“Y/N!!! It’s time to get up” a melodic voice called out to me,
“urgh “ Is the only response I muster out
“Today’s a big day honey, we must get you ready !”
“Good Morning Iris,” I yawn. “It’s only 5 am! Isn’t it too early? The sky isn’t even awake!” I hate mornings.
“You have a big day ahead of you dear , we have a lot to do! Starting with plucking those eyebrows.” ok rude.
But she is right… Today is a big day! The gala, the eclipse. Eeee this is gonna be so amazing!!
My dreams of leaving the garden are finally coming true. The opportunity to see and experience new things is being presented to me and nothing , not even my mother can stop it! Thanks to direct orders from Zeus himself.
I’m still full of disbelief, The gala is being held in celebration of the Total Golden Eclipse , something that only happens once a millennium. the most monumental eclipse there is.
Helios, the god of sun , sight and sacred guardian of oaths, draws his light and spreads it to all of the realms, reaching even the deepest hidden corners . The underworld , the sea , the depths of tartarus can see the glimmers faintly.
Even the human realm gets a glimpse through the veil that keeps all that is “mythical “ hidden .
And as he spreads the light. Olympus is left in the shadows all around it is overtaken by darkness like no other . The light that is held at the heart of the heavens is spread everywhere , leaving a void so deep some say you can see beyond this realm deep into the universe.
unlike any darkness you have ever seen. The sun's light is entirely void from olympus . You will see a darkness unlike any other and in that ,some say your fate
only few are fortunate enough to see this , outside of Olympus you’ll receive a blinding light , the flash so intense you can't look into the sky
In the human realm . The effects are damaging , temperatures surge, ice caps melt . The ozone layer suffers wounds that take years to mend. It’s almost unbelievable that a brief moment can do so much damage.
It will be my first time seeing it, the anticipation claws at me, I can hardly wait!
Yet … Something feels off
Why has Zeus summoned every god? In the past it was just him, his wife ,his brothers , and a very few of their children.
Zeus rarely does things without reason.
my intuition is telling me Zeus has ulterior motives … But who am I to question the king, who am I to go against Zeus…I owe him my departure from the garden and perhaps a chance to see what awaits, beyond the light.
“Get out of bed!” Iris's voice boomed, bringing me back from my thoughts getting impatient with me.
“ok ok i'm going” This is gonna be a loooong morning.
As i move to leave my bed and small and skinny box at the foot catches my eye,
I go to open it and a note falls out. Landing on my lap.
It reads “ A small gift for your first evening out, Although your beauty outshines anything i could offer . I hope it adds a touch to elevate what is already radiant.
Love,Iris”
Appreciation swells in my chest as I open the box to reveal a gorgeous necklace with pearls shaped like droplets . The golden links on it are nearly seamless , it will look like the pearls are floating on me but the gold will glisten in the light. It's perfect. I love it.
“ Remember to bow,’ Iris grunts as she teases the comb through a particularly tangled section of my wet hair, ‘and chew with your mouth closed!!” Cora chimed in, peering up at me as she applied polish to my toes.
Seconds feel like hours as endless primping and countless lectures pass , excitement builds up as the moment I can finally leave approaches, Mother should be here any moment .
I gave myself one last look over with a dreamy sigh as I stood in the mirror , my curls swept into an updo with curly bangs framing my face perfectly, a few curly pieces out brushing my neck and shoulders.
The makeup Cora perfected has me glowing , shimmering as the light catches the eyeshadow . Rosy tint on my cheeks, pigment made from crushed flower petals visible but not harsh. My lips shine from the honey gloss lined with cocoa bean paste Cora made to give the outside of my lips a darker color.
And oh the dress… stunning! The warm pink fabric lightens to white at the hem. The low cut back with gold stitched flower detailing that gets caught in the light , adding a touch of luxury to my elegant light and flowing dress.
Golden heels with straps embroidered with tiny flowers that wrap around my calves , Golden bangles and a pearl bracelet adorn my arms and wrists. Pearl droplet earrings to match my necklace Iris left on the edge of my bed .
