Taking a long swig of his beer Jesse his bottle hoover above the bar top before bringing it to his lips once more. Raising it in agreement, he nodded “ Who in their right mind wants to settle down do the whole marriage thing anyway One person and that’s it? Nothing- you settle into a life of normalcy when there’s a world out there waiting to be discovered damn it.” Shaking his head he turned, “You know what’s shit? Movies. Giving everyone false ideas of what love is supposed to be. I blame hollywood.”

Savannah smiled at the stranger as he spoke. “So many new things to see and explore and learn, I can’t believe people actually waste it by looking for some perfect mystery person for years on end.” Savannah added. “But now that’s where I have to disagree. I love movies.”

“And what’s your pathetic excuse for me, huh?” Evan questioned lazily, rolling his eyes. “I don’t care if the person I find is my soulmate, as long as they can take the pressure off of me with raising my kids. And I can’t date normally because between my kids and running a nation-wide law empire, I don’t have the time to just date.”

“So you chose to come here instead?” Savannah raised an eyebrow at the stranger. “Where are your kids now?”

“I used to love them- but I don’t anymore. They’re not worth the trouble anymore,” Roman said simply, shaking his head as he chewed on his lower lip lightly. “I’m Roman-” he added quickly, before ordering himself another shot.

“Sounds like we’ve both had some pretty great experiences then.” Savannah sarcastically responded. By his words, she could tell that he’s been hurt before and that’s never a good feeling. “Well, it’s nice to meet you Roman. I’m Savannah.” She added. “Not going to order me a drink?”

Sean took a sip of his whiskey, trying to nurse it so he didn’t feel compelled to order another one. “It’s about forming a connection with someone,” he said, tilting the glass towards her. “Nobody’s perfect, but finding a person whose imperfections complement yours–it makes all the difference. Though I can only speak for myself.” 

Savannah turned to the stranger and slightly nodded her head as he spoke. “Well, maybe it’s because I’ve never felt it, but I find that to be complete bullshit.” She responded bluntly. “But who knows, maybe this place might actually open my eyes to something more.”

Brooke laughed lightly, “Are you new here? Because you sound just like I did when I first got here, just without the alcohol.”

“Lucky guess.” Savannah said with a slight laugh. “Did things change? Is this place really as eye opening as everyone says it is?” She asked, half out of curiosity and half just mocking the people that she’s already met on the island. She’s never been surrounded by so many people that love love so much.

Alana kept walking and smiled small. “Somewhat.. yeah.” She nodded with a chuckle as she looked around them. “I too was completely memorized by this place.” She looked over at Savannah.

“Was?” Savannah questioned. “I guess no place lasts mesmerizing for too long.” She continued, spotting the castle in the distance. “Any luck at finding your soulmate?” Savannah asked teasingly. Unlike everyone around her, she’s never really believed in that whole thing.

“I’ve honestly never heard someone say something more true in their entire life,” Roman agreed immediately, before tilting his head back to pour another shot down his throat, slamming the glass back down onto the bar top. 

“Well then, cheers to that.” Savannah said, raising her own drink up in the air and then bringing it down to take a sip. “The whole concept just seems so ridiculous.” Savannah said, not really directing it to anyone. She then turned towards the stranger. “I’m Savannah by the way.”

“Yeah, well, they should’ve waited a few years before gettin’ married. I’m sure that instant love feeling would’ve dwindled by then,” He made a face, fishing a mint leaf out of his drink so he could swallow the rest of his alcohol in one swig. “Oh, I’m here for a sugar daddy,” Cecil said matter of factly, resting his arm against the back of his chair, “Well–I mean, if my soulmate and my sugar daddy was the same person I’d be over the damn moon, but I’m not holdin’ my breath for that. What about you? Just tryin’ to find someone who’d suit you, or are you here for work?”

Savannah processed the strangers words for a couple of seconds before responding. “A sugar daddy,” She repeated with a smile on her face. “That’s exactly what I need. Maybe then my parents wouldn’t try setting me up with different person every week.” She said, it was more so her just thinking out loud. “But I’m here because of them. And though it might not seem like it, I’m not completely closed off to the idea of a soulmate.”

“I can’t speak for other people-” Evan paused, before shrugging his shoulders and taking a small sip of his whiskey. “But some of us have kids and we can’t just have half a million people coming in and out of their lives.”

“Well, if people weren’t so worried about who their soulmate was, there wouldn’t be a desire to be with half a million people.” Savannah began to respond. “You can date someone without putting the pressure of them being the perfect one for you. Maybe more relationships would work out then.”

