#LikeMe - new TV series with a sweet gay storyline
So every other day, I hear people say, “I miss sweet, funny, and corny gay content on TV. Everything is so dramatic these days…” Like, what happened to fun? Remember the times when we were just rooting for Tyrus in Andi Mack and Alex/Willie in Julie and the Phantoms, full of hope? Well, I found just the right show for you if you want to feel those epic will-they-really-go-there highs and lows again.
#LikeMe is the name of the series. It’s Belgian, and it truly has everything you need if you’re looking for a show you don’t have to take too seriously: singing, dancing… basically everything a good old Disney Channel Original Movie has—except LUCKILY this time it’s on woke pills, and the main characters actually get to be gay.
So what’s the show actually about? Well, just like in Andi Mack, where Andi was coming to terms with who her mother and father were, here Mia has two moms and is secretly trying to find out who her donor father is so she can learn more about where she comes from. Along the way, she makes new friends and enemies. There are musical numbers. There are emotional scenes. There’s comedy. There’s corniness. There’s even a beautiful straight romance between the two leads.
But, just like in life, not everything is quite what it seems.
Nowadays, there are many countries moving backwards when it comes to LGBT+ topics and representation in media, but Belgium seems to be running forward. It’s refreshing that in a lighthearted and silly show like this, they still manage to be bold—and it gives you a little hope that maybe things will be alright one day.