“Iris” I softly called, drawing her attention to me “ would you help me put on my necklace please?” a small smile adorning my lips.
“Of course my dear” she sang as the sound of her footsteps reached me
As she puts the necklace on me with gentle hands clasping it around me , leaning down to smile at me in the mirror .
“Thank you “ slight tears forming appreciative of the gift she made me. It might not be the most expensive or the most lavish but to me it was the most beautiful necklace I could ever own.
“Stunning” is all she offers as a response while racing to pat dry my eyes.
“Aht ah… can’t ruin this wonderful makeup cora did, she would throw a fit.”
Our laughs rang through the room and for a brief moment everything felt normal , like I had a regular life , like I wasn't about to experience something that would change me forever.
The butterflies in my stomach return as a loud neigh rang from the sky followed by the sound of wings .“Come, now! “ Iris rushes out the door with me scrambling behind her, grabbing my pearl handbag .
My heart is nearly thumping out of my chest as I watch the elegant pegasus drawn carriage fly in. She’s here, It’s time. The golden crested carriage approaches . Two white pegasus with wings so strong they created a breeze so strong I nearly stumbled back .
The carriage has a smooth landing as one of the two footmen step down and open the door for mother to step out . Her gown is all white with a green scarf around her elbows trailing behind her ,a green headpiece that mimics a crown , golden arm cuffs with matching rings , shoes and accessories.
Her intense gaze analyzes me as the three of us tensely stand worried about what she thinks . With a shaky inhale a simple “Hello, Mother” with a tight bow is all I could muster out.
A nod of approval served as a response. One simple gesture that made my shoulders relax a bit and took the breath from my body. “Well done.“ She speaks past me to Cora and Iris as they bow in return, relaxing as well.
“Now come. We mustn't be late” she’s already turning and back up the steps as she says this, i quickly follow taking the hand of the footman stepping into the carriage .
I sat adjacent to my mother as the footmen closed the door behind me. With a deep breath, spearing iris and cora one last glance through the window as they both proudly sent me off with a smile.
“ Have fun” iris mouths to me with a thumbs up.
My heart nearly leapt from my chest as we set off with a thunderous rumble. Having never been in a carriage I was caught off guard. The wheels creek softly as we lurch forward, wheels crunching on leaves and sticks as we build momentum. I looked down to distract myself from how fast we were moving.
The sound of a pegasi’s loud neighing caught my attention and drew my gaze back to the window.
Its powerful muscles tensing as it picks up momentum and its wings begin to flap. The shake of the carriage made my head spin and stomach drop as I felt the carriage ascend from the ground.
As the clouds enveloped my field of vision all I could think of was the countless days spent in the garden, watching the clouds freely pass. Wishing I could be one coming and going as I please. Free to roam the earth and heavens with no restrictions.
We soared high above the earth, the clouds beneath us like a vast and shifting sea. Only clear skies and golden sunlight stretched out in every direction. I leaned back into my seat, inhaling slowly, trying to ground myself.
“I trust you’ll behave yourself tonight,” my mother’s voice broke through the silence, making me flinch.
“Yes, Mother,” I replied, jaw tightening as a familiar knot formed in my stomach.
“Good. I can’t afford any embarrassment tonight. You remember what I told you?”
“Yes, “Stay by your side, don’t eat any pomegranate, and avoid speaking to Hades or Ares.” As I recited what she told me, my stomach began to settle at the nod of approval she offered . The tension in my chest eased just slightly. As we dipped back into the clouds, my stomach did a flip as I felt the descent.
Outside the window, the clouds began to thin once again, revealing Olympus in all of its glory, strong and intimidating. Its towers shimmered like they were spun from sunlight itself, suspended impossibly high above the clouds and ground below . Even from a distance, it radiated authority.
I dug my nails into my palm as the carriage began gradually descending, the anxiety stirring back up as the realization that this was really happening settled, but it was the sight of the divine city that truly made my heart pound.
