Some of the problems at #Lansdowne #QueenWest #Parkdale #Toronto would be addressed if CAMH simply provided adequate services – specifically a washroom, ideally an accessible drop-in – for its patients.  Despite their claims about client-centredness there is none of this apparent at Downtown West.  The entrance is routinely wet with urine, and the sidewalk in front of the clinic routinely smells of urine, all because there is no washroom or washroom access for patients waiting outside.  This is unacceptable.  My concerns are not limited to the exterior of Downtown West.  I have lived in the neighborhood for twenty years so have been made aware of other problems at this clinic, that staff routinely consume alcohol on the premises "after hours"; that patients' pin money has routinely been stolen; that staff have had to be let go because of theft of patients' pin money; that the caseload of nurses is impossibly high; that there are not enough good psychiatrists; that people who want to become patients are "selected" or "cherry-picked" not on the basis of their need but on the basis of their utility to "flavor or the month" CAMH programs; that patients are routinely transferred from one clinic to another againts their wishes and entirely for administrative reasons; that medication errors due to bad staffing are routine; that the emphasis at the clinic is too much on wholesale drugging, community treatment orders, and processing, etc.... #streetsoftoronto #streetphotography
