There goes my baby
Sheâs getting ready again. I can see her through the sliver of her window, not enough to be caught, just enough to see what I need to. She moves like sheâs part of a song only she can hear.
Bet you aint know that I be checking you out, when you be putting your heels on
Sheâs got that little ritual, the one where she slides on her heels just before she leaves. The way she balances, one hand on the dresser, her hair falling over her face itâs perfect. I bet she doesnât even realize anyone notices. But I do. I always do.
Sometimes I imagine sheâs doing it for me, that she knows Iâm watching. That thought alone makes my chest tighten, like Iâm caught between guilt and something too deep to name.
She turns toward the mirror, checking her reflection, and when she lifts her head when her face catches the light I feel it again. That strange electricity that crawls over my skin, makes the air heavy.Â
I get the chills whenever I see your face
Itâs like my whole body reacts to her presence, like she controls the current in my veins. Every time I see her face, itâs the same involuntary shiver, that rush that feels like both fear and worship.
She steps out onto the street. I let a few seconds pass before I follow, keeping my distance. Her perfume lingers in the air soft, familiar, a ghost of her that trails behind.
The world fades around her. Every sound the cars, the wind, the people become background noise. Sheâs the only real thing moving through the blur. My eyes canât help but trace every step, every shift of her body as she walks away.
There she goes, the only thing that makes sense in this whole spinning mess of a world.
My baby.
Even if she doesnât know it.Â
Yet.
She stops at the corner, checks her phone. I see the glow light up her face, soft and innocent. Someoneâs texting her , maybe that guy she was with last week. He doesnât get it. He doesnât see her the way I do. The way she moves, the way she smiles like sheâs got the whole world in her pocket.
I whisper the words before I can stop myselfÂ
There goes my babyâŠ
She starts walking again, and I follow, not too close, not too far. I know every rhythm of her life: when she takes the late train, when she leaves her window cracked open, when she hums in the shower. I donât mean any harm. I just⊠need to be near her.
Sometimes I imagine saying hello, a chance meeting, something simple. But then I remember how fragile moments like that are.Â
If she saw me, really saw me, maybe the spell would break. Maybe the music would stop.
So I stay in the shadows, where she shines brightest.
I still remember the first time I saw her. I was being driven through Times Square on my way to a late-night talk show, another stop on the HIM press tour before the premiere. It was rush hour , horns blaring, billboards flashing, the kind of chaos that makes New York feel like itâs alive and breathing.
And then I saw her.
She was standing at the corner, helping a daycare worker wrangle a small army of kids - seven of them, maybe eight- their tiny hands tangled in bright-colored rope they were holding onto , She crouched down to tie one childâs shoe, smiling like the world wasnât racing around her at a thousand miles an hour. For a second, everything else blurred. The traffic, the noise, the city itself. It was just her.
Our car kept moving, too fast for the moment to last. But as the city swallowed her back up, I knew Iâd never forget her face.
I was humming along to my workout playlist when the sound of my ringtone cut through the music. I sighed, set down the dumbbell, and wiped the sweat from my forehead. The name flashing on my screen made me grin.
My manager.
I tapped the answer button. âWhatâs up, Darius?â
âTyriq, my man!â His voice boomed through the speaker, all energy and excitement. âYou ready for the premiere tonight?â
âAs ready as Iâll ever be,â I said, grabbing my water bottle for a sip. âYou know Iâve been running through the talking points, right?â
âGood, good ,because youâre gonna need âem,â Darius replied. âRed carpetâs packed tonight. Reporters, influencers, the whole nine. Youâll have a couple interviews before the screening starts, Entertainment Weekly, W magazine , maybe one or two surprise outlets.â
I laughed, shaking my head. âYou make it sound like Iâm going into battle.â
âHey, man, that carpet is a battlefield. Just keep that charm turned up, drop the movieâs name a few times, and smile like youâre having the best night of your life.â
âCopy that,â I said. âIâll wrap up here and head home to get ready.â
âPerfect. Carâs picking you up at seven. Donât keep me sweating like you do those weights.â
I chuckled. âAlright man.â
He laughed and hung up.
For a moment, I stood there, the quiet hum of the gym filling the space where the music used to be. I slipped my earbuds back in, picked up the weights again, and pushed through my last set, each rep syncing with the pulse of anticipation building in my chest.
⊠. ăâș ă . ⊠. ăâș ă . âŠ
The faint scent of baby lotion still clung to my hands, even after two washes. Occupational hazard of wrangling toddlers all afternoon. I glanced at the clock -6:02 p.m.- and my stomach flipped. Less than an hour until I had to be downtown, badge on, mic in hand, pretending I did this kind of thing all the time.
I stood in front of the mirror, curling iron in one hand, phone wedged between my shoulder and ear. My roommate, Tasha, was on the other end, hyping me up as usual.
âGirl, youâre gonna kill it tonight,â she said. âYouâve been manifesting this moment since college.â
â I know I know Iâm just so nervous,â I said, letting the curling iron fall through another section of hair. âWhat if I freeze up? What if I say something dumb, like- So, how does it feel to be famous?ââ
She laughed. âThen you recover. Youâre good at that. You talk to three-year-olds all day, remember? Celebrities canât be that different.â
That made me smile. Maybe she was right.
I finished curling my hair, brushed out the waves, and took a step back. The reflection staring back at me different than the usual child inflicted stains , sleek black dress, a dusting of shimmer on my eyelids, lips painted a confident red I didnât totally feel yet. Usually, my uniform was jeans and juice stains. Tonight, I looked like someone who belonged on a red carpet, even if Iâd only be standing beside it.
I threw my essentials into my bag: press badge, notepad, recorder, extra batteries, lip gloss. My lucky pen , worn down, ink nearly gone, made the cut too. I couldnât risk leaving that behind.
As I slipped on my heels, I whispered under my breath, âOkay, girl. This is it. First big assignment. Donât trip. Donât fangirl. And please donât ask anyone about their skincare routine.â
My phone buzzed with a text from my editor:
Be on-site by 6:45. Youâll cover arrivals. Make it good, kid.
I locked my apartment, took a deep breath, and stepped into the hallway. The excitement hit me all at once like caffeine and adrenaline had joined forces.
Tonight wasnât just another side gig. It was a chance. A small one, maybe, but mine.
Camera flashes pop like fireworks as luxury cars pull up to the velvet ropes. Tyriq steps out, sleek suit catching the lights, confidence in his stride. Reporters call his name, microphones stretch toward him.
He flashes a practiced smile, half excitement, half charming and steps onto the red carpet.
⊠. ăâș ă . ⊠. ăâș ă . âŠ
TYRIQ POV
The red carpetâs a blur of lights and noise â camera flashes exploding like fireworks, people shouting my name, microphones flashing toward me like weapons. Usually, I can tune it all out. Smile, wave, shake a few hands, answer the same questions a dozen times.
But then I see her.
At first, I think Iâm imagining it , my mind playing another cruel trick. The crowd parts for a moment, and there she is, standing beneath the harsh glow of the lights, mic in hand, trying to steady her breath.
Her.
The one who moved through the world like it was hers and didnât even know it. The one Iâve been seeing through that window, like a song I canât stop replaying.
Sheâs here.
