I haven't thought about this selection of characters in a while. I mostly think of them as a relic from my past. I've long thought I want to revamp these characters with a different loose plot, but felt stuck in their already-set ways. The other day I let my thoughts wander to them, and had some ideas on how I would change their story. I'll type some ideas below.
Drastically, I feel bad for fridging Anne, and i'd like to find a way for her to survive. I've also never had very much of a motivation for the attack on the Kingdom that killed her. One reason I lost interest in this world is realizing that i didn't care for monarchies in real life, lol. when i came up with this story, i just knew that people opposed them, without questioning why. so i definitely want to rework everyone's history to have motivation.
Notes on characters, part one: Royalty
Anne is the Queen of Satellite, having the title passed to her by her blood, making her the epitome of leadership in the kingdom. Having been in the royal line all her life, she found true passion in community, and wants to be a more benevolent ruler than her predecessors. She has a passion for creating things.
Atmo is the King of Satellite, becoming the king by marriage to Anne. He is somewhat demure and prone to anxiety. He's transgender, which was supported by his family, and was submitted as a suitor to Anne in his youth. Those who know of this are supportive of him, but it still causes him anxiety.
Seele is a royal guard, and after showing bravery and wisdom in his protection of his royals, was promoted to being an Advisor to the royals. He has a deep affection for Atmo.
Hera's Peacock is the royal Magician, specializing in healing. She runs a clinic near the castle, which is open to the public but prioritizes the Royals by contract. She enjoys helping other people, but it can be overwhelming. Whenever she has free time, she tries training apprentices to hopefully take some weight off her back.
Notes on characters, part two: Enemies
Facade (codename for ...) is a bitter cat born into a wealthy family. After falling on hard times, he was submitted as a suitor for Anne, but was rejected in favour of Atmo. He feels cheated of his wealth and eventually leads an attack on the royals that leaves them scarred. Loosely he hopes that he can overthrow them and live wealthily again, but on a very basic level he just wants revenge.
Ruffian (codename for Rufus) lives modestly, but makes her living on thievery. She has a smug personality and is a skilled fighter. Facade recruits her to help lead an attack on the royals, using the promise of wealth. She has a fondness for Facade, but is mostly attracted to his wealthy past.
Ghost (codename for Sam) is an odd scarred cat who's missing an eye and has a twisted arm. He's reserved and anxious. Facade recruits him to help in his attack with the promise that the danger might kill him. He's the home of a demon named Sweet Charity, a trickster who keeps Sam alive for its own amusement. Sam is very secretive about Charity, whom he hates.
Other notes:
A central point in this story is an attack on the royals that occurred at a public ceremony. My previous idea was that Facade and crew are a gang of homeless cats who hate the royals. this sucks. I thought it would be more intriguing (and realistic) if facade was motivated from a place of entitlement, feeling like something is owed to him if he can only take it by force. his cohorts are various people driven by desperation.
I do not know very much about how monarchies work, but since this is fantasy, it doesn't matter too much. i'll probably research more about monarchies anyways.
Anne being taken from Atmo is a big part of their story, so if i want Anne to live, i'll have to kind of reconfigure the chain of command going on... one idea i had is that she was alive but very scarred and unfit to work, like due to head trauma or something...
im running out of ideas so i doodled anne and atmo. every time i draw anne she looks different bc i truly do not draw her often enough to stick to one design. CONSEQUENCE OF KILLING HER...! which i would like to change.
I don’t think anything quite gets me like ‘grieving character starts wearing something of their dead loved ones,’ particularly if the clothing/jewelry/object/weapon was something that sorta trademarked that other character. It’s like the character is gone but you can still visually see their memory living on through those that loved them. It just hits so hard.
i love that hera was really designed by someone whose username was "pewdiecryship" of all things. pewdiecryship from didlr, if youre out there i wanna know how you're doing and if you even like these youtubers anymore
drawinggg the main trio again for art fight coming up because i realized their only references on there are 5 years old (OUCH), but also i have not drawn cats in foreverrrr so theyre looking. um. a bit funky..... hi also ::-]
[First ID: Grey-scale drawings of Atmo, a grey cat with a darker splotch around one eye. His tail and right arm are made of the same dark material around his eye. In one drawing, he stands wearing a dark vest and light undershirt and pants. In another he is sitting on Seele’s lap, both purring. Seele is a large, fluffy, light cat. There is also a small bust of Atmo, and a small scene of Atmo and Seele looking at the former’s arm and talking about it.
Second ID: Drawings of Major, a tall thin cat with dark fur; and Minor, a short cat with light striped fur. In one drawing, Major is looking up and crying, with his claws extended. In another Minor is kneeling on the ground with his hands clasped over his head. In the bottom drawing, both of them are floating and holding each others’ hands; Minor is saying “We’ll go together in flight.” /End ID]
[Image description: A two panel comic featuring busts of Atmo, a grey cat with purple scars around his eye and on his back, and one half of an ear missing. He wears a grey metal collar around his neck, which has a piece of wood poking out of the back. In the first panel, he faces about three-fourths away from the viewer, looking away with a grimace and saying “Can’t you see, & don’t you know, I’ve been through hell?”. In the second panel he is looking at the viewer with a tear in his eye as he says “Don’t condemn what you don’t comprehend.” The background is purple and he has pink lines of irritation surrounding him in the first panel. End of description.]
