Phantom!
The Opera’s been invaded by a Phantom! The Opera’s been invaded by a ghost! (by a ghost!)
I DRANK ONE SINGLE ALCOHOL TONIGHT
...
ROLE PLAY WITH ME >:V
tbt one of my older OCs Theresa who had psychometry and occasionally had small visions of the future in her dreams
she was a tiny anxious lesbian and I loved her very much, she always wore lacy gloves so the psychometry wouldn’t be like sensory overload
I consider her one of the Old Crew as far as my OCs go, even if she wasn’t very interesting she was very kind and nervous and she played movie scores on piano in her spare time and was an event coordinator
she went by Tessie bc all of my OCs have nicknames bc they are my children
– Wow.
A car could manifest out of nowhere and strike her dead, and Millie would still be less surprised by it than the encouraging speech she just received. To be able to drum up such kind and true words and rattle them off the cuff is a talent; one she’s always privately been jealous of.
She fumbles for a response more articulate than her moon-eyes and vigorous nodding but finds her mouth stuffed with cotton, words lost to her amazement. “Wow,” she tries, and the response sinks like a stone to the ground. Millie repeats it, near to breathlessness. Wow.
“You should do – motivational speaking. You’d be good at it.”
Bless her heart, the girl had no way of knowing why her words brought a fit of laughter shaking through Nina’s core. One hand on her stomach, and the other lifted to her painted lips, the madame couldn’t contain her amusement. “Oh honey, I’m sorry, that just tickled me a little bit. I can’t imagine anybody bein’ much interested in what I had to say in front of a crowd, but I do appreciate it.”
It was the thought that counted, and all that.
“If I motivated you, that’s good enough for this old girl.” With a warm smile, Nina pulled one of the business cards she kept tucked into a pocket. “If you’re ever in the market for a chat or a cup of tea, this is my address. Second floor apartment, can’t miss it. Don’t worry, I won’t charge you.”
She couldn’t help but punctuate that with a playful wink, the poor little blonde was so flustered already!
poll: what should I do with a disheveled (possibly insomniac) pianist I came up with on the way home from Austin
I’m p sure he’s like the second male OC I’ve come up with in years
Her smile is embarrassed, evidenced by the thin stripe of teeth and the way her eyes dart away, as if looking at the floor may take some of the heat out of her cheeks. “I’ll keep it in mind. I’m just bummed, cos – it was brand new.” Never mind the fact she’s HORRIBLE at being embarrassed gracefully and can’t keep the tremor out of her voice. “And, like I said, been walking around like this for ages … ” A pitchy giggle, here. “Do you have any advice on how to scrub the embarrassment out of my memory?”
She would’ve reached a hand out for the girl’s shoulder, in fact she almost did--hand lifting from her side, only to think better of it and find a resting place on her own hip. The madame’s touchy ways weren’t always well-received by the more nervous folk, and this poor soul seemed to fit the ‘nervous’ bill all too well.
“Look around you, honey. Every person you see around here has one thing in common, and that’s bein’ very concerned with whatever it is they’ve got going on in their lives. Too concerned to pay much mind at all to a young lady with a little smudge on her skirt. Why, I’d bet anybody who saw you like this forgot about it the first second their phone buzzed.” Nina grinned, something knowing in her expression.
“Just remember this: you’ve probably seen at least a dozen different people’s most embarrassing moments of their whole lives. Or... at least in the top ten. And you’ve forgotten all about them, because you’ve got your own life to worry about. Everybody else is the same way.”
“Polech?” Purposely speaking only his native tongue, the elf bowed his head to her, a playful smile growing more and more apparent on his face with every word. “Gohena nin, Dî. Ú-iston .”
“Well--don’t you just think you’re so clever!” Having no choice but to concede, the human woman reverted to her own native tongue. “I haven’t been here long, you know, I’m learning. I’d like to see you learn Spanish in a few months.”
Millie stares at the sweater a moment, unable to understand why it’s being offered. As her words process, her hand floats to the back of her blue skirt and lightly touches. Her fingers come away ink black and greasy. “I – ” How in the world did oil get on the bus seat?
