While they appear to be made of wood, a Sawsbuck’s horns are actually made of hollow cartilage that’s grown to mimic wood as a form of camouflage, with the hollow portions allowing them to use moves like Horn Leech.

What they may be attempting to hide from remains a mystery, though some theories suggest they may be prey for wild Haxorus or Heatmor.

Does a sawsbuck's antlers grow back? And is there anything to worry about, a bit of the antler broke off my buddy's head during a battle. He's fine, and doesn't even seem to be aware it has happened

Sawsbuck usually shed their antlers sometime during the winter to conserve the energy and water that is otherwise used to maintain them. A well-fed Sawsbuck will have no problem regrowing their antlers come spring, so you don’t have to worry! Chips and cracks are quite normal, especially during the breeding season when they compete with one another.

Antlers are true bone, so small fractures do heal themselves over time if injuries occur in the growth phase. This phase is characterized by the presence of velvet, which is a thin layer of highly vascularized, furry skin that covers the antlers as they grow in order to deliver blood and nutrients to the bone.

If your Sawsbuck doesn’t seem to feel any pain or discomfort, then that means that the growth period has finished and the antlers have no live nerves anymore. While the chipped part won’t grow back, you can expect your buddy to have a complete new pair of antlers next spring.
