Opening up || Sara & Debby
Ecstatic. That was the only word Debby could use to describe her current mood as she sat alone, waiting until she was needed. The redhead was no stranger to auditions, with all of the projects she had been a part of and all of the projects she had tried to be part of, she had spent a lot of time reading lines in front of people. But this was different. This wasn’t for a movie or a role in a television show, this was theatre. And while the stage wasn’t new to her, growing up she was a part of school plays and after she moved to Germany, she had spent three years going straight from school to the theater, her life outside of acting not holding as much importance as it once had. But this was a serious gig. This wasn’t on an army base in Europe, it was the real deal and it left her with butterflies in her stomach at even the thought, just glad to be able to try.
Even though she had been in London for a few months, the idea of doing a show like this had never occurred to her. She was focused on her music and only her music, she didn’t have time for much else, but her schedule had cleared up quite a bit and ever since Harry brought it up when they were hanging out, she hadn’t been able to shake the idea. Now, tucking a strand of cinnamon dyed hair behind her ear, she looked up as soon as she heard Sara’s voice, pushing herself to her feet. “Me,” she stated, raising her hand with a small smile, suddenly feeling nervous. “That would be me.”
A warm and reassuring smile curled Sara’s lips upwards as she took in the sight of the brave first should to walk into the room. She knew she saw her face somewhere, that it was familiar, but at the moment she couldn’t place it. “Right this way, honey.” the singer gestured to the room and made sure to close the door behind Debby and her. “Oh! Debby! From the- that show with the twins, right?!” she suddenly exclaimed as one look at the girl’s headshot and resumé on the table jolted Sara’s memory awake. That’s where she knew her from.
She took her seat next to the director and flipped quickly through the papers. Everyone else was quiet, they didn’t mind letting her take charge. “Well, welcome, Debby. Lets do some quick introduction so you know we wont eat you.” the brunette smiled. “That’s Joannie, casting director, I think maybe your people talked with her? This is Diane, she was the New York production director and will be for this production too. And, well, I’m Sara, composer extraordinaire and, maybe possibly, your costar. So you’re auditioning for Dawn, right? We do it however you want, either song first or we could start with a scene reading. Your pick, honey.”
