Hey, sorry if this is a weird question but what do you currently think about Johnlock? Thank you.

Im not sure if this relates specifically to the ship in Sherlock BBC or the broader Holmes x Watson ship across media, but yeah sure:

Sherlock BBC: I think the ship is an extremely valid reading; I’ve written some fic for the tag myself. It was fairly obvious that the writers didn’t have it in mind despite so much of their work pointing unconsciously toward what could have been a good relationship between John and Sherlock (if and only if the show was more in line with the pilot and didn’t pick up running with the end of study in pink). I think TJLC movement was good and bad; it had a fair bit of toxic in it but the people who were in good faith about it did some good work about queer readings and queer baiting. (I have a lot of thoughts on TJLC in retrospect 16 years past the show coming out tbh).

Holmes x Watson across all media: I’ve got much more stake in this one as most versions of Holmes and Watson are in line with the books and not an extremely toxic and at times abusive relationship like in the show; written a couple fics for Canon Holmes x Watson as well. When I eventually sit down and write my version of Sherlock Holmes, it will be with Holmes and Watson in a slow burn developing relationship because that’s how I see their world. I don’t think the ship is something I see in every version, but I think everyone who ships Holmes and Watson is valid in every version (though elementary I still struggle to see it but I enjoy Sherlock x Watson fics in that universe).

The ship is good as long as the shipper is respectful to any creators involved and to those of differing opinions. If someone doesn’t see it, that’s okay too. All Holmes is Holmes.

the closest thing to fanfiction I ever wrote as a kid was a short story about the characters of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson existing in a black void and attempting to solve mysteries and engage in intelligent conversation like they are "supposed" to, with the realization slowly dawning on them they they do not have true minds or souls and can do nothing intelligent or novel without it first being written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. presumably, they appear in the void because he has stopped writing or has died. they are immortalized in his writing, but, without him, doomed to forever repeat dialogue from scenes that have already taken place and never to experience anything new again
