As far as I'm concerned, this is the only way to wear camo shorts. First, the shorts themselves are a flattering length, fitted properly and have no distressing. The styling dresses up the camo even more with the chambray button-down and the wingtip oxfords. No lie, these pants have a lot going on. The drop crotch is just the beginning...look at the seaming on the legs of the pants. You've got a seam imitating the center crease of a pair of dress pants, then that entire panel tapers to a skinnier street style silhouette. Add a draw string to accent the slouchy drape, but also a chain to bring it back to the realm of dress pants. These pants are so confused and it's wonderful to behold. Sports ball uniforms have a rule that you're supposed to see a new, interesting detail from a thousand feet away, a hundred feet away and ten feet away. This outfit follows those same rules. From far away you see the silhouette with the wide brim hat and the drop-crotch pants. Get a little closer and you start noticing textures. The t-shirt is actually a sweater, the shoes are suede and there's a bit of shine accenting the waistband. Of course I needed a booty shoot for this one just to reiterate Sal's attention to detail. This shirt was originally on display with a wildly patterned suit that was not stocked in the store. After they changed the display windows, Sal went back for the suit but left with just this shirt. While the idea of a graphic tee shirt paired with a suit is certainly appealing for the hipster stylist these days, this shirt looks perfectly at home when paired with leather boots and a denim jacket. The graphic reminds me of an ablum cover if it married a state flag: perfectly eye-catching. May 22, 018 : A celebrity shot for a celebrity outfit. If I had put this outfit together, I may have made one change. On the one hand, Sal's hiking boots are a great choice because the color and wear match his jacket, hat and neckerchief. My thought is that I would have changed the hiking boots style for a sleeker dress shoe to provide more continuity in the accessories. That said, I do love the style conversation between the boots and the neckerchief. It brings the outfit more into the casual, everyday category and bridges the gap between the vintage fall look and the summery base outfit. #ootd #sartorialsal #styleanalysis #style #vintage

May 22, 2018 : I want to call this look the Fashionable Contradiction. Memorial Day is almost here, which is the old rule for when you can start wearing white shoes and pants (and then you have to stop after Labor Day, which we all know from Legally Blonde, right?). So we have here a traditionally summer look of white pants, denim shirt and Sal's signature neckerchief. The contradiction is that he has accessorized the base outfit with traditionally fall pieces: heavy leather hiking boots, leather jacket and wool hat. What makes it work, other than the creative styling, is the light color of the leather and wool. The caramel tones bring a warmer feel to cold weather garments. May 10, 2018 : Part of the reason I love chronicling Sal's outfits is that he can put such thoughtful detail into a totally casual look. He has four distinct colors in this look. Normally that many colors might be overwhelming in one casual outfit, but here, each color has the same faded hue.