For a second, everything around me falls away. The cameras, the fans, even Darius yelling something to my left , gone. All I can hear is the pulse in my ears, all I can feel is the heat crawling up the back of my neck.
Sheâs so close I can see the tremble in her fingers as she adjusts the mic. I can almost smell her perfume light, sweet, familiar. Vanilla and something softer underneath, like jasmine maybe. It hits me in the chest, that scent. Itâs the same one that lingers in the air when she walks past her window at night, the one Iâve learned by heart.
And now itâs here alive, surrounding me.
The handler gestures for me to step forward, and I do, legs moving before my brain catches up. My throat tightens, but I force the usual grin.
âTyriq, over here!â she calls, her voice warm but professional.
When our eyes meet, I feel that same jolt sharp and electric. She doesnât recognize me, of course. Why would she? To her, Iâm just another actor to interview. But to me⊠sheâs the center of a world she doesnât even know sheâs holding together.
âHi, Tyriq! Iâm Y/N from PopScene Weekly. Congratulations on the premiere of your new movie âHIMâ how are you feeling tonight?â
Her voice is clear, steady. Iâve heard a lot of people talk to me on carpets like this but no oneâs voice ever sounds real. Hers does.
âHonestly?â I say, and my own voice comes out lower than I intend. âA little stunned.â
Her brows lift. âStunned? Whyâs that?â
I canât help the smirk tugging at my mouth. âDidnât expect to see such a beautiful woman such as yourself here tonight.â
She blinks, a quick, nervous laugh slipping out. âWell, surprise! I clean up nice if I do say so myselfâÂ
âYou definitely do.â
Her lips curl faint, but itâs there. She glances down at her notes like she needs to anchor herself. âSo⊠tell us about HIM. What drew you to the project?â
I take a slow breath, pretending to think, but really Iâm just trying to memorize the moment the shine in her eyes, the way her perfume curls in the air between us.
âItâs a story about power â I say finally, eyes still locked on hers. âAbout taking what you want by any meansâÂ
She tilts her head, interest flickering. âSo do you believe in that, taking what you want?â
âI do.â my words firm as her gaze flickers away from my intense one
Her lips part slightly, and I see her pulse jump in her neck. Sheâs trying to stay composed, but I can tell Iâve thrown her off balance. The thought makes something warm spread through me pride, desire, maybe both.
My co-star Marlon steps up beside me, saving her for a moment. âMan, heâs getting deep already?â Marlon laughs. âWe havenât even seen the movie yet.â
She laughs too, grateful for the break. âJust doing my job.â
When Marlon finishes his soundbite, I know our timeâs almost up. The handlerâs already motioning us along, but I canât leave just yet. Not without one more look.
I reach out, shake her hand. Her fingers are smaller than I expected, soft, warm.
âNice talking to you, Y/N ,â I say quietly, holding her gaze. âHope I see you again tonight.â
Her breath catches barely, but I notice.
âMaybe you will,â she says, voice soft.
I let her hand go slowly, not wanting to break contact. The cameras flash again, and I turn away, forcing myself to keep moving down the carpet, but I can still feel her eyes on me.
Every word, every sound fades into static.
All I can think is how close she was. How she smelled. How her voice felt like something Iâve been waiting to hear.
And for the first time in a long time, the fame, the noise, the endless faces none of it matters.Because sheâs real. And sheâs finally within reach.

Finally posting again! been hella busy, the party is based off real frat parties Iâve been too, Wanted to make sure i posted this before i went out for halloween tonight!đ ignore any mistakes lol
Part 1
Itâs been a week since homecoming, and even though the rumble of the crowd has faded, I still feel the echo of it every time my phone buzzes with a new notification.
After my second lecture, I sat outside on the quad, scrolling through the flood of texts, tags. The schoolâs student ran instagram, posted the picture and tagged us.
âYou guys are literally goals.â
âThat kiss?? Iâm crying.â
âYouâre on the schoolâs homepage omg!!â
The photo was everywhere , me and Cameron in the middle of the field, confetti raining down, his arm around my waist, that stupidly perfect kiss frozen under the stadium lights. Someone even turned it into a TikTok edit with slow motion and The Weeknd playing in the background. It had half a million likes.
I shouldâve been focused on studying for my midterm, but honestly, how was I supposed to concentrate when my face was still trending under #CollegeBlackCoupleGoals
It was cute, sure the only problem was⊠we werenât actually a couple. Iâve barely talked to him since the game.
Luckily, the hype was finally dying down. Things are only relevant for so long these days.
Still, every time I opened my phone, there we were again confetti, stadium lights, that kiss. The internet had decided we were some kind of fairytale, if only. It almost felt like heâd already forgotten about me.
I was halfway through pretending to highlight my notes when I spotted my roommate power-walking across the quad no, sprinting like she had breaking news.
âOh no,â I muttered.
âY/N! MY SWEET ROOMMATE!â she screamed the second she saw me, turning a few heads. I groaned, already bracing myself.
She skidded to a stop in front of me, breathless but grinning like sheâd just won the lottery.
âBiiitchhh,â she dragged out, eyes wide. âOkay, listen. Donât hate me, but my boyfriendâs frat is throwing their massive Halloween party next weekend, and youâre coming with me.â
âParty?â I blinked. âWhich frat?â
She smirked. âThe Alphas. The one your man just happens to be in. On the same team as my boyfriend.â She added it with that duh tone that made me want to throw my coffee at her.
âEveryoneâs talking about you two you literally have to show up. Couple costumes, pictures, the whole thing.â
I groaned, sinking lower on the bench. âYouâre kidding.â
She shook her head. âNope. Youâre going. Youâre basically campus royalty right now. Not just because of homecoming youâre popular, you know all these bitches jealous of youâ
I opened my mouth to argue to say I couldnât go, that I needed to study but before I could get the words out, my phone buzzed again.
Cameron đ
Hey ma, meet me after practice?
My heart did that annoying little flip it always does when his name pops up. I bit my lip, trying to sound cooler than I felt as I typed back.
You:
Oh, look whoâs alive.
It took him all of two seconds to reply. It's clear that he hadn't even left the chat.
Cameron đ
Iâm sorry, beautiful. Been busy.
I rolled my eyes, though a smile tugged at the corner of my mouth. Busy, huh? I could practically hear his voice when I read it.
You:
Yeah, I can tell.
Three dots appeared. Disappeared. Then
Cameron đ
You comin đ„ș?
I laughed out loud, earning a weird look from someone passing by.
You:
Ew, that emoji đ okay fine, Iâll come.
Cameron đ
See you soon, pretty.
I stared at the screen for a second longer than I shouldâve, that smile Iâd been fighting finally breaking through. My stomach did that soft, fluttery thing it always did when it came to him.
Wow, I thought. A week of barely talking, and all it takes is one text.
I started packing up my things. âWe can talk more about the party later, okay? I gotta go, boo,â I said.
My roommate raised an eyebrow, smirking. âOuu, I know that look. Your man texted, didnât he? Youâre about to go see him.â
I ignored her, trying (and failing) to hide my grin as I slung my bag over my shoulder.
âBye, girl.â
âUh huh,â she called after me. âTell Him I said hi!â
I didnât look back, but she wasnât wrong. My heart was already racing like I was back under those lights.
