500 Seneca Street

Yesterday I had the opportunity to tour 500 Seneca Street. When complete the building will be an the adaptive reuse of the historic former factory and offices of the F.N. Burt Company.

This  is of my Grandpa. He is a pretty interesting guy who has worn many hats in his life. He was in the military, he was a teacher, a judge, a friend, a father, a husband, a hunter, a role model, a brother and so many more things. In my 34 years I guess I’ve always thought about him and my Grandma in a way that only focused on how their lives related to mine. I knew he was many things to many people and that they had lived plenty of life before their 9 children, my two siblings our 11 cousins, but I didn’t know a lot about that life. This photo was taken last summer while he was telling us the story of how he and my Grandma met as friends when they were young and how that friendship eventually turned into a marriage and a beautiful life together. My mom grew up in a small town in the Adirondack Mountain region, Tupper Lake, NY. She moved after college and raised us in Buffalo, so although that limited the amount of time we were able to spend with my grandparents it never limited the impact they had on us. I look forward to seeing my grandpa this summer and hiking a mountain or taking a canoe trip and hope he will share many more stories like this one

This afternoon I photographed another really great event by the Investigative Post.  Today's topic was Reforming Buffalo Schools with Donald Ogilvie, superintendent of Buffalo schools; Efrain Martinez, superintendent of the Charter School for Applied Technologies; and Steven Polowitz, an attorney and school reform advocate as the speakers. It was refreshing to hear that there are a lot of common sense solutions being discussed when it comes to our education reform. Now if we could only get some of these ideas to come to fruition

Brantley wasn't so sure about this whole cake thing at first, but he got the hang of it real quick and was all smiles.

One of the best parts of my job is capturing people's most cherished memories and being part of milestones in their lives. I photographed Brantley's parents' wedding, his newborn photos and now Brantley just turned 1.

My mom grew up in a small little town tucked in the Adirondack Mountains called Tupper Lake. Every summer she would make the drive with my brother, sister and myself to visit our family. The now 6 hour drive felt like an eternity. I was often car sick, fighting between the three of us was routine and the amount of bathroom stops we required added about 2 extra hours to the drive. Now as an adult we continue to visit every summer often times more and I can never quite get over the beauty. I took some of these photos accompanied by my 10 year old nephew who now also has visited every summer since he was born. I feel so lucky to have spent part of so many summers here.

Couldn't sleep this morning so I decided to head to my favorite place to walk. There is something so grounding about this place to me. The trees, the light, the water, the windmills.... I love it all

Because they live in Melbourne, Australia I haven't gotten the chance to meet this new addition to their family until just 2 weeks ago so I am soaking up all the time I can with my favorite Australians.