As we dipped lower, I could make out figures in flowing gowns drifting between floating courtyards, winged steeds tethered to marble columns, and music distant and haunting rising through the air.
I braced myself.
“Back straight,” my mother spoke without looking at me. “Smile, if you must, but speak only when spoken to. And don’t react. This is exactly what they want. To show off, make you feel little and insignificant in comparison . Don’t give them what they want.”
“Yes, Mother,” I said again, quieter this time pondering what she means by “ Don’t react”
The clouds parted fully to reveal the golden landing terrace. A crowd gathered with cameras being held back by what seemed to be security . The scene resembled one of those Hollywood movies Iris showed me.
“Mother, I thought this was a God's only event” I couldn’t even attempt to hide my confusion.
“ Yes , but since it's so unusual for Zeus to invite every god other races have come to catch a glimpse , Nymphs , Centaurs, half bloods and more gather on the outskirts of Olympus since they can’t enter . Broadcasting for social networking, They’ll clear out soon. “
A small nod of acknowledgement is all I can respond with .
The carriage wheels touched down with a soft jolt. Attendants were already waiting, celestial beings dressed in gold and white, their expressions perfectly composed. One stepped forward and opened the carriage door with a graceful bow.
Mother exited first, her every movement effortless and elegant flashing a smug look as cameras flashed, A sensation causing my eyes to burn. I followed, feeling my sandals strike the polished marble with a sound far too loud in my ears. The air here was thinner, quieter, laced with power.
At the front stood a handsome man dressed in a suit that whispered divinity in every thread. The fabric was a dark, smoke-grey wool, so fine it felt like woven from dusk itself, shifting subtly with the light like storm clouds turning in the sky.It fell around him like a robe, draped with grace, yet tailored with the precision of ancient hands.
The lapels were sharp, edged in black satin, catching glints of silver as he moved. His presence made silence seem like a lesser thing. Down the sleeves, where mortal garments might end in mere buttons or trim, there were wings etched in fine silver thread, rising from cuff to elbow. They shimmered faintly, as if not sewn, more summoned, each feather a delicate line of celestial script.
The inner lining of the robe-suit flashed as he bowed, revealing a deep obsidian silk, patterned faintly with constellations, as if the night sky had been captured and tucked inside his garment for safekeeping. No tie, no embellishment beyond what was essential.
A smile with that too-knowing glint in his eyes. Pulled everything together “Demeter,” he greeted smoothly, bowing low. “Always a pleasure. And this must be your daughter.” He paused. His eyes flickered to me, amused and expecting
“Persephone.” I softly finished
“Persephone! who i've heard so much about ” his ecstatic voice boomed making me flinch as he scooped me into a hug .
“ Oh where are my manners!? I’m Lord Hermes God of Herds and Trade the messenger for the Gods” As he introduced himself my heart skips a beat
The Hermes!? I was hugged by the Hermes I've read so many stories about!
My body instinctively bows “ Lord Hermes. It is an honor to meet you “ keeping my eyes at his feet
“ Oh please, Call me Wooyoung ,Hermes is too formal “ he took my hand and placed a kiss on the back of it unexpectedly, Making my heart practically skip a beat from surprise, my eyes darting away looking for something to focus on to distract myself from the warmth creeping onto my face , even if not visible the heat was still the same.
He's very alluring and the smirk on his face lets me know he knows it.
“cute” he murmured, as though to himself as he withdrew his hands from mine . Then offered an arm to my mother, With a swift turn placing himself between us extending his hand back to me. “The others are already assembled.”
He led us past the crowd down the golden carpet .
The crowd erupted in cheers and flashes as who I can only assume is aphrodite stepped from a grand pink with flowers adorned carriage .
The stories didn’t do her justice… she really is beautiful
Wooyoung’s chuckle snaps me out of my thoughts , a subtle smirk playing on his lips.
As we walked through the arching gates of Olympus away from the crowd into the gala where only Gods were permitted , the weight of expectation pressed in from all sides.
The halls were blinding, gilded and echoing, with murals of victories and divine wrath painted overhead.