⊠. ăâș ă . ⊠. ăâș ă . âŠ
The walk felt shorter than usual. Maybe I was just excited. Nah must be the sidewalks. They probably shortened them.
I nodded to myself at the thought, pretending I believed it. Pretending I wasnât just excited to see him.
As I approach, the sounds of grunts, shouts, and cleats pounding against turf fill the air. Sweat, grass, and adrenaline , the whole field smells like competition.
âI swear they be soundinâ like they prepping for war,â I mumble to myself, stepping around the corner.
âAlright, boys!â The coach's voice booms across the field, cutting through the noise. âThatâs it for today! Same time tomorrow donât be late this time, Johnson!â
A few of the guys laugh, tossing helmets to the ground or shoving each other playfully as they start filing off toward the locker room. Someone blasts music from a speaker loud, bass-heavy, pure chaos.
âYo, Cam!â one of his teammates calls, slapping him on the shoulder. â you coming to get food with us?â
Cameron chuckles, shaking his head. âNah I got sum to do .â
Thatâs when his eyes found me.
Iâm leaning against the wall, pretending to scroll through my phone like I didnât just spend the past two minutes fixing my hair in my camera app. His mouth curves into that slow grin, the one that says he knows exactly what heâs doing to me.
âoh I see how it is,â his teammate teases, following Cameronâs gaze. âMy boy got plans. Say less.â
A chorus of laughter and whistles follows as the guys jog off toward the parking lot, helmets swinging at their sides, voices fading into the hum of dusk.
Cameron stays behind. He grabs his water bottle, tips it back for a drink, then drags the back of his hand across his jaw , sweat glinting under the orange glow of the setting sun. His chest rises and falls, shirt clinging to him, breath still uneven from practice.
Then he starts walking toward me slow, steady, that easy confidence he always carries, like the field belongs to him.
For a second, it doesnât feel real. He looks like he stepped straight out of one of those cheesy teen romance movies, the golden light, the half-smile, the kind of moment that would have a soundtrack playing in the background if life were fair.
And even though I told myself I wasnât excited, my heart clearly didnât get the memo.
Girl, breathe, I tell myself, snapping out of the daydream just as he gets close enough for me to smell the faint mix of grass, sweat, and cologne.
âHeyyy,â he dragged out, his voice low and teasing as he walked up, eyes sweeping over me with that familiar smirk.
âYou look good,â he mumbled, leaning in with his arms open for a hug.
âAht ah boy, you all sweaty and shit,â I laughed, putting a hand up to stop him.
âStop playing with me,â he said, grin widening as he caught my wrist and gently pulled me closer anyway.
Before I could protest, I was against him, my face pressed to his chest, the warmth of him seeping through his damp shirt. He always smelled so good, a mix of cologne, grass, and something I couldnât name but somehow always recognized.
And just like that, the world seemed to shrink, the noise of the field fading into the background. For a moment, everything else disappeared, content smiles on both our faces as he rested his chin lightly on my head.
âMissed you,â he murmured, pressing a soft kiss to my forehead. I looked up at him, trying to play it cool.
âOh, Iâm sure,â I said, voice dripping with sarcasm. âForgot about me, huh?â
âI could never,â he said, the sincerity in his voice matching the way he was looking down at me, eyes soft and steady.
My heart skipped a beat. I pulled back slightly, breaking the hug, though I didnât step too far away. âSo⊠whatâd you text me here for?â I asked, trying to sound casual, but my voice betrayed a hint of curiosity.
He shrugged, that easy, boyish grin tugging at the corners of his mouth. âHonestly? I just⊠wanted to see you.â His gaze didnât waver, and I could feel the warmth in his words reach straight to my chest.
I blinked, caught off guard by the straightforwardness.
âAnd⊠um,â he continued, looking around suddenly nervous , âI was also thinking⊠when are you free for that date I promised you? You know, the one Iâve been dodging for a week?â
I felt my cheeks warm. The teasing in his tone made it impossible to be annoyed, even though part of me wanted to act like I was.
âHmmâŠâ I trailed off, tapping my chin dramatically. âI donât know⊠will you ghost me after this one too?â I teased him for what felt like the hundredth time.
He groaned, rolling his eyes. âYou canât hold that against me forever.â
âYes, I can,â I shot back with a smirk. Before he could argue, I added, âBut⊠Iâll be free Friday.â
His expression instantly brightened. âGreat. Iâll pick you up seven?â
âSounds good to me.â I paused, raising a brow. âSo is that all? Did you really make me come all the way over here just to ask me out?â
âNope.â He popped the âpâ and leaned down until we were eye level, that familiar mischievous grin tugging at his lips. âLetâs go get food. I just need to grab my stuff first.â
Before I could even respond, he jogged off toward the bench where heâd left his things. I watched him go his easy, unhurried stride, the way he slipped on his zip-up jacket. The late light caught in the fabric as he zipped it up, the motion so casual yet oddly captivating.
A few seconds later, he was jogging back toward me, with a lopsided grin still playing on his mouth.
âAlright,â he said, falling into step beside me, ânow weâre ready.â
I blinked, caught off guard, but before I could respond, he extended his hand toward me open, patient, waiting.
I hesitated for just a second, then slid my hand into his. His fingers curled around mine like it was the most natural thing in the world.
âCome on,â he said, tugging me gently forward.
We fell into step, the late afternoon sun painting the campus in warm gold as we headed toward the little ice cream spot near the quad. The air was cool, our joined hands warmer than either of us would admit out loud.
We walked in a comfortable silence, the kind that didnât need to be filled. Every now and then, one of us would ask how the other had been, trading small updates between easy laughter and the sound of our footsteps on the path.
The sky shifted from gold to pink, the last stretch of sunlight fading behind the trees. With the sun went the warmth, and a soft chill crept through the air.
I slipped my hand from his to run it over my arm but a small shiver still slipped through.
Cameron noticed immediately. Without a word, he shrugged off his zip-up hoodie and draped it around my shoulders.
The warmth of the fabric, still carrying his scent fresh soap and something unmistakably him wrapped around me like a secret.
âBetter?â he asked, his voice low, his fingers brushing my arm for just a moment longer than necessary.
I nodded, hoping the dim light hid the smile creeping up my cheeks. âYeah,â I said softly, trying to sound casual even though my heart had started doing somersaults.
As we walked again, I couldnât stop myself from smiling. The butterflies in my stomach were fluttering with every glance he sent my way, every bump of his arm against mine.
⊠. ăâș ă . ⊠. ăâș ă . âŠ
By the time we reached the diner, a lowkey spot just off campus with neon lights buzzing faintly overhead the air had grown crisp. He opened the door for me, the smell of coffee and fries filled the air.
Inside, the warm light softened everything. We slid into a booth by the window, the vinyl seat squeaking slightly beneath me. He sat across from me, resting his elbows on the table, his eyes catching mine with that easy, lopsided grin that made my chest tighten all over again.
âSo,â he said, leaning forward, ââ you been here before?â
âYeah the dance team comes after practices sometimes, I like to come here to study though â I lean forward tucking my hands into my lap.
