Biography
Childhood
Born on January the 3rd, 1761, Jane Eleonora Pocock grew up in Canterburry, England as the daughter of Captain Ambrose Pocock. Too young to ever remember her real mother after her passing, the only mother she has ever known was her adoptive mother Faith, who married her father when Jane was just a little girl of three years. When Jane was five years old, her sister Frances "Fanny" was born, whom she loves and has always loved dearly. Since the day Fanny was born, Jane had been protective of her. To their mother Faith, the two girls had a close and loving relationships, often taking walks together, watching dragonflies and Faith reading books to them in fields. Thanks to their father's earnings and their mother's intelligence, the two received a good education, with Jane having studied Latin. Much like her mother and sister, Jane has been noted to be remarkably bright endlessly curious about the world from a young age.
Their father would visit Faith and the girls as often as he could, though as a ship captain, he was always away from his family for months during voyages. Their only way of reaching out to their father had been letters during these times; however, whenever Captain Pocock would return, Jane and her family would be overfilled with joy. Despite the regular absence of her father, Jane, resilient and joyful in her nature, has lived a happy childhood in England until everything fell apart when her father decided to take his family aboard a merchant ship in 1771.
When everything fell apart
After Captain Pocock was brutally murdered by a pirates, Jane and Fanny were held captive. Jane endured horrors being violated by a man named Vasquez, and, fierce in nature and unable to bear anyone harming her loved ones, Faith fought back against the pirates. Seeing her as too much trouble, Vasquez threw Faith overboard and sold the girls to a brothel in Philadelphia.
Since then, Jane Pocock has made a living off prostitution to keep her sister and herself alive and fed, taking on the alias "Arabella".
The murder of Captain Harkness
In the summer of 1778, a violent client named Captain Harkness came into the brothel. Boasting to several other men at a table how he enjoyed tormenting prostitutes, he made his wicked intentions clear. Overhearing the conversation, a young soldier named William Ransom noted Harkness' lingering eyes on Jane and paid handsomely to spend a night with Jane in order to save her from the other man. Though William had not intended to sleep with Jane at first but merely to let her rest, the two shared a meaningful bond during that night that eventually ignited into physical passion.
A few days later, Harkness returned and offered twenty pounds to take Fanny's maidenhood. Willing to do anything to protect her sister, Jane led the man into a room and cut his throat, after which she run away with Fanny. Meeting William while on the run, he agreed to protect them and escorted them to a Quaker settlement in New York.
In 1779, Jane was recognized by a friend of Harkness' and denounced for the murder. Although William tried to speak on her behalf, his attempts were met in vain, and it was decided that Jane shall be hanged. With Jamie Frasers' help, William was able to locate Jane, though he was too late. Jane had lain there in a puddle of blood, motionless, her wrists cut with the broken beer bottle next to her.

When I first touched
those stones, it wasn't a choice.
I didn't try to come here, but I did.
And I don't know if it was-
if it was fate
or destiny or God.
But what I do know is that
I'm supposed to be here,
is that I am meant to be here.
This is my time.
Good morning Sassenachs!

How it started vs how it ended
STRANGE THE THINGS YOU REMEMBER.
Single images and feelings that stay with you down through the years.
Like the moment I’d realized I’d never owned a vase.
That I’d never lived in any place long enough to justify having such a simple thing.
And how at that moment, I wanted nothing so much in all the world
as to have a vase of my very own.
It was a Tuesday afternoon, six months after the end of the war.
Somehow in my mind, V-E Day, the end of the bloodiest and most terrible war in human history, grows fainter with each passing day.
But I can still recall every detail of the day when I saw the life I wanted sitting in a window.
I sometimes wonder what would’ve happened if I’d bought that vase and made a home for it. Would that have changed things? Would I have been happy? Who can say?
I do know this: even now, after all the pain, and death and heartbreak that followed,
I would still make the same choice.
Outlander 7x16 "A Hundred Thousand Angels"
He looked upon her face by candlelight for the first time, and the last. He felt emptied, hollow as a gutted deer. With no notion what to say, he touched one black-bound hand and spoke the truth, in a voice too low for any but the dead to hear.
“I wanted to save you, Jane. Forgive me.”
