Not every OC is a self insert. Recently a friend said she would feel weird about playing one of my characters (she is the dm of a campaign) and I have been trying to figure out why that is such an issue for her. Because I too hesitate to mess with someone's characters narrative, but I explicitly told her she could change the character as she saw fit. I am not attached to it being exact. I trust her to d something good.

But it's because to her it's More than just playing with my Barbie. For her it's like she would pretend to be me. Which???? No! This is a narrative tool I am handing you! Not a part of myself!