âdamnâ he shook his head faking disappointment â thought I was finna put you onâ
I laughed, shaking my head, finally starting to relax but still very aware of how my heart refused to slow down.
The waitress came by, dropping off menus and two glasses of water. We quickly ordered grilled cheeses fries to share and milkshakes because Cameron swore the chocolate one âchanged lives.â
The conversation slipped easily between jokes and updates about classes and friends. Every time he smiled, that dimple appeared, I pretended not to stare at.
When our food came, he leaned back, stretching his arm across the booth with that relaxed confidence that always made me a little nervous.
âSo,â he said, drawing out the word, âyou know the team still wonât shut up about that kiss, right?â
I choke mid sip of my milkshake with a laugh. âWhat?â
He chuckled, eyes sparkling with mischief. âYeah. Every practice, man. âCam, my boy out here getting movie moments!â âWhenâs the wedding, bro?â Itâs nonstop.â
I covered my face with my hand, groaning. âOh my God. they're so stupid.â
âNah,â he said, grinning, âI told them it wasnât like that.â
I peeked at him through my fingers. âOh, really?â
âYeah,â he continued, leaning in, resting his elbows on the table, voice dropping just enough to make my pulse skip. âTold them Iâd need another kiss before I could give âem any updates.â
I raised an eyebrow, pretending to be unimpressed even as my stomach flipped. âBold of you to assume youâre getting another one.â
He grinned wider, clearly enjoying this. âSo I gotta earn it, huh?â
âExactly.â I smirked, stealing one of his fries. âYou donât just get free refills around here.â
He laughed, shaking his head. âBet. Challenge accepted, But donât be surprised when I have you wanting more.â
I already do âoh yeah?, weâll seeâ
The air between us shifted still light, still teasing, but charged now. His gaze lingered on me a moment longer than it should have, and suddenly, the noise of the diner felt far away.
We both looked away at the same time, pretending to focus on our food, grinning like idiots.
To break the tension, I took a sip of my shake and said, âOh,speaking of your teammates, your fratâs throwing that big Halloween party next friday, right? Damn no invite?â
âYeah,â he said, eyes lighting up. âActually, I was gonna ask you about that.â
I tilted my head, faking curiosity. âAsk me what?â
He leaned forward on his elbows, that playful smile creeping back. âTo go with me .Obviously.â
I blinked, caught off guard, then laughed. âOh, obviously?â
âYeah,â he said with mock seriousness. â Your My Girl of course youâd go with meâ
I grinned, shaking my head.â Your girl? Who said dat??â
âMe.â his tone serious with a hint of playfulness â You act like you didnât enjoy it.â
I smirked, leaning back. âNever said I didnât. But, Donât get too ahead of yourself we arenât dating yetâ
âYet.â he repeats with emphasis
My cheeks warmed, but I held his gaze. âWell⊠if youâre lucky, maybe Iâll consider it.â
He pointed at me, that grin never fading. âYou will.â
The rest of dinner passed in a blur of laughter and small talk that kept looping back to smiles and glances that lingered just a little too long.
From there, the conversation softened stories about childhood, little things weâd missed in that week of silence. Time slipped by unnoticed until we realized the diner was nearly empty.
When we finally stepped outside, the air was cooler, the neon sign above the door buzzing faintly. Without saying anything, Cameron reached for my hand again. His fingers brushed mine once, twice like he was giving me the choice before curling around them. I didnât pull away.
The walk back to my dorm was quiet in that easy, movie-ending kind of way leaves rustling overhead, streetlights stretching our shadows side by side.
Every so often, our shoulders bumped, and heâd glance down at me with that same teasing smile, like he was still thinking about that kiss.
When we reached my building, I slowed to a stop. âThanks for the food,â I pause âand the hoodie.â
âYou can keep it,â he said. âConsider it a down payment on that second kiss.â
I laughed, shaking my head. âDown payment? Youâre ridiculous.â
âMaybe,â he said, stepping a little closer, âbut Iâm serious about earning it.â
âThen I guess weâll see,â I said, smiling up at him, heart racing.
He grinned slowly, sure, confident. âCanât wait to cash in.â
I rolled my eyes, but my heart was already doing that fluttery thing again. âSmooth,â I teased.
He laughed, rubbing the back of his neck. âWhat can I say? I got my moments.â
For a second, neither of us moved just the quiet hum of campus at night between us. Then he took a step closer, his voice softer now testing his luck. âGoodbye kiss on the cheek?â
I smiled, biting back a laugh. âFine Cameron.â pretending to be irritated as I pull him down and plant a peck on his cheek.
He grinned wider, âbye gorgeous .â he mumbled as he brought the hand he was holding up to his mouth and kissed it before jogging backwards with a playful finger flutter.

The rest of the week passed in little stolen moments, quick hellos between classes, shared coffee runs, and study breaks that lasted longer than they shouldâve.
Monday, he found me in the library, balancing a stack of books and muttering about deadlines. He swooped in like it was some heroic act to carry them, grinning the whole way.
âSee? Iâm dependable, perfect boyfriend material â he said, nudging me with his elbow.
âDependably annoying,â I shot back, but I couldnât stop smiling.
Tuesday, we ran into each other at the student café before practice . He claimed he was definitely not following me, even though we somehow ended up sharing a muffin and talking until my latte went cold. Practice was spent with us eyeing each other from across the field.
Wednesday night, a group study session turned into us passing notes like middle schoolers while everyone else actually worked. His last one just said: You still owe me that second kiss.
Iâd drawn a dramatic eye-roll emoji in reply and tossed it back at him, pretending my cheeks werenât on fire.
By Thursday afternoon, my phone buzzed during my lecture .
Cameron đ:
So⊠tomorrow night. You still good for our date?
You :
Still good. You got a plan?
Cameron đ:
Yepđ Food, music , me and you, Dress up for me , you always look good thođ
You:
Ik I do baby , you sure you ainât gonna fuck anything up?
A pause, then
Cameron đ:
You wound me, gorgeous. đ Anyway, what about next Friday ? You being my date to the Halloween party?
You:
maybeee, Depends on what costume you wear.
Cameron đ:
we go in matching costumes.
You :
Oh no. That sounds dangerous.
Cameron đ:
Dangerous ? nah fun. We can be princess Tiana and prince Naveen?I know you love that movie.
You:
I think I love you.
three dots appear and disappear repeatedly for a moment. then completely before he responded.
Cameron đ:
I know you dođ
You:
Hmm⊠maybe. not to sure now
Cameron đ:
Thatâs not a no.
I smiled down at my phone, shaking my head. He was ridiculous. Charming. Persistent. And I couldnât wait for tomorrow.
⊠. ăâș ă . ⊠. ăâș ă . âŠ
Getting ready was stressful , as much as I want to believe that I am not dressing up for him but because weâre going somewhere nice I know thatâs not true.
By the time I finished my makeup, the butterflies in my stomach had gone from gentle flutters to full-on gymnastics. My roommate peeked into my room and immediately let out a loud whistle.
âOkay, girl, I see you,â my roommate said, stopping dead in the doorway like sheâd just walked in on a movie premiere.âYou look goodâ
I turned toward the mirror, checking my earrings even though Iâd been done for the past ten minutes. âYou think so?â I asked, already smirking.
