Tableau is a software application that provides the user with the ability to easily display data in a visual way. Using the steps above you can begin your first visual. This great for people who need to explain research findings, or any sort of data that may be more difficult to grasp through a simple oral explanation or spreadsheet.
Following the step by step instructions, I have posted a few visual aids of my own. By combining data from the City of Seattle regarding the usage rates of the 520 Bridge Path with weather data, I was able to display the most popular conditions for path use. I included the average temperature on the most popular days, the average amount of precipitation on the most popular days, the most popular months, as well as the most popular days of the week.
1) Step 1- Select a CSV file you would like to use.
2) Step 2- Select the Sheet 1 tab on the bottom of the screen. You should see a page similar to this.
3) Step 3- Drag and drop Dimensions and Measures to create the visual aids.
4) Size of the box and the count refers to the number of total path users. The color refers to the weekday.
5) Size of the box and the count refers to the number of total path users. The color refers to the month.
6) Size of the box refers to the number of total path users. The color and value refer to the precipitation that day.
7) Size of the box refers to the number of total path users. The color and value refer to the average temperature that day.
