Kill Your Darlings (2013), dir. John Krokidas
Sugar, We're Goin' Down
When Gavin and Kurt are finally able to get out of von Stross’s medbay with everyone stable, Kurt is just barely limping along. He looks too pale, his grip on the Sniper’s shoulder wasn’t nearly tight as usual, and the thinly veiled pain in the Medic’s expression was more than just concerning. Slowly, Kurt leads Gavin into Amelia’s office, and with a few wobbly steps, he plops down on the edge of one of the cots and heaves a huge sigh.
With a whine, Kurt shucks off his boot and pulls the bandages away. The wound has healed into a shiny pink scar, but the flesh is distended around it.
“The… The bullet’s stuck in my leg,” he whispers breathlessly, fearful. “I can’t get it myself, I..”
Gavin kneels before him, laying one hand gently on his knee. Respawn had healed the wounds, but the Sniper’s missing fingers hadn’t grown back. The space where they used to be lies heavier than his hand against the Medic’s leg.
“That’s alright,” Gavin says softly. “I’ll grab the Doc. Hang tight.”
Dreams of Respawn
Catty could barely feel anything when she died in the bed of the truck; by the time they neared Teufort, she had lost too much blood, and couldn't remember anything that happened. It was more like falling asleep than it felt like dying.
She remembered more of that particular Respawn.
Her skin felt like static, pure electricity. Her entire body ached, particularly where she was stabbed. She laid on her back, watching a slowly pulsing void where streaks of comet-like light flew past.
Whatever she was laying on was pleasantly cold; it was the only thing that grounded her in that strange dream.
She could hear someone shouting her name. The noise steadily grew closer and closer.
Gift
Gifts were hard to come by in his adulthood, he realized. Long gone were the days of starry-eyed Christmases and birthday cakes, but he never consciously minded. He found solace in the little things, like the desert rains and the books Amelia shared with him.
He didn't expect the cane. It's was Catty's idea, the BLU Sniper had bashfully muttered, but it had him written all over it. Clouds danced on the body of the cane, the end had a sturdy rubber stop and the handle was padded gently with some sort of foam.
The two Snipers rested in front of him, waiting for his reaction, and all the Medic could do was crack a wide smile and cry.
"Es ist perfekt," he stuttered among the tears.
Enemy >:)
He had conflicted feelings about the war he was in. Every morning when he holstered his pistol and hoisted the Medigun up on his shoulders, a younger version of himself shouted at him in the back of his mind.
"How could you," he screamed, "you DETEST fighting. You hate the word, the implications, the ACT of it! How could you?"
Truth be told, there were better things out there he could be doing. Every evening he saw the job openings at hospitals and pediatrician's offices. But when he stepped onto Hoodoo's territory for the last time, saw the look on Naumann's face, the faces of his former teammates...
He realized what he was fighting for.
Every morning, pistol holstered at the side and Medigun blazing away, he looked to the Administrator's voice with contempt, knowing full well who his real enemy was.

I guess Carlos’ dream journal got a bit poetic and surreal there for a while.

This is no joke, it really happened in my first responder class today
My EMR instructor: You arrive at a scene with a patient laying on the ground. You check their level of alertness and they appear unconscious. You have already opened their airway with an adjunct and are administering oxygen.
What do you do next?
Student: Call 911!
My EMR Instructor: YOU ARE 911.
So Matt.