âThink so?â she scoffed, stepping into the room. âPlease. You look like you just walked out of a music video. Cameronâs gonna pass out the second he sees you.â
I gave her a slow spin, grinning at my reflection. âHe betterâ I said, dragging the words out just to mess with her. âI do look good, huh?â
She gasped dramatically, clutching her chest. âNot you knowing it! Okay, confidence!.â
I laughed, striking a fake pose in the mirror. âI mean, what can I say? Might as well give him a little something to think about.â
âOh, heâs gonna be thinking about a lot,â she said, wagging her eyebrows. âAnd maybe tonightâs the night you stop making him wait for that second kiss.â
I pretended to think about it, then winked at her through the mirror. âMaybe. Guess it depends on how good he looks.â
She threw her hands up, laughing. âGirl you already know heâs gonna put that shit on trying to impress you.please you just wanna be difficult â
âI try,â I said with a grin, grabbing my bag and heading for the door.
she teased. âAnyway, tell lover boy I said hi. And maybe donât make him wait another week for that second kiss.â
âGet out,â I said, laughing as she ducked out of my room still giggling.
A text buzzed just as I slipped on my shoes.
Cameron đ:
Outside đ
I peeked out my window, and there he was, leaning against his car like heâd been ripped straight from a movie scene. Wearing all black , chain catching the streetlight, that same easy confidence radiating off him.
I took one last look in the mirror, whispered a quick âdonât act weird,â and headed out.
âWow,â he said when I stepped outside, eyes trailing from my shoes to my hair. âYou tryna make me forget how to breathe?â he mumbled as he leaned to give me a quick side hug.
I laughed, heat creeping up my neck. âYouâre dramatic. Got you hair cut? It looks goodâ
âthank youâ he said, voice low as his eyes continued roaming me , opening the passenger door for me. â and nah Iâm just honest.â
We didnât need to talk. The silence between us was easy, full of soft music, shared glances, and the weight of his hand resting in mine. My thumb kept tracing the back of his palm, like maybe if I stopped, the moment would break. Every time our eyes met, we couldnât help but smile.
âSo where are we going?â I asked, turning toward him as the city lights blurred past.
He grinned, one hand resting on the wheel. âItâs a surprise.â
âYou and these surprises,â I said, rolling my eyes. âShould I be scared?â
âNah,â he said, glancing at me with that smug little half-smile. âExcited maybe, but not scared.â
When he finally pulled into the parking lot, I blinked. The sign above the door glowed in soft gold script â La Vinaâ the kind of restaurant people posted about on Instagram with candlelight and dessert shots.
My jaw dropped a little. âYouâre kidding. This place? Cameron, this is really expensive.â
He killed the engine, grinning. âYeah, I figured we could step it up from fries and milkshakes, you know? You deserve a little fancy.â
I turned toward him, pretending to act unimpressed even though my heart was doing somersaults. âYou trying to spoil me already?â
He shrugged, eyes sparkling. âMaybe I just like seeing you smile.â
⊠. ăâș ă . ⊠. ăâș ă . âŠ
Inside, the lighting was low and warm , candles flickering between polished silverware, soft jazz humming from hidden speakers. The hostess led us to a small table by the window, overlooking the street below. Everything about it felt cinematic.
Cameron sat across from me, elbows resting lightly on the table, and for a moment, we just looked at each other, that same silent pull between us neither of us knew what to do with.
âYou clean up nice,â I said, breaking the quiet. reaching over to caresses his arm that looked ridiculously good in his black turtleneck.
He chuckled, running a hand over his jaw. âYou think so?â
âI know so,â I said, smirking. âDonât act like you didnât plan this whole thing just to show off.â
He laughed, shaking his head. âNah, I planned it to impress you. Showing offâs just a bonus.â
The waiter came by, took our order, and the conversation flowed easier after that stories about classes, dumb campus gossip, his teammates roasting each other. He had a way of talking that made everything sound funny, even when it shouldnât have been.
Dinner came , pasta for me, steak for him and for a while, the world outside just⊠faded. Cameron insisting on taking pictures of me before we ate.
Between bites, between jokes, there were moments where the laughter lingered too long, where our knees brushed under the table and neither of us moved away.
When the plates were cleared and the candle had burned halfway down, the quiet returned. Not awkward ,just full.
Cameron leaned back, his eyes finding mine. âYou know,â he said softly, âI really have liked you for a long time.â
My breath caught. For a second, I didnât know what to say. The restaurant noise faded the clinking glasses, the soft music all of it blurred until it was just him.
âYeah,â I said finally, my voice lower than I expected. âI Noticed .â
He smiled, but it was different this time slower, warmer. The kind that made my chest ache a little. He reached across the table, his fingers brushing mine.
He let out a small laugh, shaking his head. âHonestly, I think it started back when youâd walk past me between classes. Iâd try not to look, but I always did. Then watching you at practice⊠you probably never noticed, but I couldnât look away. You just-â he paused, eyes flicking down, then back up.
âYou light up everything around you without even trying.â
The words hung there, trembling between us.
âGod, I used to tell myself it was just because youâre beautiful. And you are,â he said, a small smile curving his mouth.
âBut itâs more than that. Itâs the way you laugh, how you treat people, how you make everything feel easier just by being there. I couldnât stop thinking about you, no matter how much I tried.â
My heart thudded in my chest as I looked down at my hands, smiling, trying to calm the rush of warmth flooding through me.
âThatâs very sweet⊠I-â
I was cut off when our server appeared, a wide grin on her face as she carefully set a small plate down in front of me.
It was a perfectly plated chocolate dessert a cookie surrounded by a scoop of melting vanilla ice cream, drizzled with glossy chocolate sauce. But it wasnât the dessert that made my breath catch. Written in looping chocolate across the plate were the words:
âWill you be my girlfriend?â
I blinked, speechless, before glancing up at him. His eyes were soft, nervous, hopeful.
âI know itâs cheesy,â he said, rubbing the back of his neck, âbut I figured if I was going to ask, it should be as sweet as you.â
I laughed a small, breathless sound , before shaking my head in disbelief.
âI donât think it's cheesy,â I said, grinning. âBut yes. Iâd love to be your girlfriend â
His relief came out as a laugh, and as our fingers brushed across the table, I could swear even the chocolate script shimmered a little brighter.
â This is so cute I gotta take a picâ I squeal excitedly snapping multiple photos of the plate as he chuckles watching me, giving me his hand to include in the pictures, one of us holding hands next to the plate.
one of him looking away with the plate in front of him. The pictures felt endless but eventually I settled on the perfect one and posted it on instagram to âLover Girlâ by megan thee stallion .
When he opened his phone to repost the story I caught sight of his lockscreen.
The picture of us kissing on the field.
I smiled to myself quietly as we finally ate the dessert, he paid and we left. deciding to take a walk and spend more time together .
We walked through the downtown part of the city. away from campus and everyone we knew. Just us talking , hands intertwined , the world around us blurred into flashing lights and soft hums of passing cars.
⊠. ăâș ă . ⊠. ăâș ă . âŠ
Eventually, as the sun dipped below the skyline and the air turned crisp, I began to shiver. Weâd stopped on a bridge overlooking the river, the water glimmering with the last streaks of sunset. He noticed instantly.
