heathcliff says nothing to her. his eyes are as enigmatic as his countenance, dark and brooding and pensive like the rest of his lumbering form, looming above her. he’s this great beast and she’s the babe in the woods, with her soft skin and delicate touch, but he knows no matter how she changes, in dress or appearance or speech, that their love was an unstoppable force. even if she were to turn away and leave him until they were both dead, their souls were intertwined and they had been the day he laid eyes on her.
forcefully, he pressed a kissed to her lips, the broad hand on her chin having moved to the side of her neck, but as soon as this passionate kiss was placed, he pulled back all the same, lingering close as he spoke next, his voice low near her lips. ❛i am cursed to love you, cathy earnshaw. cursed as i am this gypsy blood running through my veins, cursed as i am to hate the man i once called brother. nothing you or i can do will ever change that.❜
his grip on her neck suddenly pulled her forward, closer to him. ❛but do not take me for a fool. my soul might as well be damned to hell, because i could sooner be there than with you. your mind speaks louder than your heart, and until that changes, you won’t be seen with me. do not taunt me with your love.❜
in his eyes, cathy can see memories swimming in spite of the dark irises that shout
defiance & ferocity at the rest of the world. try as he might, he cannot stop her from
seeing his emotions plain as daylight on the moors. those eyes, so dim and defensive,
cathy sees light in. she may have commented then, on the lucidness of them, but
she was stupefied in place at the assault of heathcliff's lips on her own.
hands glide helplessly into his dark locks, her nimble digits curling into him like a claim.
perhaps, in fact, it is one. she exhales steadily when they part, and her lips chase after his when they're abandoned. but they do not reach him; instead staying pursed, rounded eyes flicking between his own as he speaks.
in the presence of such a brute act, any other mistress may have flinched, gasped,
dropped their jaw in a manner so appalled. catherine, jaw tightened with the haughty,
stubborn nature of a lioness, stood taller.
❛ is it not enough to be with you now ?
I will not attend dinner. I'll tell them I am otherwise
engaged. I'll be with you tonight - won't y' accept
such a thing? If you'll not allow me to stay, I'll do
so without your consent. I should believe the lintons
can manage without me this evening. ❜