The sight of the pristine walls , the jewels and shiny statues on display made my eyes widen.
Every step reminded me that I didn’t belong here—not really. I was earth ,seed and growth. They were marble, lightning and eternity.
Whispers started as we passed, eyes trailing after us, assessing, calculating.
“Don’t react,” my mother’s words rang through my head. “This is exactly what they want. To show off, make you feel little and insignificant in comparison . Don’t give them what they want. “
Don’t give them what they want
The memory of her words quickly made me regain my composure. As the sounds of music and chatter became louder Wooyoung released his hold on us with a bow .
“ Go on, I'll be in soon. I have some business to attend to first “ The mischievous look in his eye making me squint . Before we could react he spun on his heel and left.
I watched him disappear into the corridors like a shadow, leaving us at the threshold of the open garden-like ballroom . My mother gave me a subtle nudge, her chin tilted high as she led the way into the glittering heart of the gala.
The marble floor twinkling like diamonds in the sun, stone columns wrapped in vines and chrysanthemum. We stand at the top of a grand staircase overlooking the main floor , with many smaller decks floating around in the clouds.
Gods and Goddesses spread throughout , Far more than I knew even existed. We began our descent down the stairs, my hand clasped together , a sudden overwhelming feeling of being watched shifted the once-lively atmosphere became impossible to ignore.
A chill ran down my spine as I felt the weight of several intense gazes fixed on me. I scanned the room, meeting the eyes of more than a few Gods. Some looked with amusement , others with curiosity they all held their gaze.
But still I must stand tall and hold my head up .I’m pulled from my thoughts as my mother steered me toward a nearby table, where two individuals were already seated.
To the left sat a figure dressed in a soft yellow robe-like suit, its fabric subtly embroidered with intricate musical symbols that shimmered faintly under the light.
On the right, another figure wore a striking deep red suit, rich in color and sharply tailored. Three vacant chairs remained around the table, each marked with a name card mine, my mother's, and Hermes.
A small smile tugged at my lips as I realized he’d be sitting with us. Even though we’d only just met, I felt a strange sense of connection with him. It was comforting to know I’d have someone, besides my mother who felt even slightly familiar.
“Ahh... nice to see you both back here,” my mother spoke first as we approached the table. Both of them stood and made their way around to greet us.
“Always a pleasure,” said the man in the wine-colored suit as both he and his companion offered polite bows. “And who might this be?” His eyes shifted to me, a sly grin playing on his lips.
“Yes, I’d like to know as well,” added the man in the yellow suit, his gaze sweeping over me with interest.
I didn’t need to look at my mother to know she was annoyed, the twitch of her eyebrow and the tightness in her forced smile gave her away, even if she tried to mask it.
I could feel her disapproval, sharp and suffocating. She hated when attention shifted away from her. I wanted to shrink the pressure of her presence , make myself smaller… maybe even disappear entirely. But I was stuck here, trapped in my mother’s shadow.
“Ah yes. This is my daughter, Persephone.” she said, placing pointed emphasis on the word daughter, as if marking her territory and warning them to tread carefully.
“Really? You two don’t look anything alike,” the man in yellow remarked bluntly, eyes raking over me again “Well, it’s wonderful to meet you. I’m Apollo.” He carried on disregarding my mother before she could respond. As he took both of my hands in his, his grip was soft but lingering. “But you can call me Seonghwa,” he added, holding my gaze a moment too long.
Names are a complicated matter here. I’m allowed to use someone’s chosen name, but only with their explicit permission, and that is usually reserved for close companions. Otherwise, it’s all titles and formalities. That’s really all godly names are, in the end titles. Mother, of course, never gives anyone permission to use hers. She holds herself far too highly for that. And no one allows her their chosen names either.
“Ahem.” The man in the wine-colored suit cleared his throat, breaking the tension. He nudged Seonghwa aside slightly, stepping forward with a more composed expression.
