So hear me out

I don’t think Grayson is caught up on Emily. I don’t think he ever has been. The only thing he’s been caught up on is the fact that he blames himself for her death.

If he was caught up on Emily, I think we would have seen an entirely different reaction when Avery walks in looking exactly like Emily. He was surprised, it hadn’t ignited anything in him other than pain. 

Grayson had every opportunity to blame Emily for ruining his relationship with Jameson. And he had every opportunity to blame Jameson for letting everything go too far.

But Grayson only blames himself. 

I think him and Jameson have unresolved issues to work out, but he got over Emily long ago.

Okay so this might just be my AveryGrayson heart desperately grabbing on to something insignificant, but hear me out

*SPOILERS FOR THE HAWTHORNE LEGACY* 

Close your eyes. Picture yourself standing on a cliff overlooking the ocean. The wind is whipping in your hair. The sun is setting. You long, body and soul, for one thing. One person. You hear footsteps behind you. You turn. Who’s there?

-So Max asks this question to Avery to help her figure out which of the Hawthorne brothers she should choose; this quote appears multiple times afterwards, and this is what happens in the dream sequence in Chapter 77: 

I was standing at the edge of the ocean. Every time a wave crested and came toward me, I thought that it would swallow me whole. I was ready for it to swallow me whole.

But each time, as the darkness beckoned, I heard a voice: Jameson Winchester Hawthorne.

-And this is where the dream ends; thing to be noted here: Avery doesn’t turn around to see Jameson. She only hears his voice.

-In Chapter 80, the event is mentioned again when Jameson comes to visit Avery after she wakes up: 

“Every day?” I asked, my voice foreign in my throat. I remembered standing at the edge of the ocean. I remembered a voice. Jameson Winchester Hawthorne.

-Again, Avery doesn’t turn around to see who it is. She just hears a voice.

So like, what if there is a scene in the next book where Avery does turn around and see Gray? wiShFuL tHinKing, mAybE, BuT WhAT iF?

I know, this sounds pretty insignificant and lame, BUT JENIEFER LYNN BARNES COULD WRITE IT BETTER, I TELL YA. Okay, I know this is just me, as the pure AveryGrayson I am, trying to think of some way - JUST SOME WAYS - my ship might still have a chance of sailing. Grayson’s character arc has too much angst to not be endgame but this book is making me question all my experience in the art of shipping characters. But *ahem* now that my ramble is over; what are your thoughts?  P.S. I freaking love Jameson with all my heart, but I’m more into shipping MCs with emotionally constipated gray eyed dudes, and of course, the main selling point of the story is the mystery plot, but now that the only mystery is the content of the disc, I’m hella invested in the ship wars and it ain’t a very good thing :’)

What do you think of Alisa?

Let’s talk about the emotionally constipated Lawyer no one talks about. Alisa annoys me at times (especially with her behavior towards Libby; jealousy for a cowboy ain’t a good excuse), yes, BUT LEE LEE IS JUST GOOD AT HER JOB, DUDE. Yes, maybe she has risked Avery’s life on multiple occasions, but the Heiress would be back in Connecticut to know her score in that Physics Test two books ago if it wasn’t for Alisa. She’s one of the most misunderstood characters in the series (which is saying all the very much because Hawthornes exist) and its even more clear after Hawthorne Legacy. Like, we don’t gotta love her, but her character is as complex and well-written with depth as anyone else’s (praise be to Jennifer Lynn Barnes), making Lee Lee acknowledgement long overdue.
