Hey Tumblr! SHATTERED STARLIGHT IS LAUNCHING… NOW!!!

Farah Shaughnessy is a magical girl. Or rather, she was a magical girl. Now, instead of saving Montreal from the forces of Chaos and Entropy, she’s just trying to hold down a decent job to pay her rent and still trying to get her life together a decade after the breakup of her team. When strange things start happening around her and old enemies start to reappear, Farah has to make a choice: face the things she’s been running from all these years or put down herastral weapon hockey stick and walk away for good.

Phew! I hope you enjoy reading this comic as much as I’m enjoying writing and drawing it! It’s been a long, weird trip for me to get here, and I’m really excited to get started! So does this mean my arm is all healed up and I can draw again? No, not exactly… My arm is getting better, but still isn’t at a point where I can draw new pages of anything (either Starlight or my other comic Fey Winds), but I have a decidedly comfy buffer of pages that I don’t mind thinning down a little in the hopes that I’ll be able to start drawing before I run out! ;)

For now, after this first batch of pages, I’ll be updating weekly, probably on Monday nights/Tuesday mornings over at http://www.shatteredstarlight.com/ ! 

Hopefully I’ll be able to continue updating this way when my arm heals and I can draw again, but I’ll see how it goes when I get there!

Animation is in a really fantastic place right now isn’t it!

Shows like Steven Universe and Wander over Yonder are creator driven and given ample support from their parent studios to help them be as successful as they can be. While Steven Universe may seem trapped in an endless hiatus while Teen Titans Go airs non-stop, the Steven bombs are planned and promoted events that the studio counts on to be successful because they trust the show.

‘Adult’ animation has become the home for some of the best jokes with the age of Mcfarlen-style humor on the decline and the rise of great shows like Rick and Morty, Bob’s Burger and Archer. With “Sausage Party” we’re getting our first rated R mainstream feature animated film. Critique it all you want but this is opening the gates to more adult oriented animated content which is great because animation is not a genre, its a medium.

Established properties like Powerpuff Girls and Samurai Jack are being given a new treatment with a new generation of talented artists. People who love the old shows and are excited about continuing them and trying something new with them. 

Shows like Spongebob and Fairly Odd Parents soldier on and continue to be popular well beyond their expected lifetime. Established long running properties bring home the bacon for a studio and help to pay for those shows that the studio is willing to take a chance risk like Avatar the last Airbender. There are shows that are made with an ending in mind like Gravity Falls that are given the creative freedom to tell the story they want to tell.

Storytelling is healthier now than it ever has been. It is becoming the selling point as series like Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead continue to out perform traditional television. New and exciting opportunities for cross platform storytelling are coming with shows like OK KO which started as a show and became an awesome game! The people making animated content now grew up with great shows like Batman, Gargoyles, X-Men, The Simpsons, the list goes on and on!

It feels like everyone is just sort of…getting started :)

I’m an animation professional and I get frustrated when I see stuff like this.

Artists Needed for Animation Project

What is Wolf?

Wolf is a traditionally animated movie currently in production.

Who is making this movie?

Everyone and anyone! We’re internet-based, so we have volunteers from all over the world helping us. Our goal is help interested ones interested in animation get real world experience in the field. So you don’t even have to have a resume! If you have the skills, you can work for us!

Why are you making this movie?

It is part of our mission to promote wolves in a more natural and positive light. Wolves have rarely been given a positive role in films, literature, and art, and we hope to have the opportunity to fill that gap. Seriously, how many movies can you name where the wolves were not the bad guys?

Lastly, we want to keep traditional animation alive. Our goal for the animation style of this film is to go back to the ‘roots’ of American animation. We believe the heart of animation is in the story.

I have family/work/school so I can’t help you

So do we! Many of us have other obligations ourselves. So we totally understand! As volunteers, we understand that not everyone can work on this all day every day 365 days a year. We will never ask you to put Wolf before your family and personal life. School and work always come first!

How can I help / What do you need?

We need animators, effects animators, background and layout artists most of all, but we can always use inkers and colorists! To learn more about how to apply for these positions and what they are, please go here. 

I can’t draw very well but I still want to help, so how can I do that?

By spreading the word about us, first and foremost! We also sell some merchandise to help cover the cost of our website hosting. The link for that is here. We have also released a prequel of sorts in the form of a paperback book, which you can gladly order off of Amazon.