“Don’t mind him. It’s just not everyday someone new and as strikingly beautiful as you shows up at one of these events.” His voice was gentler, steadier. “I’m Jongho, also known as Dionysus.” He offered a small, calming smile before turning to pull out my chair. Seonghwa followed suit and did the same for my mother.
Oh my stars... all these Gods..all this attention. From these righteous beings I’d only ever read stories of , people I could only ever dream of meeting is almost too much.
As we sat around the table. I allow my eyes to wander once taking in the scene around me. The Gods, some dancing, some eating, some lounged near the garden doors, caught in hushed conversations as they waited for time to pass. The eclipse was still two hours away, but the gala was already in full swing.
Live music floated through the air, a soft yet vibrant melody that mingled with the clinking of glasses and the murmur of voices. Servants moved gracefully between tables, balancing silver trays with precision. Candlelight flickered across polished marble and gilded gowns, painting the evening in gold and shadow.
“Whatcha looking for, Pretty?”
Wooyoung's voice startled me, bringing my attention back to the table. He sat in his seat next to mine laughing at my startled reaction . When did he get back…
“Oh! Nothing really, just taking in the moment, how long were you there?”
“ Not long, just got here “ he looked me up and down again then chuckled “I really startled you , huh?” I look down and notice I've been gripping the chair . All I could respond with was an awkward laugh.
“So what business did you have to attend to?” I quickly attempted to change the subject..
“Missed me ?” He's such a damn tease. “ I'm kidding, I had to clear out the crowd, can’t have them here when the eclipse happens-” he leans closer, putting his arm around my chair “ can we? “
“ Ahh.. Makes sen-” i was cut off by the sound of a fork hitting glass
“Everyone!” a powerful voice boomed from the top of the grand staircase, slicing through the chatter like a blade. In an instant, the room fell still. Heads turned. Even the string quartet quieted.
“Welcome,” the voice continued, calm yet unmistakably authoritative. Belonging to who I can only assume is the host, Zeus, He stood his presence magnetic , dressed in a sharply tailored suit, his gaze striking.
“Tonight, you are not simply guests at a gala” he said, descending the steps with slow, deliberate precision. “You are witnesses to something... monumental.”
A murmur of agreement rippled through the crowd.
“The eclipse signals more than a celestial event,” he went on. “It marks an alignment.” He paused after each word, his measured pace punctuating the gravity of his message.
“A choice. One you may not even realize you’ve made , until it’s too late.” He let the silence settle, then softened.
“But we’ll get into that later. For now, enjoy yourselves. Don’t be shy.”
Across the table, Jongho exhaled lightly. “He’s always so cryptic.”
“Always hiding a message in there somewhere,” Seonghwa muttered, half to himself.
As the night went on and I was dragged around by wooyoung, despite my protests as my mother would be upset with me for not staying by her , wooyoung led me around and I was introduced to more and more Gods I began to feel at ease. Each introduction, each kind smile or curious glance from the Gods made the air feel a little lighter.
Everyone is much more welcoming than mother made them seem. Perhaps speaking from her own experiences but that's just because she's a bitc- anyway.
As the night wore on, the anxiety over my mother’s disapproval began to fade into the background. My own place in this celestial gathering feels a little more secure. Less like I didn't belong
Meeting Aphrodite and her son Eros or I should say Yeosang as he told me to call him, was definitely remarkable . Their presence radiated an inviting and loving warmth. Grace and kindness unlike any other. Truly the Gods of love and beauty.
Yeosang is dressed in black slacks and wearing a sleeveless top that revealed his sculpted abs. The fabric clung to his form, while dark feathers adorned the shoulders, adding a dramatic flair to his otherwise plain look. But he is still the most eye catching male in the room by far.
And oh Aphrodite… She is draped in shimmering, dark blue silk that flowed like water and caught the light with a golden shine like moonlight dancing on the surface of a midnight lake. The dress clung to her form as if it were her skin, tracing every curve . An off-shoulder neckline that revealed just enough, a silk scarf lay softly around her neck. Gold bangles adorned her wrists, matched by delicate diamond-studded earrings and rings. Elegant , simple and she was breathtaking.
