I think they’re kids and they fuck up. But I think if anything, they’ll learn from it. And the guilt of disappointing his commander might straighten Zan out and well, I’ll deal with Nesh.

I recommend the on board psychologist as well. I know one of your soldiers already sees her. You’re fully authorized to mandatory them to visit her.

ooc: Cheik really lays it on when he speaks to his soldiers. He kind of hits at their core and drives the point home extra hard. Is this just his personality or is it a reflection of his inexperience in dealing with young soldiers? Is he overcompensating for that or feels its truly necessary?
I think it's a pretty steady mix of both. He does have some experience with training, but that's usually in an enclosed environment, exclusively among soldiers under his tutelage. They tend to be tighter-knit. They're a unit, a family -- really, where the intensity comes from is that this isn't in-fighting. It's between different branches, and those can be incredibly tough lines to cross. It's a shared respect, a mutual obligation to keep people safe, but totally different means of control and command.
At the end of the day, though, it's not his job to be easy on these kids. It could be a lot worse. His personality is what makes him 'tough, but fair'. Especially the fair part. In a situation like this, he should be filing incident reports, suspending people, basically screwing up their chances of flying again. But he's trying his best to keep his cool, keep his faith in these people.
He's trying to balance between being 'soft' and being 'soft'. He doesn't want a reputation as a weak-willed commander. He wants respect. He wants to be the 'cool dad', but he's not a dad. He's their boss. A commanding officer. And that means making sure they don't make mistakes like this: mistakes that could not only jeopardize their career, but his own, as well. It's a mutual thing.
Also, he's okay under stress, but it's pretty clear that when he gets stressed out, he's a lot more aggressive than usual. That, definitely, is his lack of field experience coming through, trying to take control of a situation he's never before needed to deal with.
