Not to sound like an old fart here but my philosophy about video games is like. A kid living out in the middle of bumfuck nowhere with no internet access for miles should be able to purchase a game from walmart, take that game home, put it in their console, and play the whole game with all of its features and the only thing lack of internet affects is the inability to play online with others. Nothing else. They shouldn't be missing entire chunks of the game becuase they can't download a patch. The game shouldn't be borderline empty or unplayable without a patch.
Amazon employees around the world are preparing to strike on Black Friday in an effort to improve working conditions and demand accountability from top executives.
Workers and activists in more than 20 countries are expected to protest as part of a campaign led by “Make Amazon Pay,” a coalition of 70 trade unions and organizations including Greenpeace, Oxfam, and Amazon Workers International.
Individuals everywhere “from oil refineries, to factories, to warehouses, to data centers, to corporate offices” are expected to participate in the November 26 event, according to the campaign.
“The pandemic has exposed how Amazon places profits ahead of workers, society, and our planet,” Make Amazon Pay wrote in a list of demands shared on its website. “Amazon takes too much and gives back too little. It is time to Make Amazon Pay.”
The protests come amid growing dissent from Amazon employees over working conditions, including long hours, low pay, and complex performance review systems. Make Amazon Pay’s demands include increased salaries, better job security, and “suspending the harsh productivity and surveillance regime Amazon has used to squeeze workers.”
The coalition also calls for a “pay back to society” that includes enhanced sustainability efforts, increased transparency over data and privacy, and ending partnerships with police forces and immigration authorities that are “institutionally racist.”
“Amazon is not alone in these bad practices but it sits at the heart of a failed system that drives the inequality, climate breakdown, and democratic decay that scar our age,” Make Amazon Pay wrote in its demands.
In a statement, Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel told Insider that the company is “inventing and investing significantly” in several of the categories the campaign addresses, including climate efforts, like a commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 and pushes to improve competitive wages and benefits.
“These groups represent a variety of interests, and while we are not perfect in any area, if you objectively look at what Amazon is doing in each one of these areas you’ll see that we do take our role and our impact very seriously,” Nantel said.
If you read their site, nowhere do they call for consumers to boycott Amazon, on Friday or any other day.
The reason they chose to protest on Amazon’s busiest day is because Amazon will be getting so much business. Lots of orders + workers not filling those orders = an inconvenience for Amazon that they’re more likely to pay attention to.
So if you were planning to do your shopping on Black Friday, you’re not crossing any picket lines. This protest’s call to action is for Amazon workers and activists, not Amazon customers.

It’s interesting that people act like sex work is the only type of work that you can never 100% willingly do/consent to because of socioeconomic and cultural circumstances. As if damn near every job isn’t done for survival. As if civilian workers put up with low pay and abuse and human rights violations because it’s fun and empowering. Most people don’t work regular civilian jobs just because they can. We’re literally all impacted by patriarchy and capitalism. The majority of us work to afford to live. A lot of us take jobs we don’t want to because we just need a job and don’t want to be homeless, because we have people to take care of. A lot of women deal with sexual harassment and are objectified doing a 9-5. Do y'all think I wanted to work retail and I was doing it just for the fun of it? Like I purposely wanted to be paid shit money and deal with rude absusive customers WILLINGLY? So I really don’t see the difference. A lot of anti sex work arguments can be applied to every day jobs too. I think it’s super transparent and a lot of y'all just hate sex workers because y'all have a white knight complex and a false sense of moral superiority lmao.

so long story short i have been stuck in no-job limbo for a month and a half; on octobre 10th i moved out of my parents' home and in with my current roommate. i have been jobless ever since despite applying to everything i possibly can.
as of today (novembre 18th, 2021) i have had two interviews that i havent heard back from, one job opportunity that said they would call me two days ago to start my training shift and then ignored me when i called them again asking when i should come in, and one job interview tomorrow, novembre the 19th, for a position that is only part time. my current goal is a BARE MINIMUM of $652.50 CAD, as i have to pay 500 for bills, 45 for wifi and 40 for power, and 52.50 for my phone bill (which i also need to be able to respond to possible phone calls surrounding employment. i will also need money for food and groceries.
i dont know what to do anymore other than ask for help, and i am getting very scared and desperate. i will sell t!t pics for $20 (18+ only please i am fucking begging you), i do carrd commissions for $3 flat rate, and i will do writing commissions for $1 for every 200 words (50 cents every 100 words). please, if you could consider being generous this native american heritage month, or if you could take me up on one of my services, i would seriously appreciate it.

Hey folks, I’m in a bad way, health-wise and financially.
If you follow my main blog, you may have seen me vent about the fact that for the past month, I’ve had increasingly extreme symptoms of an autoimmune disease I’ve developed, the worst of which is horribly severe fatigue. (While my nurse practitioner has a very good idea what it is I’m specifically dealing with, I can’t say for 100% certain because I’m still undergoing tests to confirm this.)
Because of this, I’ve been put on reduced shifts at work until this gets under control. If I wasn’t working at all, I could go through EI, but because I am still working, just short shifts, I can’t. Because the entire system is bullshit.
My paycheck today was almost half of what it normally is, and the next two paychecks will be as well. I don’t even have enough to pay our power bill right now, which is due next week.
If anyone is able to help me out, I’d be incredibly grateful.
