My time working in a plus-size retail store.
For three months I worked at a Yours Clothing store. I’ve shopped with the company before so I knew that I wanted to work for them at some point especially when everyone there was so kind and that did not change when I saw the behind-the-scenes of the store. The patience my colleagues had with me as I learned the store's ins and outs and this was my first experience with working. Learning how to hang the clothes correctly, how fast clothing changes as the seasons change or which products are selling better online than in-store. Helping customers find which clothes they need or want to try out. To learn how delivery works in the store.
As the days turned to weeks I started to feel more confident and comfortable being in the store but also within myself, I started to feel less ashamed and anxious about being plus-sized and my colleagues being different sizes really helped me to feel like I was not alone in being plus-sized but also that I am worthy of feeling beautiful in my own body.
It was heartbreaking for me when I had to leave, and it has taken me a while to get that confidence and courage back to try again because I was happily working there. I was lucky enough not to have many complicated tasks or customers. My first experience was a good experience, and I’m thankful it was. I know not all experiences are going to be like that but I’m happy that my first work experience was good.
