One Of The Many Problems With Adobe Creative Cloud

Anyone who knows me has heard me grouse about Adobe, more and more as the years go by. Without getting into my rant, I’m putting together this HOW-TO guide for fixing broken Creative Cloud updates. I see the message “Creative Cloud desktop failed to update (Error Code: XXXX)” about 9 out 10 times when trying to update it. For my own benefit, I’m making a note of the steps to fix this idiotic error in Mac OS X.

Quit all Adobe Cloud apps.

Quit Creative Cloud toolbar menu app.

Open Activity Monitor and quit any Adobe services running, such as Adobe Desktop Service, CCXProcess, Core Sync, Core Sync Helper, and anything else with an Adobe icon.

Uninstall Adobe Creative Cloud using the uninstaller in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers. Mind you, this never works for me. The uninstaller tries to launch, asks for my admin password, then shuts down. No explanation given. Annoying. If that happens, download another one: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-creative-cloud-desktop-app.html and run.

Download Adobe CC Cleaner Tool: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html. If Creative Cloud is listed, click “Cleanup selected” for that. Then do Fix Host Files for fun. Restart computer. (Apparently. I don’t find that’s ever a deal breaker.)

Go to this page and log in with your Adobe ID. Start the download to make sure it’s working, but abort once it starts (unless you want Adobe Photoshop Elements). This step is necessary because if you try to download from the ProDesignTools.com site without doing this, none of the links will work.

Go to ProDesignTools Creative Cloud 2015 Direct Download links page: http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cc-2015-direct-download-links.html and download the full installer. (You might have to hack the link if the last installer shown is not the most recent one available, which can be found here: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/release-note/cc-release-notes.html, i.e. change the numbers in the file name to match the release version you want.)

Stupid and annoying? Yes and yes. Arcane and should be a top-priority fix for Adobe Creative Cloud developers? Uh, yes and yes. There’s absolutely no reason why the average — or above average — user needs to go through this mess of steps every time their failure of a desktop app fails, which is well about 80% of the time. Cutting the ranting before it gets out of hand.

I really can’t get enough of The Roots doing these dressing room sessions with toy instruments. It also shows which vocalists can hold their own without autotune. Clearly Idina Menzel has no problems.

Where were you when Team Canada beat Team Sweden in the men’s hockey gold medal game at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics? It was an early morning in Canada for those who wanted to watch the game. A few hundred people packed the Shark Club at Yonge and Dundas in Toronto to share the moment and celebrate the gold medal performance.

This is what it looked like in the final seconds of the game.
