What have I done..?

So here’s the story.. I got this squirrel and planned to put a weasel skull on it (hence why it has no head) I planned to clean the skeleton with peroxide but did some different things before hand and then forgot about it for a while… And, well, this is what I got.

Holy shit, I want to know the steps you took for this to happen because that’s oddly beautiful.

Its actually pretty easy, you soak in ammonia first. Usually the hair falls out and its kinda whitish clear color. At that point you put it in peroxide. This one I forgot about until all the peroxide evaporated out but you should be able to take it out pose it or whatever once its gotten to this point.

Vultures, whats the method you use for small bones?

I've gotten out of practice and it shows. I tired to clean some baby (like 8inchs long) opossum skeleton with peroxide but something went wrong. Maybe it was too much meat left but I kept changing the peroxide daily because it would stop bubbling after a while and the skeletons basically macerated and fell apart. I tried to save what I could to piece back together but its probably not gonna happen. I need some methods for smaller animals so I don't ruin my skeletons in the future.

Black coyote?? Found this guy on the side of the road today. From a distance I thought this was a fox but when I realized it was bigger I thought it may have been a dog. The build and shape of the head makes me think coyote. It definitely doesn't look like any domestic dog I've ever seen. Skull in one of the pictures is a coyote for comparison.

Finally working on something again!

I've had this fat guinea pig in my freezer for almost a year now. Last time I ordered frozen feeder rats for my snake I was tempted to see what else they had to offer and I ended up getting a guinea pig for me. Upon cutting her open I discovered she wasn't just fat.. She was pregnant. I got three little guinea pig fetus that I'm going to preserve in a jar and now I'm working on macerating the momma's skull.

Alligators can sense when water is going to freeze so they’ll stick their noses up above the waterline and just freeze like that, going into a state similar to hibernation. Then the water thaws and they go about their business with no apparent injury. The same group of gators have made the news for doing this for the second year in a row. Gators are just like that.
