platform. Tweet about it and post on facebook and instagram and everywhere else.
What this does is causes a massive dip in ad revenue for one single day. That does not make staff think ‘oh everyone’s gone let’s shut down.’ What it actually makes them think is ‘oh shit people aren’t happy and if people don’t keep using our site we’re out of money and out of jobs.’
A boycott reminds a company that the users (consumers) have the power to make their site (business) worthless with one single coordinated decision.
If you want to join in, here’s what to do:
Do:
Close all open instances of the app and site on all your devices before the 17th
Make posts before and after the 17th on tumblr and other platforms, talking about why this ban is bad
Make posts on other sites during the 17th. Flood the official tumblr staff twitter and facebook with your anger and your opinion
Come back on the 18th and check in
Don’t:
Delete the app from your phone (this doesn’t affect their revenue and since it’s off the store at the moment it’ll be hard to get back)
Delete your account. I mean you can if you want to, but if you keep your account and don’t use it you’re saying to staff that there’s still time to save it. If you delete it’s hard work to come back.
Open the app or website (including specific blogs)
Make any posts (turn down/off your queue and make sure nothing is scheduled)
Go quiet elsewhere. Make it clear that this is just about tumblr, not a mass move away from all social media.
Remember: the execs don’t care about anything but money. Shutting down the site means there’s $0 further income from it. That’s their last possible course of action. If we make it clear we’re not happy, they’ll have to do something or we can do more and more until it becomes too expensive.
Protests take commitment. They’re a defiant action against a business that is doing something wrong. They will try to scare you into not participating, because they’re scared. We hold all the power here, sometimes the execs just need to be reminded of that.
I can’t stop thinking about the mama speech. I’m an overthinker so it’s hard to stop myself once my mind starts wandering. I just want bts to be happy. I want them to take a break and relax for once. I want them to take a proper vacation, no film cameras, no managers, just themselves. I want them to take a proper break, not just a few days, but a few weeks at least. I’ve been thinking and a thought that crossed my mind was that we really take bts for granted. So many fans this past year+ have only been focusing on getting them more awards and achievements, they’ve only been focusing on getting bts to the top. I get that all the people who pushed streaming and voting so much probably had good intentions in mind. they wanted nothing but success for them, they wanted them to maintain face in mainstream media. but I think those people became a bit too greedy and tbh a lot of us forgot about the immense pressure of being at the top. this might be an unpopular opinion and i apologize if it offends you, but idk I’ve never really focused on numbers when I listen to music. I know that some people actually enjoy streaming and voting (etc) non-stop but it raises my anxiety whenever I see people constantly pushing everyone to do the same. I hate that people take music charts so seriously but I guess it’s similar to how a regular job evaluation is. It’s similar to how grades in school are. Everything in this world is based on a damn ranking system and I hate that. It makes us constantly compare ourselves to other people but there’s honestly nothing we can do about it because criticism also helps us improve. I know I’m probably not making any sense right now bc I keep thinking about things that contradict everything i’m saying right now so sorry for the rambling. My point is, it seems as though getting all these achievements became a higher priority than bts’ mental state and health. I hope we realize that this pedestal we put them on is only hurting them. this goes for a lot of idols and artists. They’re human beings just like us and expectations are the greatest form of pressure. I hope we can just relax and enjoy their music for what it is. I just want them to take their time releasing new music because they’ve released so many albums already and they really, really deserve a break now. Please, I cannot stress this enough, don’t pressure them whenever they mention a new project they’re working on, it only makes the process less enjoyable for them. It must be so stressful for them already because they’re constantly wondering about how we’ll receive it so constantly harassing them only adds on to the stress. I just wanna give bts all my love and that’s it. I want them to know that I just want them to be happy. that’s it. that’s all I’ve ever wanted because that’s what they gave me.. happiness.

There was an interviewer who was interviewing Monsta X at Jingle Ball and she belittled their achievement as the first kpop group to play jingle ball and Madison square garden by throwing BTS’ Grammy nomination in their face. That’s such a atrocious thing to do. Both groups are making history, but do not fucking belittle one for the other. That is wrong, unprofessional, and embarrassing. Imagine being proud of what you do, and then having someone be like “omg but did you hear abt what this person did??” And then asking if you could/wanted to do the same. I am livid, but yknow what? I’m proud of Monsta X for remaining professional during this interview, and not losing their minds because heaven knows I would have.
amber composed and wrote at least a dozen songs for herself and f(x), produced an entire mixtape, filmed, directed AND edited her own music videos and f(x)’s
jonghyun wrote almost ALL of his entire discography, composed songs for other kpop artists like iu and exo and lee hi, and wrote and co-wrote many of SHINee songs
seohyun has been credited many times as a lyricist and producer for her own songs and for snsd songs as well
donghae, yesung, eunhyuk, shindong, siwon, kyuhyun, heechul, almost all of super junior have wrote, composed, and produced NUMEROUS songs for their solos and super junior albums and also directed their own mvs
henry wrote and produced plenty of songs for himself and other kpop artists
mark and taeyong co-wrote almost HALF of nct’s discography
chanyeol, suho, baekhyun, xiumin, lay and other members wrote and produced songs for exo and cbx albums
luna, yeri, sooyoung, tiffany, hyoyeon, boa, yuri, yunho, and many many others all studied composing and lyrics writing so they could write their own songs
there’s probably a lot more sm artists i missed but ALL OF THESE idols worked hard and battled sm constantly just so they could get their compositions to be released in albums or sm stations and you have NO RIGHT TO INVALIDATE ALL OF THEIR EFFORTS
i guess someone didn’t do enough research and so i am definitely judging you.
in keeping all patient confidentiality, i do wanna mention that today one of my patients who has very high anxiety and is not very trusting of ppl really opened up to me once i found out she’s a fellow ARMY. it was amazing to see how she went from being quiet and scared of conversation to grinning from ear to ear at the mention of namjoons name, asking me questions about my favorite bts run eps and wanting to actually engage in conversation, and i swear this just gave me another reason to add to my endless list of why i love bts. they have the power to make ppl feel safe, to make them happy, and to connect them with others. i just can’t thank them enough for the impact they’ve had on me and the lives of those around me.
