i just finished chasing shadows and honestly i've come to the conclusion that crowfeather works better when you see him as intentionally manipulative. not evil, but someone who selfishly spins his words to look good.
the way he switches up depending on who he's talking to and who he wants to please would be genuinely interesting if intentional (such as him randomly claiming he wanted to tell tawnypelt about the prophecy first when confronted).
it would certainly explain his string of love interests and how he managed to get the deputy position after everything (namely his very public very fraught relationships with his family).
Bramble during tnp being both just the most Bi-fail cat ever and absolutely going through all the hormones means that he was absolutely crushing on everything during the Journey
At first it was "Feathertail is so smart and also really good at keeping a levelhead and just sk pretty and -hey"
Which was a bit embarrassing but not altogether to surprising so he didn't give it much thought
Then it was "Stormfur is so confident and handsome and his pelt is such a beautiful color and I bet he has such -wait"
Which made him question things a lot more but he didn't have the mental space to process that so he let it go
And one time it was "Holy shit that Windclan brat is annoying. Sure I can respect how assertive he is and even kinda endearing and how pretty his eyes are but -FUCK"
Which is when he concludes that the this journey is losing him his sanity
Requesting more Ashfur Ferncloud swap au RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really want to know what the swapped fire scene would even be.. maybe Fern found out about Leafs kits and was yowling about how if Leaf just TOLD her that she had kits they could have raised them TOGETHER as a family. and Leaf didn't need her sister to take over or get support from that Moth bitch [I think Leaf probably told Moth about her kits 🤷]. she could have had HER. and she could have done SUCH A BETTER JOB.

have you ever felt like a horrible person for liking a fictional character?

I think it's really cute when artists draw characters in their own outfits. So, here's Squilf and Leafpool inspired by two recent fits I've acquired in anticipation of my own ✨HOT GIRL SUMMER✨
& bonus reactions!

it's a little creepy.
it's a little creepy.
The thing is I think Crowfeather can be interesting, if you see his issues less as "my girlfriend died and I'm sad" and more as a deconstruction of traditional hero fellowship coming of age stories. He has his whole arc of being a haughty (as per semi canon materials) child of Important Cats in WindClan learning to work together with cats from other clans and show his soft side, but unlike how most of these stories go he's unable to live in a self-actualized way with his changed perspective because the society he returns to after his journey is still the same biased, insular thing it has always been, refusing to change and learn its own lesson even with all the events of TNP. Unlike how most of these stories go, he can't change the world with his cool new self, because he's still just one cat. He's separated from those who were once familiar to him, unable to share in their historical narrative of suffering starvation and the forest's destruction together when he wasn't there for most of it, and unable to have them share in the bonds he formed and the griefs he himself suffered. And this isolation leads him to self-destruct, alternately trying to get back the feeling of comradeship where the world would match how he now sees it and trying to violently reject it and fit in again, but he can never go back. And then using his feelings of superiority for being more "progressive" as a tool of abuse for his son, who he sees as emblematic of the conservative Clan that doesn't understand (i.e. when they see Tribe cats and Breezepaw is being xenophobic, saying that he just doesn't understand what loyalty means), while being oblivious to how the side of him that tries to disown his past and act "respectable", spouting xenophobic things himself, is a big part of why Breezepaw is the way he is. The execution isn't amazing like most things in Warriors (using too much telling and not showing for Crowpaw's initial more stereotypical arc in the first half of TNP that's supposed to get you attached to him, for example), and it certainly could have been told without killing off Feathertail for his angst, but I do think there's more going on with him than just "sad about girlfriends dying and breaking up with him", and what is going on is a great contrast to stories where the protagonist learning their lesson in tolerance is just able to conveniently change society around them or never have trouble with the friction of returning to the "old life".