Cheeks blazing red, she hastily (gratefully) takes the sweater and ties it around her waist, her hands shaking with embarrassment the whole way. This is a brand new skirt, too! “Thank you so much, I – oh, wow, how completely fucking MORTIFYING. I’ve been walking around like this for hours and you’ve been the only one to say anything.”
“Oh, don’t you mention it.” The woman offered with a reassuring smile. “There isn’t much I’m afraid to say.” That, she added with a wink, though perhaps it wasn’t necessarily a good quality to have. She found difficulty being afraid of much when she’d survived so much already.
Noticing the smear of black on the poor girl’s fingertips, Nina piped up once again. “You know, if you’ve got some dish washin’ soap at home and a toothbrush you don’t use, you can get that stain right out. Just as soon as you get home, wet it down with hot water, and put the dish soap over the stain, then scrub it in a little circle with the toothbrush. that oughta get the worst of it, maybe save you a dry cleaning bill.”
his head whipped towards the sound of the voice—at first casey thought it was mocking him and his brutal rejection of a guy who was no less than twice his age. armed with a narrow stare and stiff shoulders, he softened a bit when he realized she wasn’t making fun of him. instead of retorting with yet another snarky comment, he responded with a laugh. a dry, disbelieving laugh.
❛ please. i’d never want to do politics. ❜ and, it was pretty hard to believe politics would want anything to do with someone like him. it was a rich man’s game and nobody else’s. ❛ —–that’s not what you do, is it? you’re not like, here to recruit people into some federal organization? ❜ casey’s seen enough thrillers, one can never be too sure.
In the wave of amusement that hit her, Nina struggled not to snort as she laughed. “Jesus, no.” A hand found the stretch of skin over her heart, ever one for melodrama. “No, honey, the government and I ain’t on speaking terms, and I’m not doing any recruiting.” Not at the moment, at least. Though he did have a face that might turn a head or two...
No, no. Bad Nina. The immortal lifted her tablet in one hand and her iced tea in the other, and promptly invited herself over closer to the youngster. “Can’t say I blame you for not being interested. I’ve been around enough politicians to know those checks and balances they talk about are all paychecks and bank balances.”
because it’s ridiculous that female ocs should have to be twice as developed or half as strong as male ocs to get attention. a little list of lovely female identifying ocs that i’ve come to love – this is by no means exhaustive, but i really do love seeing all these lovely ladies on my dash and wanna give them some applause for daring to write strong, nuanced, complex, female characters unapologetically.
without further ado …

Oh, what was it about this whippersnapper that reminded Nina so much of herself? Seated not far from him with some of her ledgers to work on, (she’d received a little tablet for Christmas with bookkeeping software, somehow she missed the mess of the paper ledgers) the madame couldn’t help but notice the rather brash youngster, and overhear quick-witted replies when someone spoke to him.
She’d heard once that fortune favors the bold. Maybe fortune would favor that one, since it seemed to pick and choose what boldness appealed to it.
“You sure told them.” She called over her tablet with a knowing grin, once the kid was alone again. “With that smart mouth of yours, you oughta go into politics.”

“Sweetheart, you might oughta take this.” The woman began in a hushed voice, offering no introduction before speaking. “Either you sat in something, or I don’t know what, but here--” Nina shrugged off her light sweater, more decorative than anything, and held it out.
“You can tie the sleeves around your waist, I know it ain’t really in style anymore but better than nothing in a pinch, hm?”
some days, you are a shipwreck; some days, a tidal wave. always, always something awe-inspiring, terrible, ferocious. always something too big for your trembling bones; too big for your disaster zone heart. they’ll tell tales about you to their grandchildren: a girl who stormed the world and saved the stars. started a revolution, stopped a war, changed the tides. and they’ll never use your name once when they speak. they built you out of ice and fire; shaped you into a titanic of a girl; a heartbreak of a human. wanted you to save them all; wouldn’t let you learn to save yourself first. wouldn’t let you learn to love the way your hands shake before a fight, the way your heart could fill the ocean, the way you love like the world is ending. (and for you, the world is always ending.) an asteroid with your name on it is hurling to the planet’s surface, and all you can think is, let them remember me, let them remember my name. ( x )
