She sighed, expression exasperated. The reality was more or less as Lilyann supposed, not that Mayla knew it. “It can be a little… frivolous, yes. I expected I would be doing bigger, more helpful things, but sometimes…” She lowered her voice. “…I feel as if I’m little more than a glorified court jester.”
She snorted, because it was a choice of laughing or being horrified, and Mayla would rather laugh. “Indeed. I’ve never done it around him, don’t worry.”
“Glad to hear it,” Lilyann replied.
With a sigh, she patted her bag. “I should go see these families.” Though she made no move to do so.
“Do you ever watch the fights?” Her lip curled slightly. “I’ve been to a few. I don’t mind the ones where it’s simply a people dueling and the two wind up walking away with nothing more than a few bumps and bruises. But the executions are... harder.”
She chewed her bottom lip a moment before adding, “The Scourge can be terrifying, but... he doesn’t seem to enjoy it. It seems like this new executioner, the ‘Silver Reaper,’ has taken some of the burden off the Scourge. I’m almost glad.” Lilyann always worried for Muriel; she wondered if anyone other than her and Asra knew just how much he hated being in the Colosseum.

Genevyve snorted. “I’m sure there’s some cosmic lesson in fighting a bird when your last name is ‘Hawke,’” she replied. “Something about fighting ‘that which lies within oneself’ or some bullshit like that. Maybe it’d be enlightening.”
//Regarding my earlier post: it wasn't directed at anyone who I've spoken with, even if communication dropped because you got busy or didn't have the energy to plot at the moment or anything like that! I understand that it happens! It was more about feeling blatantly ignored in general. And it was just a rant, and I felt better after getting it out of my system.