Without a word, he wrapped his arms around me from behind, pulling me into his warmth. I turned in his hold, looking up at him. Our eyes met his soft and searching, mine flickering from his eyes to his lips.
The world seemed to still for a moment, the sound of the river below, the faint city buzz, even the chillâŠall fading away.
Then, slowly, we leaned in.
Our lips met in a gentle, nervous kiss that melted into something softer, deeper. His hand slid up to cup my cheek as I rested a hand against his chest, feeling his heartbeat race under my palm. It was warm, slow, and perfect, like the city lights had dimmed just for us.
When we finally pulled away, we both laughed quietly, forehead to forehead, breath visible in the cold.
âOkay, itâs freezing,â I said with a giggle.
He grinned, draping his jacket over my shoulders before taking my hand again. âYeah letâs head backâ
We walked back together under the streetlights, sharing random jokes, bumping shoulders, stealing tiny kisses whenever we stopped at crosswalks. By the time we reached my door, the chill didnât even bother me anymore.
On Sunday , He showed up outside my dorm at 8 a.m. with a paper bag and a coffee carrier. âBreakfast delivery for my favorite girl,â he said, handing me my exact order from the campus cafĂ© still warm.
We sat on the library steps, sharing a blueberry muffin and talking about our classes while the campus slowly came to life around us. When I teased him about being too sweet, he just shrugged. âGotta start the week off right.â
Monday, Practice ran late for both of us, but we ended up meeting at the bleachers once everyone else had left. The field lights cast a soft glow, and our hair was still damp with sweat. We talked for a bit, laughing about how tired we were, and then he leaned in and kissed me quiet, lingering, the kind of kiss that made me forget how exhausted I felt. We sat there for a while, wrapped in his hoodie,
Tuesday , He helped me study at the student union, even though I knew he had his own work. Halfway through, he started doodling in the margins of my notebook tiny hearts and terrible sketches of us as stick figures. I tried to act annoyed, but I couldnât stop smiling. When I got up to grab snacks, he replaced my water bottle with a caramel latte and said, âYou study better when youâre bribed.â
Wednesday , We had a movie night in his room, some random horror movie that neither of us paid full attention to because we kept talking over it, laughing, and throwing popcorn at each other. I ended up falling asleep with my head on his shoulder, and when I woke up, the movie had ended, and he was just quietly scrolling on his phone, one arm still around me.
Thursday, He walked me to class even though his was across campus, just because. Between periods, he sent me photos of his notes, captioned with random compliments like âCanât focus, youâre too pretty.â Later, we met up for dinner off-campus and spent half the meal talking about our costumes for the party.
We decided to be Princess and the frog after he brought it up. It really has always been my favorite movie. everything came yesterday and itâs honestly so cute.
Friday , Halloween night has finally rolled around, me and my friends decided to walk to the frat house as it wasnât too far from our dorm, Cameron was upset that I didnât wanna get ready at the frat with him so we could enter together.. boy bye Iâm not getting ready at a frat house!! I couldnât help but think to myself as I got dressed.
By the time we got to the Alpha house, you could feel the bass from halfway down the block. The whole street was alive with laughter, camera flashes, the smell of sweet punch and weed drifting into the cool October air. Orange and purple lights pulsed from the windows, and fake cobwebs were stretched across the porch railings.
A huge inflatable skeleton with gold sunglasses leaned against the steps, and every few seconds someone would yell, âA-Phi!â only to be met with a deep, proud chorus of âA-PHI-A!â in return.
Cameron met us at the end of the block, squeezed my hand, grinning as we stepped up the porch. âReady, Princess Tiana?â
I gave a playful curtsy, my green dress swishing around my legs, the tiny tiara on my head sparkling under the porch light. âAlways, Prince Naveen.â
He laughed that low, warm sound Iâd grown to love and pulled open the door. Me and my friends got in free of course .
Inside was chaos in the best way. Music blaring, bodies moving, lights flashing. The Alphas always threw the biggest parties on campus, but this one? It looked like half the university had shown up. Every inch of the house was alive people in costumes packed shoulder to shoulder, dancing, shouting lyrics, laughing.
The living room was a sea of color: angels with LED halos, fairies with glittering wings, cowboys, villains, and even a couple of other Disney pairs though none as coordinated as us.
The DJ was mixing trap with R&B and throwing in nostalgic hits that made everyone scream the words like theyâd been waiting all week.
We slipped through the crowd, Cameron greeting people left and right, dap after dap. He had on a perfectly fitted green jacket with gold trim , a modern take on Prince Naveenâs outfit and every few minutes someone would stop us, saying, âAyy, yâall killed that costume!â or âThatâs goals right there!â
We ended up by the kitchen, where the counters were covered in candy bowls, cups, and a massive punch labeled âSwamp Juice.â The pumpkin on the table had been carved into the Alpha symbol, lit from within and flickering like it was alive.
Cameron handed me a cup, smirking. âItâs only right the Princess of the Bayou gets the first taste.â
I sipped, made a face. âTastes like Jolly Ranchers and regret.â
He laughed, slinging an arm around my waist. âPerfect combination for Halloween.â
Before I could come up with a comeback, the beat switched that familiar bass line of âSet It Offâ dropped and instantly the energy changed.
The crowd started cheering, parting like a wave. Phones went up, lights switched to gold, and that unmistakable Alpha energy filled the room.
The brothers formed up as a whistle blew all in their costumes, Cameron near the front their movements sharp, unified, confident. When they started strolling, the room erupted.
The stomp of their boots hit the floor in perfect rhythm, the gold glinting under the lights, the air vibrating with shouts and claps. Every step had precision, power, pride a tradition that ran deeper than the party, deeper than the night. The crowd was hype, cheering, clapping, recording.
The Deltas and AKAâs near the front were the loudest, hyping them up with every move. âGo âhead, Bruh!â âICE COLD!â The Alphas answered in unison, voices booming back: âA-PHI!â
Cameron caught my eye mid-stroll and shot me a grinx just a flash of mischief before he slid right back into formation, smooth as ever.
âWHO YOU WITH?â He called out eyecontact unwavering
âICE!!!â I shout back in unison with everyone else at the party
When the music ended, the crowd exploded. People clapped, yelled, and chanted. Someone shouted, âThatâs how you do it!â and the DJ laughed into the mic before switching tracks again this time to â Freak Hoeâ immediately everyone became 10X louder.
Cameron made his way back through the crowd, still catching his breath, the gold trim of his jacket shimmering under the strobe lights. âDid I impress the princess?â he teased, slipping an arm around my waist.
I looked up at him, pretending to think. âHmm. Maybe a little.â
He leaned down until his lips brushed my ear. âJust a little?â
The grin on my face gave me away before I could answer. The music shifted again, âMy girl â by mindless behavior started playing , and we started to sway, my hands resting on his shoulders, his on my waist.
Cameron sang along â My girl my girl she loves meeeâ.
Around us, people were still laughing, talking, dancing wings brushing, capes flowing, glow sticks swinging in the dark.
For a second, the world felt small, just us, the music, the flicker of lights across his face.
Outside, the porch was lined with orange string lights and fake gravestones. A group of people roasted marshmallows over a small fire pit, their laughter drifting through the crisp night air.