The tall but willowy girl couldn’t help but lock her jaw at the others words. It was taking everything in her not to react strongly, although her strongly wasn’t much. “It was amazing, I could be myself with him, and it all felt right. Everything in me wanted to touch him, or kiss him. Until he asked me on a date, and I found out he was engaged, then he left and that was that.”

Savannah sipped her drink while she listened to the girl speak. “See, there’s the problem. If you’re really going to find a soulmate, it should be so much more than the physical stuff.” As she spoke, Savannah softly ran her finger tips along the side of the strangers arm. More so to prove a point. “Lots of people can make you feel right, especially when it comes to being physical.” She than slowly took her hand away. “If you’re going to find a soulmate, just the words alone should feel right.” Savannah then softly shook her head. “I don’t even know if any of this is making sense, maybe I just had too much to drink.”

“Can’t disagree,” Lacey set her empty glass on the table, and turned her gaze back to her hands. “It’s ok, I don’t talk much so it works.” Shaking her head, she pulled her lower lip between her teeth. “No thanks, I’m not a big drinker and no, I used to, but the person I thought was my soulmate ruined it.”

“Well, I always find it better to not bottle things up inside. Sometimes people tend to over share but it’s all with a purpose.” Savannah shrugged. “I’m sorry to hear that. That’s why love sucks. It’s all temporary. It’s like the whole purpose of it is to end up hurt.” Savannah began to say. “If you don’t mind me asking, how did it feel when you thought you found the one? There’s always some good before it all ends.”

Alana nodded and began walking along side the girl. “Oh yeah! I’m usually alone on these walks.” She chuckled then smiled at her. “It is a win for both of us, for sure! Nice to meet you Savannah, I’m Alana.” 

As Savannah continued to walk next to Alana, she began looking around the island once again. The farther they went, the more mesmerizing it all appeared. “Have you been here long?”

Placing his hand on his cheek, he nodded lazily as the girl rattled off again. Maybe he didn’t know her–hell, maybe he just noticed her a couple of minutes ago after reaching over her for another swipe at the stale bowl of peanuts–but she was his 4th mojito best friend at the moment and pleasant conversation was far more interesting than whatever sports game was blasting through the rusty TV behind the bar. Taking a long swig of his drink, he sucked on an ice cube as he thought over her words.  “I heard it’s like fireworks or magic or some shit,” he shrugged, “Like–ya meet them an’ all of a sudden you feel like you need to be with them forever. But, like, don’t people get married to people who ain’t their soulmates? I guess it feels like love, then—still fuckin’ stupid, no doubt.”

“Yes, someone on this island actually gets what I’m talking about!” Savannah smiled at the stranger and took another sip of her drink. “This is why divorce rates are so high. People marry the first person that makes them feel some type of high and then it never ends up working out.” She continued to say. “Wait, so is there any particular reason you’re on this island? Apparently everyone here is blindly searching for the same thing.”

Lacey had been at the bar alone, and was thoroughly enjoying doing so, when the other girl walked up, “Uh,” was all the Cuban had been able to get out before the other kept speaking. It took while for her to stop, and as she wasn’t sure if the question was rhetorical, she answered, “I don’t know. I figure some people blindly believe it.”

“There’s way too many people in this world that would believe absolutely anything they hear.” Savannah finished as she glanced at the uninterested blonde. “Sorry, I’m probably talking too much. How about I get you another drink?” She asked, motioning to the strangers empty glass. “So, are you one of those people? The type to believe in all of this soulmate stuff.”

Alana looked at the other girl and smiled before starting to walk. When the girl called out to her again she turned and stopped. “I was just heading back there.. well in that direction. You can join me if you’d like. Don’t want you getting lost now do we?” She chuckled. 

“Sure, thanks.” Savannah said with a smile. “And at least now you have someone to keep you company on this walk, especially someone like me. It’s a win for both of us.” She said jokingly. “I’m Savannah, by the way.”

“All I’m saying is that I don’t really see the whole point of being here.”  Savannah began to say. She was a couple drinks in and words just continued to leave her mouth without any type of warning. “There’s millions, no, billions people in this world. How could you possibly want to be with just one for the rest of your life? And say you meet this person, how do you know it’s the right one? I doubt you can ever find one person that’s actually perfect for you.”

Alana looked around the island, thinking of how she was going to fit in. She thought to herself and before she knew it she turned around abruptly and ran into someone. “Oh sh- I’m sorry!”

Savannah walked through the streets of the island, admiring all the little shops and the beautiful view of the beach. She still wasn’t too happy about being here but she thought she could at least make the most of the situation. The slight crash snapped her out of her thoughts and she was now face to face with another blonde. “Don’t worry about it, babe.” She said and began walking away but, after a couple of steps she turned right back around. “Wait, do you know how to get to the castle? I just got here and I’m clearly not the best with directions.”