She's curvy, like me. It’s an unexpected, almost comforting surprise. The goddess of beauty doesn’t have a flat stomach or a perfect thigh gap. She has full thighs, and jiggles when she walks , her body moves with a natural, unapologetic softness.
I always imagined her as a thin, slender and sharp freakishly doll-like being , like my mother, like everything I was told I wasn’t. But here she is: curvy, radiant, sexy and effortlessly confident. And she’s stunning.
It felt nice to be around such a lively environment with people chatting, laughing, and dancing. There was a warmth in the air, a sense of ease that I hadn’t felt since we arrived
Currently, I’m caught by Yeosang as he grabs my hand and practically drags me to the main floor, insisting that we dance.
I weakly protest, telling him I don’t know how but he’s already spinning me around with exaggerated flair, grinning like an idiot.
“Come on, I’ll teach you! It’s fun.' he says, and just like that, I’m swept up. It’s impossible to say no to him.
I laugh despite my refusal. The beat picks up, and I let go just a little. We move with the rhythm, slipping into a messy, carefree kind of dance that fits the chaos around us. For a moment, I’m not overthinking. Just moving.
As I’m spun I glance around breath catching slightly as my eyes lock with someone across the room.
He’s standing off to the side of the dance floor. Alone, not dancing, just watching, almost like a creep , observing everything unfold, drink in his hand. His eyes meet mine with a dark gaze . For a moment, the noise around us fades and everyone else disappears .
It’s just a second. Maybe less. But it feels like something sharp and electric zips through the space between us.
He doesn’t smile. Neither do I.
Suddenly someone bumps into me from behind, breaking the spell, music returns to my ears and I stumble, shaking it off laughing with a bow as an apology. For a second I just watch everyone around me dancing , laughing, living as yeosang pulls me back into the dance with a smile. People around watching us with amused expressions , a lot of attention is being drawn to us.
We danced for a few more moments before a man approached, gently tapping Yeosang on the shoulder and whispering something in his ear.
“Ah… alright, Y/N. It seems Ho- Zeus has asked for you. Your mother is waiting at the stairs,” he said, his brow furrowing as confusion and concern flickered across his face.
“Oh… okay,” I replied, unable to mask the confusion in my voice. “Thank you for the dance, I really enjoyed it.” With a small smile I stepped back and gave a bow.
Turning to leave quickly, joining my mother at the stairs, fear building up in my stomach, what would Zeus want to speak with me about? Has he requested to speak with anyone else
Turning to leave quickly, I joined my mother at the stairs, fear bubbling in my stomach. What would Zeus possibly want to speak with me about? Has he requested to speak with anyone else? Have I done something wrong?
My mother offered a stone face as I approached, her hands clasped tightly in front of her as she’d been waiting for me . “Come,” she said quietly, not meeting my eyes. “He’s upstairs.”
The music and laughter of the ballroom dulled behind me as we ascended the wide staircase. The air seemed heavier now , our heels loudly clacking along the marble floor echoing our footsteps announcing our presence , Portraits and stone statues line the walls, Eyes following us. Or maybe that was just in my head.
“ Do you know what this is about? Have I done something wrong?” I asked her, my voice a whisper, barely audible over the thrum of my heartbeat.
She hesitated before answering. “No.I believe He just wants to meet you,” But her voice lacked conviction. Brows furrowing as she too wondered what he wanted with me. “ But be aware Zeus is a tricky man don’t be too trusting “
At the top of the stairs, two men in dark suits flanked a set of ornate double doors. One of them gave a short nod and opened it without a word.
We began to step forward, but one of the men raised a hand to stop my mother. “Only her,” he said firmly. My mother’s protest caught in her throat. The guard interrupted softly, “This way, Madam.” I stepped inside.
The room was even more lavish than the ballroom below. Adorn with silk curtains , stone columns in the corners, a large deep blue grecian couch in the center on top of beast skin rugs.
“Y/N ” he said, his voice mischievous and smooth. “Come in. Don’t be shy, I don't bite.”