When we finally stepped out for a breather, Cameron draped his coat over my shoulders again, the satin from my dress peeking out beneath it.
âBest Halloween ever?â he asked softly, his hand brushing mine.
I smiled, tilting my head up to meet his gaze. âBest everything ever.â
He leaned down and kissed me, slow and sweet the kind of kiss that tasted like punch, laughter, and promise.
And under the flickering orange lights, with the music still pulsing faintly behind us, I thought about how wild it was that just a week ago, we werenât even official. Now, here we were.
Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen, caught somewhere between a fairytale and real life.

⊠. ăâș ă . ⊠. ăâș ă . âŠ
You:

Cameron đ:
we go in matching costumes.
You :

Jealous - Cameron Cade
warnings : Arguing, Weed , Party , Jealousy ofc
W/C 3k Ish
⊠. ăâș ă . ⊠. ăâș ă . âŠ
Cameron isnât the jealous type.
Usually.
But tonight, itâs crawling under his skin. He leans back against the wall , blunt between his fingers, eyes fixed on you from across the crowded room.
Youâre laughing at something some random guy said tilting your head, smacking his arm. Nothing over the top, nothing technically wrong. But itâs enough to make Cameronâs jaw clench.
He already had a week from hell. First the attack that left him with his head injury , then blowing his shot at the combine, one bad throw, one bad impression, and now the scouts are second-guessing him. Everything feels like itâs unraveling.
And now this.
The one person who couldâve made tonight easier is you and youâve barely even looked at him. barely a glance. a smile as you slid past him, just drifting through the room like heâs not even there.
He exhales hard through his nose and brings the blunt to his lips, inhaling slowly , trying to take the edge off. It doesnât help.
His eyes flick back to you again. Youâre still talking to the guy. Still laughing. He wonders if youâre doing it on purpose.
You know how to push his buttons. You know exactly how to act when you want to get a reaction. And maybe thatâs what this is. A test. A game. Or maybe you just donât care tonight.
Either way, it burns.
The weight of the week, the pressure, the ache in his head, and now you , off in your own little world while he sits there stewing. It all simmers in his chest, hot and bitter.
âYo,â his brother Drew says, snapping his fingers in front of Cameronâs face. âYou good?â
Cameron blinks, dragging his gaze away from you like pulling out of a trance. He barely realizes how long heâs been staring.
he mutters, âgetcho fingers out my faceâ handing the blunt back. âIâm straight.â
But heâs not. And both of them know it.
âAight, you gonâ stare her face off or what?â Drew teases, bumping Cameronâs shoulder with a grin.
Cameron doesnât laugh. Doesnât even smirk. He just drags his eyes back to his brother, jaw tight.
âShut upâ he mutters, voice low.
But Drewâs already clocked the way Cameronâs been glaring across the room like heâs about to snap. âDamn, nigga. You really pressed over that?â
Cameron doesnât answer. Heâs already looking at you again. Still with that same guy. Still laughing, like whatever he said was the funniest thing youâve ever heard.
âYou know sheâs all about you, chill,â Drew says, trying to reel him back in. His voice is calm, but thereâs a note of warning in it.
Drew loves you like a little sister, you practically are one to him. Heâs always been in your corner, always rooting for you and Cam to work.
He knows how much you mean to his brother, he also knows how ugly it could get if Cameron lets his temper run the show tonight.
But Cameronâs barely listening.
His fingers twitch at his side, passing the blunt back to Drew. His eyes are still locked on you, standing there with that guy talking, smiling, looking completely unbothered.
Every second you stay in that conversation adds another brick to the weight already pressing down on him. Itâs not just irritation anymore. Itâs something heavier, something sharp that digs in deeper the longer he watches.
He doesnât want to make a scene. Doesnât want to be that guy.
But he will.
Hell, he doesnât even want to care this much.
But he does.
And heâs done sitting still.
Without another word, he stands, brushing past Drew.
âYo-Cam-â Drew tries to stop him.
Cam ignores him.
Each step across the room feels heavier, slower, but the heat under his skin keeps him moving. His eyes are locked on you now, and he doesnât even bother hiding the look on his face.
You still havenât seen him coming. Youâre too busy wrapped up talking to the guy as if Cameron didnât exist .

~Y/N POV~
I felt him before I saw him, his hand slipping around my waist. I didnât panic; the familiar scent of his cologne told me exactly who it was.
âHi, baby,â I said, smiling warmly turning toward him, completely unaware of the storm brewing in his mind .
He didnât answer. His gaze was locked on the guy I had been talking to. Noticing his lack of response I followed his eyes seeing where he was looking .
âOh, baby, this is Jay-â
I didnât even get to finish his name before my boyfriendâs hand tightened slightly around my waist. Not rough, but firm. Purposeful. Without a word, he began guiding me away from the conversation, his grip leaving no room for argument.
âExcuse us, Zay ,â he said over his shoulder, his voice calm but sharp, each word clipped with restrained tension. âI need to talk to my girl.â
He didnât have to emphasize the word âmyâ the way he did but he did anyway.
I barely had time to process it as he weaved me through the crowd, past clusters of partygoers laughing over shots . The mansion was buzzing with energy music pulsing from hidden speakers, dark lights spilling from inside the walls , the air thick with perfume and weed.
He didnât stop until you reached a hallway lined with tall doors. He chose one without hesitation, opened it, and tugged you gently but urgently inside.
It was a huge bathroom, dimly lit. The noise from the party dulled behind the heavy door as it clicked shut.
Only then did he let go, turning to face you with that same storm still brewing in his eyes.
âBaby, that was rude. You didnât even let me finish introduc-â
âWhatâs rude is you ignoring me all night,â he snapped, his voice slicing through mine like a blade. âToo busy talking to some random dude instead of your own boyfriend!â
âFirst of all,â I said sharply, planting my feet, âdonât cut me off. I was speaking.â
My voice was firmer now, no softness left.
âSecond, I wasnât ignoring you. You were overwhelmed earlier at the combine, and everyone was crowding you, so I was trying to give you space. You needed a minute, and I respected that!â
His jaw clenched. He looked away, like he was trying to control his reaction, but I didnât let up.
âAnd third of all,â I said, stepping in closer, âyou mustâve forgotten that I told you my cousin was visiting this weekend. I told you I was bringing him out tonight. So excuse me for talking to someone Iâve known since before I could even walk, especially when he doesnât know anyone else here.â
I moved to step around him, ready to be done, but he reached out and lightly grabbed my hand.
âWai-â
I pulled away, sharp. âNo, because what are you actually mad about, huh? That I was laughing? Talking to another man? Youâve barely said two words to me since we got here!â
âIâve barely said two words because youâve been locked in with him since we walked through the damn door,â he shot back, his voice low but heated. âYou didnât even look at me.â
âDonât do that,â I said, my voice rising, frustration bubbling up. âIâve been trying all night. Youâve been tense, distant, and now suddenly Iâm the villain because I tried to keep my cousin company?â
He blinked. ââŠYour what?â
I stared at him, stunned. âMy cousin, Cam. Jay, The same Jay I told you was visiting. The one I said I was bringing to the party.â
Silence fell between us like a crash. My leg starting to bounce on my heel as frustration continues to build up inside me.
