I would pick Dazai's side if I had to get involved. Akutagawa is absolutely more loyal to him than Chuuya, so as him, I would pick Dazai.

Im gonna rant abt Chuuya cuz I love him and he deserves to be struggling with finals and not a mass murderer
Chuuya lived with a loving family until age 5. Since he was little he was a strong willed boy and even beat up another kid for commenting on his parents. Once he as 5 he was kidnapped from home and used for experiments and tortured by N (sorta stupid name if you ask me tbh/hj) anyways he was experimented on and cloned (neat symbolism with the sheep being the first animal being succesfully cloned). He originally had an amplifiying ability and it was later changed into his current ability after having his body used as a vessel for the god arahabaki. Okay so he escaped thanks to Verlaine.
The sheep. Okay I am a giant sheep defender so it might be a bit biased. So The sheep found Chuuya and sorta used him for protection. In this case, I believe it is a kids first instinct to hide from danger so I dont really blame most of the members. Like say Yuan and the other unnamed kids, they're pretty innocent in a sense since they knew no better+ they're all barely 15. Shirase did not seem to know Chuuya had human emotions for like 5 years tho. anyways this all leads back to Dazai. Dazai manipulated the sheep into believing Chuuya betrayed them for the mafia which led to the stabbing and the disbandment.
Stormbringer. Okay so stormbringer follows Chuuya not feeling human and questioning if he's actually a person which is debunked by Dazai's ability working on him. Verlaine has some serious issues and ends up like killing his current family/friends the flags. In this Chuuya activates Arahabaki for the first time and Dazai like does his thing. Anyways this left Chuuya scarred. Since it was his second time losing his friends/family.
Since Chuuya is a much more in a way more emotionally expressive and is much more of a "once it's over let go of it" type of person he forgave Verlaine (which btw he did not deserve, Verlaine deserves to not be forgiven) Now that's happened another friend decides to leave him. Dazai literally disappeared for 4 years which made Chuuya assume he was dead (Wait till I catch u dazai)
This is all in a nutshell btw I have more
Okay this is all to go against Chuuya being a soft, uwu, tsundere boy who can't defend himself. He probably has a higher kill count than Dazai and yes he is much more open to his emotions unlike a lot of other characters but that doesn't make him weak.
EDITTTTT: Im a dum dum and haven't read stormbringer nor 15 in 2 whole years also I read both originally in Japanese so I may have mistranslated since I am a dum dum and failure
