yes this is 100% true, and also, horrifyingly, the only reason anybody does anything
if nothing else I feel like eventually the histrionic nagging is going to win out
people do stupid irrational things because they want to feel better all the time. impulse shopping, drinking, alcoholism, recreational drug use, drug abuse, parties, one night stands, and yes, crucially, passing laws
So your idea of irrational impulses is passing laws through an extremely bureaucratic legislative system rather than say… 250 firearm incidents where four or more people were killed this year in the US by lone gunmen?
One way the US can cut that number down is access to affordable and effective mental health care.
