his presence was heavy, yet not oppressive. he had taken the seat cautiously, this time against a window that held a decent view. he felt tempted to talk to the other, yet he was almost frightened-- weary.
he didn’t do well around new people.
he jolted when the other spoke once more, sighing to himself. he was incredibly jumpy today, his nerves on end. it was understandable, but it didn’t change how much he liked such a fact about himself.
“y-yeah. i haven’t been to a boarding school, so i have no idea what’s expected of me.
have you been here long? i’m really only used to the city ah--”
he quickly cut himself off, frowning.
“i’m sorry. i tend to… ramble when i’m nervous.”
his voice had steadily grown quieter as he spoke, until he nearly spoke at a whisper. his eyes were downcast, clear blue eyes gazing at books without truly seeing them. he stared at something only he could see, at sheer space. he was broken out of his rather sad reverie when the door to the classroom opened quite loudly, a middle aged man walking in.
“good morning, students. we have a new student today… mr. shion?”
kaito’s cheeks flushed as he stood up, making his way to the front of the class with clammy hands. he hated writing his name on the board-- he’d rather remain nameless.
“hello… my name is kaito shion, i’m from the city. please treat me nicely.”
as he walked back to his desk, the teacher started speaking once more. he imagined how it would be to do the same for each of his classes, yet another heavy sigh escaping him as he realized that he still had many more to go. maybe they’d forget that he was new-- maybe he’d be okay.
sitting down, he realized that he didn’t hear the page that they were supposed to start on. he nervously turned to the boy next to him, his voice quiet as to not disturb the class.
“which page are we supposed to look at?”
