if you only knew the way my body fell limp through winter floorboards when her hands pressed into my face; that quiet flower a deluge into my skull if you only knew how I've never shed a tear at your absence how I lament the loss of that perfect whisper; velvet reticence is a reminder of the childish distance you forced between us yes, you. The scent sinks into my pores & I am not sorry. It never belonged to you. You thought it did. That's why it hurt the most when I left. I am not sorry for leaving. I am sorry that the mind cannot disconnect the memory of you from the strength and comfort residing within the petals. You do not get a say in this. I will draw it out of you like beads of sweat until it is no longer the soap in your bathroom; the salts I soaked in, the tea we drank; the oil you offered me. It is not the fault of flora, but my own for allowing you to live among it

For those who believe in God, most of the big questions are answered. But for those of us who can't readily accept the God formula, the big answers don't remain stonewritten. We adjust to new conditions and discoveries. We are pliable. Love need not be a command or faith a dictum. I am my own God. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.
