imagine makoto and haru on the couch one night. makoto’s playing a video game, while haru watches – well, was watching, but now he keeps nodding off.
h: i’m falling asleep. are you ready for bed?
m: i’ll be up a little while longer.
h: oh… ok.
m: goodnight.
h: goodnight…
haru gives makoto a quick kiss before heading to their bedroom. even though he’s tired, he’s restless. they’ve been living here together for a month, and haru had gotten used to going to bed with makoto every night.
unable to shake the lonely feeling, he makes a phone call.
m: *laughs* haru, you’re calling me? do you need something?
“you,” haru thinks.
h: just… leave your phone on.
m: you mean with you on the line?
h: yes.
m: won’t the sound keep you awake?
h: no, it’s fine.
m: well, ok but–
h: i’m trying to sleep. stop talking.
m: *laughs* ok.
although haru can only hear silence, it still feels like makoto’s with him. he knows it’s silly, but he finds it comforting.
and then, as he starts to drift off, he hears the bedroom door opening, footsteps getting closer, the bed creaking behind him with makoto’s weight.
makoto reaches over haru and hangs up his phone, setting it on the nightstand before lying down behind him and wrapping an arm around him.
m: are you asleep?
h: *smiles* almost was.
m: sorry.
h: no, i’m glad you’re here.
haru turns over to face makoto and snuggles against him.
h: you’re softer than my phone. warmer, too.
m: *laughs* better for cuddling?
h: mm. you turned off your game?
m: i can play again whenever.
h: sorry…
m: no, i’d rather be here.
blushing, haru moves back a little so he can give makoto a kiss, soft and sweet.
m: i’m happy we can be together every night, in a nice big bed.
h: mm, even though we just sleep in the middle like this anyway.
m: *laughs* that’s true.
h: i’m falling asleep again…
m: then let’s go to sleep, haru-chan.
h: goodnight.
m: goodnight. i love you.
h: i love you.