His shoulders slumped almost immediately, all that fire fading in an instant. âShit,â he muttered, dragging a hand down his face. âI thought-â
âYeah, I know what you thought,â I cut in, shaking my head. âYou jumped to conclusions, embarrassed me, and didnât even give me the chance to explain.â
I stepped back.
âAnd what hurts the most?â I added, quieter now. âIs that you really thought Iâd disrespect you like that? Like you donât know me at all.â
He tried to say something, but I held up a hand.
âI need a minute away from you ,â I said, turning to walk away. âDonât follow me.â
I continue around him, brushing past with every intention of leaving the conversation behind.
âBaby, wai-â
The door slammed shut behind me before he could finish his sentence. I pushed my way through the crowd, scanning the room for Jay, my cousin who came all the way up here just to see me.
Heâs stressed, I get it, I thought, still fuming, but lashing out at me over something he didnât even have the full context for? Thatâs crazy. Got me fucked up.
I finally spotted Jay near the bar, chatting with a Drew.
âJay!â I called over the music as I approached. âSorry about that. Letâs go, Iâm irritated and ready to leave,â I muttered, snatching my purse from the table he was leaning on.
âYou good , sis?â âYou good, cus?â Jay and drew asked in sync.
Concern in their voices . But their words barely registered because just then, Cam appeared in front of me.
âBaby, wait. Iâm sorry. I was wrong-â
He stopped mid-sentence and stepped around me, walking up to Jay instead.
âHey man, Iâm sorry I jumped to conclusi-â
Jay cut him off with a laugh.
âDamn, cus⊠he really is just as nice as you said.â Jay chuckled, eyes glancing between the two of us.
âItâs all good,â he said, flashing Cam a grin. âGood genes run in the family. Iâd be trippinâ too if I saw someone as handsome as me talking to my girl.â
I rolled my eyes, but couldnât help the small laugh that slipped out. Leave it to Jay to lighten the mood.
âFor real though,â he continued, resting his arm on the table casually, âIâm chillinâ. Yâall donât have to leave on my account. Go talk to your boyfriend, cus.â
I gave him a grateful look, squeezing his shoulder before turning to Cam. He met my eyes, sheepish but hopeful.
âCome on,â I said softly, nodding toward the back of the house. âLetâs talk somewhere quieter.â
He followed without a word, just a slight nod as we walked through the crowd, his tall frame towering over me as he followed me.

The bass from the music faded with each step until we reached a tucked-away lounge near the back of the mansion. It was quiet dim lighting, plush couches, and thankfully, no one else was around.
I dropped my purse onto the couch with a sigh as I sat and crossed my arms, turning to face him.
âSoâŠâ I began, raising an eyebrow. âWanna try that conversation again?â
Cam gave me a small, crooked smile.
âYeah, Iâm sorry for losing my temper,â he said quietly. âYou didnât do anything wrong, and it wasnât fair for me to take my anger out on you like that.â
He stepped closer, sinking down onto the couch beside me. Turning his body to face me, he searched for my eyes, but I stayed facing forward, lifting my chin slightly just to look away.
âAndâŠâ I prompted, not looking at him.
He exhaled. âAnd for not trusting you. I know youâd never cheat on me. Itâs just hard sometimes. Knowing how many guys want you, how fast theyâd try to take you from me if they could.â
âYou think I donât feel the same way?â I cut in, finally turning toward him. âYouâve got hundreds of girls in your DMs, girls coming up to you all the time asking for pictures, trying to touch your arms. Even tonight- Iâve seen at least three different girls flirting with you. But Iâve never snapped at you over it.â
As I listed them off, I watched his face twist with guilt.
âThose girls donât matter,â he said quickly. âYou know that.â
âExactly,â I replied softly. âI do know that. And thatâs why I donât go picking fights about it.â
He nodded slowly. âYouâre right, baby. Itâs not even that Iâm really upset about tonight-â
âI know,â I said gently, meeting his gaze. âYouâre just⊠overwhelmed. With everything thatâs been going on.â
He sighed, shoulders dropping as I reached up to cup his jaw. His arm slid around my shoulders, pulling me closer as he nodded, a guilty little pout tugging at his lips.
Big baby, I thought, a smile ghosting across my face as I leaned in.
âJust donât-â *kiss* âlet-â *kiss* âit-â *kiss* âhappen-âkiss kiss kiss* * âAgain,â I mumbled against his lips, the words breaking apart between soft, scattered kisses.
âI wonât âhe whispered as he grinned against my lips, his dimple popping out as he leaned in, stealing another kiss, feeling all tension and stress leaving his body.
This is all Cameron wanted. To forget about all the things going wrong and be with his girl.
âcmon, â I say breaking the kisses âlets go enjoy the party â
âIâm already enjoying myself â Camâs voice slurred as he dove back into my lips, guiding me to lean back onto the couch as he pulled my legs to rest over his.
We continued to kiss until Drew and jay came from nowhere, as loud as ever, ruining the mood â CAM!!!!!â Drewâs voice made me jump, pushing Him off me as if we were kids being caught.
âMAN, WHAT!?â Cam didnât even try to hide his irritation. He was finally finding some peace and here comes chaos knocking.
Drew sucked his teeth and tossed Cam his phone.
âItâs your fucking agent,â he muttered under his breath, shaking his head.
Cam immediately sat up straight, his hand gently sliding to my lower back, guiding me up with him.
âGiv-give me a second, baby,â he said quickly before getting up and disappearing into the nearby bathroom.
âCan you call an ambulance?â Drewâs voice pulled me back to reality.
âWhat? Why??â I turned to him, confused.
âI think I pulled my hammy.â He winced, rubbing his leg.
I rolled my eyes. âMan, you need to be pulling bitches, not your hamstrings.â
Jay snorted. âThatâs wild.â
I got up and started toward the bathroom, but Drewâs voice stopped me mid-step.
âShould we give him space?â
âNah, I tried that already and got yelled at,â I said dryly. âCâmon.â
⊠. ăâș ă . ⊠. ăâș ă . âŠ
As we stepped in, Cam was fully clothed, laying back in the bathtub like it was a therapy session.
Boy, you really in these peopleâs tub fully clothed like you pay rent, I thought, smirking when our eyes met.
He looked⊠excited. Hopefully, it was good news.
âOh, it has to be good news,â Drew blurted, loud and obvious.
Drew, I love you, but sometimes itâs okay to shut up, I thought.
Camâs voice broke through the tension.
âNo-yeah. Yeah, Iâm in.â
And just like that, he hung up.
âWell??â I asked, barely able to contain myself.
Cam jumped up from the tub, eyes lit up.
âWEâRE GOING TO THE FUCKING LEAGUE!!!â
The room exploded Drew and Jay shouted in celebration, and I didnât even think. I ran straight into his arms, jumping up and wrapping my legs around his waist as he caught me with ease, spinning us both in a blur of laughter and adrenaline.
âLETâS FUCKING GOOOO!!â
Our cheers echoed through the quiet corners of the house like a secret celebration the world hadnât caught up to yet.
I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him into a deep, breathless kiss. And when we finally broke apart, I smiled against his lips.
âI told you it would work out.â
