MARVEL vs. DC
(You see, the threats from my first post are coming true) Iām not a hardcore comic book reader. I am a movie enthusiast, though. And like many others, I became a comic book movie enthusiast in 2008. The year saw two very different but euqually awesome adaptations: Marvels Iron Man and DCs The Dark Knight. Both are great and depending on the mood I keep coming back to them equally often. From this point on, Marvel did something extraordinary by starting their cinematic universe which I enjoy greatly. There are great entries like The Avengers or Guardians of the Galaxy and more mediocre films like Thor: The Dark World, but the vision and logistic achievement of a interconnected film series is admirable. I get that the jokey whedonesque approach is not for everyone but it certainly keeps me going to the cinema. Now, DC didnāt start its cinematic universe at the same point. They completed their Dark Knight trilogy and tried a new, less realistic approach with Green Lantern. So, officially Man of Steel is the first entry in the DCU...or DCCU?! It had flaws but I didnāt mind the new take on Superman, I didnāt mind the gloomy mood. I get that DC has to set their films apart and I have no problem with that. As I said the jokey approach is not for everyone and as The Dark Knight (Trilogy) showed, there is a place for serious comic book movies. The trailers for Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad look interesting and Iām glad the new Batman is very different than previous interpretations. So, I like Marvel and the MCU, I like the DC characters and hope the DCU will be great but on every trailer, every news article and every remotely related post, there are the people siding with one or the other. Marvel is bland and predictable, DC tries to copy Marvel and is pretending to be high art. It seems impossible to love one without hating the other, let alone love both. There seems to be the hate for mainstream on the one hand (āMCU fans are fake nerdsā) and the desire to become mainstream on the other hand (āI hope Justice League will shatter the Avengers at the box officeā). There also the ones crying āDC is just a copycat by creating a shared universeā and the ones lecturing DC that their approach is not how itās done. It gets worse when the creators or news sites fuel the war. In the case of the creators, itās unprofessional, in case of the news sites itās lazy. Sure, the debate is older than the movies, and much like other cases (Star Trek vs. Star Wars), one is forced to choose, there is no middle ground. Humankinds tendency towards extremism finds a comfy place on the internet. It probably is a way to identify. āIām this, certainly not this!ā I might be in the minority for liking both or at least finding things to like and maybe that is my way to identify: The refusal to choose. But as much as I like having geeky conversations, I more and more stay away from comment sections, because it is (at least in a forum post) impossible to reason with extremists. So my answers for the pressing questions are: MARVEL AND DC Star Trek AND Star Wars Cats AND Dogs Chocolate AND Vanilla I might have tendencies but I donāt let people force me to renounce the other- not even hypothetically.
Any ideas for Batman in this version?
Are you lost?
How did you come here? Who showed you the way? Did you click on something and now you donāt know how to get back? Okay, now that you are here in this tumblr cave of Incognito, why donāt I tell you something about this place. Youāve stumbled in a journal full of half-baked thoughts, rants about nerd culture (as if the internet needs another one of those) and pictures from my mindverse. I do this mostly for myself, getting stuff out of the system. Why post it online if you donāt do it for others, you ask? Iām vain and lazy. I do want other people to see some things but I donāt want to activeley go around show this to people. I purposefully donāt advertize this to my friends. So, let me say now: You are special. You didnāt just read all of this but you came here for whatever reason on whichever way. Iād like to know how you fell into this whole. What were you doing? What were you looking at before? What is youāre story?
